Well, in English, pumping people's bottoms gives a bit different meaning than bumping, which may be more closer to the original meaning...according to the chaste interpretation. Well, the ambiguity might be intentional, also in the Finnish version.
@tasosk3 Mackie to the rescue! This song ( imo ) was a rendition/copy/to its inspiration from "The Bump" a dance which was very popular in the UK around 1974 - if you want to hear it search bay city rollers the bump - when you sing "do the bump, do the bump" you bumped bums!!
Siis mieletöntä... kova meno tolla Koivistolaisten toisella sisaruksella (en muista kumpi se) joka Fredin ja Titta Jokisen kanssa on etualalla. Titta ottaa vähä rauhallisemmin, mut toi Koivistolainen on iha maniassa....
I would like to elaborate. If there ever was a guilty pleasure for me, this is the one, and then some. It's actually a catchy and well-written song. What really sells it, though, is the performance. This is how you give a 100% performance if vocal is not your main selling point. During our NF this year (2010), this clip was shown to demonstrate backing singers who are really into it :D And they (rightly) mentioned the curly-haired woman. I just love her, she looks like she's upstaging everybody.
@setheurovision94 LOL Seth's taste hits rock bottom! You are now officially relegated to Div 2 or Serie B of the Euro-commentators here on YT.
This is the type of song that certain "Euro-Snobs" on YT turn their nose up at - esp when this type of song is often presented by the UK. As opposed to the "classical" Italian entry. Its very 1970s but its just not very well done for thsi type of tune. Maybe you just like big men - chubby chaser :)
@setheurovision94 This is a clip of Pump-Pump. In 1976 I didnt even understand 'camp'. As a 16 yr old in a totally different era I found this a fun, quirky & happy song that I really enjoyed, and still do, end of. I rate all ESC on their own merits, and within a given year rank them against each other. So I see every aspect of this song within the context of life in 1976 & ESC 76. Glad you enjoy it!
Confessing mutual citizenship with these creatures is a burden nearly too heavy to carry. Nearly ashamed to death 30 years ago, and still feeling the pain today!
Thanks for posting this full length version, we saw this clip being in the UK on Channel 4 as part of their '50 worse tv shows' night. This song was picked out as typifying the cheesiness of Eurovision, but I say it shows it at its best!!! Others have mentioned the grinning pianist and that crazy lady having the time of her life to Freddi's right! They guy in the tank-top/vest looks likes a 1970s teacher/lecturer. Where are they now! Brilliant - Finland should have won!
I can't get enough of this one. Fredi is about 9ft tall, the two backing singers off at the right look like they have no idea what they're doing - not that anyone does - but boy is this a classic.
This has everything a great Eurovision entry should have; a grinning pianist, thigh slapping, thinly veiled references to sex, a male backing singer looking uncomfortable with the choreography, female backing singers giving it their all, a grand fat bloke, and jollity and bouncyness in abundance... an all round classic!
LOL the guy on the piano is hilarious!!! He reminds me of Jack Black for some reason. And the lady to Fredi's left, she's giving it all she's got!!! This is an absolute gem!
näyttää uskomattoman ääliöltä toi lihava ja toi kikkarapää on kyllä ihan paras tuolla lopus ku se heittää jo ne silmäsä melkein ympäri ja vatkaa itteään...
its so wonderfully awfull, lol, they are so cute, the most uneven dance i ever saw ,everyone for himself, damn thats funny, i remember seeing it at the time, was funny then and still is ,a classic! douz point from israel :-)
I flipping love this. You couldn't paridy Eurovision better than this song does. It is hilarious and joyful in every way. From the mental smile of the pianist through to the drug-crazed dancing of the girls in pink, to the hilarious backing singers clothing and Fredi's pumping!
As you say deanrearthings - you couldnt parody it better, the guy on the right looks like its Harry Enfield taking the piss.
Wasnt Eurovsion great fun before synthesisers and Stock Aitken & Waterman came along? (and Eastern Europe for that matter - tho we cant really blame them for having no sense of humour can we?)

I don't get it. Why the fuck were those other europeans always so much better than us? Perhaps they needed to be. We never played a part in the Eastern Pact, maybe that's the reason everybody hated Finland all along. Here, we DID sing in English, just as Lordi did. But nevertheless, we didn't score any points? We were too much.. Fun? Too fucking close to USSR? Fuck, just tell me. You are the motherfucking shitheading people trying to tell us, just go ahead and tell us. 1976. What was the point?
The worst thing about this otherwise so-so middle-road eurovision-trash is the fact that the others besides Fredi can´t really sing. Fredi should had aimed his contemporary hit and a stunning love song "Avaa sydämesi mulle" ("Open your heart to me") to these watched-by-a-hundred-million-festivals.
Yep, forget "Mata Hari"; this is the king of campiness in '76. It's an odd song, because if you cut out the chorus the song might get a much more serious tone to it. But then the 'has-to-be-heard-to-be-believed' chorus kicks in...

Tämä on varmaan suomen parhain euroviisu historian laulu.
Suomea aliarvioidaan liikaa, johtunee varmaan rajanaapureiden väheisyydestä tjs.

@setheurovision94 Oh I dont know...how about the absolutely dreadful UK 2007 entry "Flying The Flag" ........camp & dreadful........not even funny!
MrEurocat 1 year ago
@MrEurocat As usual, I fail spectacularly in getting my point across:
Scooch - dreadful and not funny.
Fredi & Friends: camp AND catchy and funny
Hence, "Pump Pump" is an example of Eurovision camp being for the better.

Yep, forget "Mata Hari"; this is the king of campiness in '76. It's an odd song, because if you cut out the chorus the song might get a much more serious tone to it. But then the 'has-to-be-heard-to-be-believed' chorus kicks in...
