i dont get viacom, we aren't making money form their shit whats the problem. hell we all know they dont care about the consumer(except of course whats in our pockets)
It's a shame that the responses were deleted. I actually followed the link and it went to the official Viacom corporate website. It could have been hijacked though.
There are also some comments by a copyright lawyer. If you can find them that exchange is interesting,
You're right-all of the Viacom comments have been deleted. Maybe they realised I made a good argument. One comment refered to whether I would like it if they came over to my house and changed my furnuture around. WTF?? How does that even apply to the discussion?? They also asked me to be relevent and not "sensationalist". I guess the Naked Girls satire was over their heads!
Hey, could you tell me what Viacom responded? For some reason, their response is unreadable, even when I change the comment options to be able to read th downvoted ones.
The Andy Warhol soup can example is a flawed analogy. The can and label are trademarked, NOT copyrighted. The labels are a trademark used to sell the product, not the product itself. If Warhol was making soup and using the label it would be a problem. Another way to look at this is, if I was in a grocery store, and I took a picture of a family member, and there happened to be can of soup in the background, I could still post the picture on the internet.
all artists should have their own way of distributing music and selling it they shouldn't give in to big companies and should use the internet and other forms of public and non-profit organizations to promote their music thats the only way to kiss copyright laws goodbye.
viacom is nothing but losers anyways. they bought out the judges with money to get the judgment. just like any other person can do in the justice system if they had the money to do it. great way to get more ppl to hate viacom though. i mean with the bullshit lawsuit it'll just get more and more ppl against them.
In this case there is no way that a boycott is going to be successful. Viacom has it's finger in too many projects. The best way is to raise public awareness through forums such as this; but also letters to newspapers, internet blogs and postings, and street corner soap boxes. Well, maybe not that. My statements, and the comments they have generated, contain the logical arguments to present against what Viacom is trying to do. The world has changed, and Viacom does not own it-we do.
The fact is that we are not showing entire programs on YouTube. There are other sites for that, (Hulu, veoh come to mind). We are either complimenting the programs, or making a parody. Mad Magazine settled the parody issue years ago. It would be interesting to suddenly flood YouTube with thousands of Viacommie videos. So there- wait a minute, someone's knocking on the door...
I have made a video responding to the comment from ViacomCorp, (see above) enumerating some VERY logical points, including the REAL reason why Viacommie is so concerned about rights, and wrongs! There's also a view of my living room! Blame the lazy dog for the mess!!!
Good points, and thanx for your input. I am also a writer and would be upset if anyone else made money by stealing my work. But my main point is valid- no one is stealing these works for profit, they want to share them to excite other people about these works. EMI recently cracked the door by making a portion of its recordings available for free sharing. No, I don't have all the answers, I'm just trying to open the door to dialogue-like this.

Try coming up with some logical points next time, instead of sensationalist generalities. It doesn't matter if it's "good" for us to let our clips be seen on Youtube. What matters is that only we have the right to use the clips. If someone barged into your home and started changing your furniture around and messing with your property, claiming it was good for you, would you let them go ahead and do it?
I know you Viacom guys have respect for your copyright, which is good, but come on - these YouTubers are only SHARING WHAT THEY LOVE with the rest of us, enticing them to watch for them on TV if they can!
if there was no public.. where the fuck would you broadcast your clips and shit. who would view it? NOBODY. ou publicly broadcast the clips, meaning we, THE PUBLIC have the right to use them and you cant be an indian giver and just say no you cant use it because you dont. its already publicly posted.
Viacom, taking of all the copyright videos on youtube is on thing but when you have all my privet information that crosses the fucking line isn't that a violation of privicy if i have perverted thing's on my hard drive that is for me to know and only me. Way to shit all over my privacy.
I love the fact that you the people who are trying to destroy Youtube are using it. Threatening that you will come to someone's house period. Is not okay. I though people who love to sue would know that. Its nice to see that you would be willing to pull in a child who just wanted to post something funny they saw into court. You know what its a little called Karma. So go ahead and try and destroy Youtube. When karma comes and kills Viacom. I'll try not to smile so much.
