She was probably a woman who practiced withcraft and was probably a fortune teller/psychic who worked around that area. And probably the locals were scared of her and when she died she came back with a vengeance. That's just my opinion on who she probably was. I have no idea, but it's a good hypothesis.

The church on Bellmont road has placed a small house on top of the church for the witch to live in. Members say this keeps her happy and she no longer interferes with Sunday church. On one Sunday night service when everyone was leaving the church all of them discovered there tires were flat on the cars. Many times the offering plates would be full of water and need to be dumped before collection could resume.

I wished someone would tell the part two of the story. The Bells moved to Panola county Mississippi leaving the old life behind them, or did they. Not many know about the Bellmont witch outside of Sardis Ms, people who live close to the bellmont church say they can sit out on there porch at night and hear a wagon coming around the twisted road with someone cracking a wip' but it never arrives.

I thought the film An American haunting was lousy. Not following the facts of the case at all. Concluding that John Bell was a pedophile was a stretch to say the lest. I have heard that a film made in 2004, The Bell Witch Haunting, was much more in tune with what really happened. I have never been able to see it. Just watched this movie on cable.. doesnt follow the facts.. it was worth watching on TV but if I had paid for it at the Theater I would be mad! There is no truth to the abuse the father subjected the daughter too.. guess you cant expect true facts from Hollywood. The ending was very hard to understand. I had to back it up and watch it again. I grew-up in Spring Hill in an old mansion where General Van Dorn was murdered by his host when it was discovered the General was having an illict affair with his wife while he was away on medical calls.
