Im a compulsive gambler and have no caring for money what so ever.. I do agree with his points.. but take away the access to gambling and no one will do it. I was in america for 6 weeks.. there was no were to gamble at all... I didnt think about doing it because I knew I had no way to gamble.. as soon as I came back to Australia I started gambling straight away because I had access to it... Gambling is too accessible in australia
@anto5981 PEOPLE WILL STILL DO IT. DO YOU THINK JUST BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING AROUND 2 GAMBLE WITH PEOPLE WON'T DO IT. THEY WILL FIND A WAT WEATHER IT BE SPORTS BETS OR EVEN FLIPPING COINS. THET WILL FIND A WAY
@TheSmoothoperate Except, not as many will gamble if it were illegal. It is clear people will travel 45 minutes, but not 4 hours on a plane to Vegas needing $2,000 to go.
@anto5981 I have to disagree with this. If you are addicted to gambling, you will find a way. I live in the United States and am finally coming to terms with a gambling addiction. Even though the accessibility was not as rampant as when I traveled through Europe, I was able to easily find ways to bet on sports, horses, entertainment props etc. If you want to gamble in the U.S. it's terribly easy to do so.
B.S. it's not about money for some. BUT FOR ME IT's all about money I don't give a flip what anyone says. I HATE wasting time at the poker table, hate thinking about poker. I WILL ALWAYS BE A WINNER AS A HUMAN. if it wasn't the END TIMES and people weren't suffering because of the destruction of America through the economic collapse, THEN WE WOULDN't NEED TO GAMBLE. u IDIOTS, screw being a winner at the card table to FEEL GOOD. WHAT A BUNCH OF B.S. I need a house and stability, not to feel like
@No2BHO If you need gambling you are not a winner. Put your energy into something that will make you a winner. God to school. Learn skills or trades. Start a business. Quit whining about END TIMES nonsense. That's phobic misinterpretation of ancient Bible writings. Forget about it and get a productive life. You get house if you build either directly or indirectly. The only house you build gambling is the houses house. The parlor. Quit now and use your mind for good things.
I am in total agreement with your take on gambling. You are right. I am a gambler facing control issue. Upon reflection, I have unresolved problem with my work, my family and my level of achievement. I have worked very hard with total commitment on a normal job. But the level of income and personal satisfaction are both low. When I compared with my peers, I felt like a loser. Frequently, I go to the casino as I believe I have the secret to beat the system:( Losing more in the end. Great insight
I agree that addictive gamblers want to escape from reality. There is more than one reason gamblers gamble. Particularly, the person who deals with depression, anxiety and stressing out about life. They want to escape and not feel obligated to achieve or the feeling of very low self esteem as mentioned. There is some part of having money or winning money that provides a feeling of achievment but some gamblers are lost and have no direction in life so they try to lose themselves in gambling.
Superb lecture! I am a compulsive gambler, have been in and out of GA at least a half a dozen times or more, and have sadly relapsed yet again. In GA, I have not found the clinical answers I have needed to understand my gambling motive(s), a scenario which I believe has sadly led to relapse. I mean this in all sincerity that I am in awe what you have done here. Thank You!
great stuff... but im a gambler, and i gamble (or i believe i gamble) for money. All my life i havent got money to spend on stuff... never.. but poker/BJ/etc. could make me earn some more money and then i can become rich... now i see that i am WRONG! :) thank you very much doc
@Timx4 That's just it. Why didn't the 22 year old stop at 500? Stop at 200 when they were still ahead?
Why didn't the gambler stop when they had broke even?
Bc 99.9% of players can not walk away "even" after you have been up a substantial amount. If you walk away at even, you havent won. For most players, walking away even is worse than walking away loser bc a gamber will regret not playing "just a little bit longer" bc the big one might've been hit. The money is just fuel for an impulse
@Timx4 If you're referring to the financial problems the 22 year old will face once the gambler goes back into reality. Those problems are a result of the compulsive behavior. Most problem gamblers aren't at a casino to win money. They are there to gamble.
This is probably the most beautiful and inspirational video I've ever seen on gambling, you're 100% right, Thanks. I promise to stop gamblig right now!!!!!!!
thanks your info was helpful to me!

what does "N.D." stand for? In other words, what are his qualifications?

Gambling, for the compulsive gambler, is a powerful escape from 'the present moment' rather than trying to induce a feeling of being a 'winner'!
Are your theories based on your own personal experiences?