Lets see I pity Viacom if they are really doing that bad that they have to try and sue youtube for supposedly taking your videos. And then you have the nerve to invade OUR privacy and claim our lives. SO basically you OWN us. Let me tell you something Viacom. Do you really think your going to gain anything by pissing off a pretty huge chunk of the population. Some who are currently your viewers.
Viacom get this - Do not view people's videos without theyr permision because some people might sue you!If you view me I'm gonna sue you 1 million dolars per minute because you view my vids and your not allowed!Thats all I have to say to you!
ya know what viacom you can fuck you, your company, your videos,ALL YOUR SHIT!you my friend and your dick headed company are just looking for a fucking excuse to bring people to court and get all the fucking money you want from a person who just posted a vid from viacom they liked and you fucking deleat the vid and take his ass to court like the greedy corporate basterds you are!I think i speak for myself and all the majority of youtube when i say GO FUCK YOUR GREEDY SELVES
@ViacomCorp Hey. Fuck you. Come try to move my furniture around and see what happens, bunch of white-collar bitch-niggas. I'll copy "your" property as much as I please, and you faggots aren't going to do shit about it.
Actually, in my 'Response to Viacom' video, you can see my living room, (notice the lazy dog). However, it is in response to something Viacom, (yes, they actually responded to this video) mentioned. Read the complete response below. Okay, not the most recent, the one before that. (geez, Viacommie, how stupid can you get!!)?
That's funny Viacom...you're bitching about copyright infringement, but what about...let's see, Christopher Knight's copyrighted material that VH1 used on Web Junk 2.0? I'm sure you're all fully aware of that MAJOR hypocrisy. Especially since you used his non-profit work for your for-profit bullshit.
On a side note, it is EXTREMELY funny that you're using the very website you're suing. Ironic, much?
yes but what your doing is biteing the hand that feeds you WE are your customers, if your just gonna piss on us you'll lose them, and you can never be completely sure what you click on if its copyrighted or not so thats not fair to rummage through our history. dont get me wrong im fine with your copyrighted videos being taken down but you just crossed the line. i mean its just rude. Now are those logical points you bastards??????

There are seven words in every Gideon's Bible - y'know, the one they stuff in every hotel room - that can't be found in any other bible. If you repeat those seven words to yourself while grasping the doorknob to your room, the door will open to any hotel room in the world. Of course, if you want to control where you're going, you'll need to know the Gideon's Key - one more inserted word, unique to each copy, which acts as an index for each room.
You are probably one of the worst corporations currently floating around in the vast money pool that is the capitalist world right now, and that's not just my opinion but pretty much everyone's opinion. You have no respect for this video obviously, and you disregard reason and facts. Also, your metaphor is utter bs. Why? Because I don't keep my house open to random people in the public to "mess around with", while your clips are available for the public.
hey Viacom If your reading this than here are some things and suggestions:Go jump of a clif, kiss my ass, fuck you and I hope your company gets sued!Common go over my house you bastards!Like something is gonna happen!Fags!
@ViacomCorp I understand copyright laws, and im not trying to cause trouble, but, what everyone is saying is right. If it weren't for us, who would buy/watch your shows/products? No one, that's who. And i have an example.NOT MADE UP I saw a clip of South Park ( im almost positive the Viacom owns that.) here on youtube, and i thought it looked nice and watched the show. Now im totally hooked! It's pretty much free advertising! im not trying to cause trouble, im just stating MY opinion on this.
you rock...most of the stuff people post here are old commericals and tv clips that haven't been in rotation for DECADES, yet suddenly they don't want us to see them? Why?
The destruction of Civil Rights is a continuation of the draconian poicies of the corporate right wing, and will continue as long as they remain in power.
I agree completely! This was the first video I ever posted, and the idea was to make a point! Check out my other video, it's not perfect either, but I think it's better. Thanx for your input.
The star wars-style text is inexplicably slow and tedious, the points expressed could have been better placed in a paragraph, and the lack of music or sound makes an otherwise forgettable clip unbearable. lymfocyte is wrong There is no good reason for this to be silent.
MANY things could have been done to make this tolerable; adding public domain music (even record ambient noise), using a better format for the text, and cutting it down to, like, 30 seconds.
Boycott is where you don't participate/watch/partake in something that you disagree with. For instance, vegetarians boycott meat, meaning they don't eat it because they disagree with the whole idea of eating animals.
