  • Awesome video Jafro, I just picked up a lil' '89 Colt myself and have started tinkering with it. It's definitely fun to put around in but I can already tell one of my dormant 4G's is going to have to get transplanted in there! It's a shame you don't sell these bud, they look like truly awesome pieces and though I'm pretty good with a wrench I have absolutely no fabricating talent. Take care!

  • When you're done see about a fab video on a new shelf lol

  • Comment removed

  • Great video! That's some skills you have there and such a work of art when the finished product gleamed.

  • Very nice ....... such a great bit of work.

  • O.O it's JafrOEM

  • Your video work is great. I am looking to some colt action!

  • I LMAO when the shelf fell! Too funny. I need to get with you one day and use your air compressor to do a BLT( you know mine sucks). I have a screeching noise coming from somewhere and the turbo shaft doesn't have any play.

  • Hey Jafro

I note your music prefences. Tell me what you thik of this, I think you'll enjoy it.

  • Jafro, are u using a 120V welder? and what kind?

  • @ranacherian Yes, 120V. It's a Miller (Millermatic) 135. Great for home steel work, and supposedly convertible for Aluminum with a spool gun... but I've seen enough foot pedal action to know I want a TIG for that. I'm saving my money for a used Syncrowave 180 and a plasma cutter. Hopefully someday I can do pretty aluminum work in-house.

  • @Jafromobile i am in the market of getting a welder, was leaning towards the Lincoln 140. i am hoping i really dont need 220v like the Lincoln 180

  • @ranacherian You won't need 220v if you're doing stuff like this.

The Hobart 140 got rave reviews from 'tuber weldingtipsandtricks, and it stacks up equally to my Miller. That's an INCREDIBLE channel, btw... If you want to know what different welders do, and how to run a good bead, his instruction can shave years of practice off. Definitely helped me.

  • excellent work

  • Indeed, it's heavy. Probably 20-ish pounds. I figure I'm shaving 900 lbs. of body weight turning a Colt into a GSX, so I can probably afford it... and it's at the lowest point of the frame in the middle of the car so it's not bad for the center of gravity. It's probably about 8 lbs heavier than the stock one and most of that is in the rear mount. The factory crossmember is about 1/16" stamped sheet metal with a 1/8" base, and I used 1/8" tube steel for all of 2 feet of it.

  • Awesome , love the hand made.. but how's the weight added makes it heavy?

  • Amazing as always, can't wait to see how you are going to wire this beast. That to me will be the biggest obstacle for the final touch of this project. But, something tells me that you have that all figured out and you will have a more than thorough plan to do the wiring. Glad to see the Colt back getting some camera time. Can't wait to see this car eat some Honda's...Keep it up Jafro, don't keep us waiting for more Colt love. Can't wait to see more!!!!

  • Love it man, i have been constantly checking your channel for an update on this car, and im amazed to see what you can do, excellent ingenuity, and wish you all the best from Ireland:-)

  • Cool video.

  • Jafro you are an expert awesome video and music! Good luck on the colt!!

  • very nice :D

  • You are expert, nice video !

  • very nice fab work man! it was crazy to watch so fast!

  • Incredible! I can't do it myself, but I sure as hell enjoy watching a Master at work. Thanks!

  • damn you make your own parts cool.

  • anyone else want some APPLEJUICE ?

  • jafro your number one!! keep it up.

  • Welds need some improvment but nothing you cant fix with your grinder. Keep at it bud, looks to me like your welding too cold but i couldnt judge at 1000x the speeed of light haha

  • @rebelsoutherner Yep! On the parts where it attaches to the factory pieces I was being cautious because it's 18 gauge steel getting welded to 1/8". I figured out half-way around that I could direct most of the current to the thicker piece and turn it up without blowing holes in it. The thick stuff, I don't know what's wrong? I went by the chart for the dials and still got a lot of grape-shot. I cranked it up for the bottom piece (long welds) and those turned out a lot better. I'm learning!

  • @Jafromobile Are you running flux core wire or are you running gas?

  • @rebelsoutherner 75/25 Argon/CO2.

  • @rebelsoutherner Should have also said. .023 wire.

  • The Force is strong in this one!

  • Jafro don't know the meaning of "can't!"

  • LOL loved the BSOD inception. Hilarious. Loved every minute of the video. That's one crazy looking cross member but I know you made it to perfection so it's got to be the best way to do it. You are amazing to watch.

  • wow, great video, really enjoyed it, any news about block ?

  • Nice video, i fab everyday at work and i must say u do a great job.

  • BTW - Forgot to say, your shelf collapsing was funny, maybe not for you, but definitely for me...LOL :-)

  • I have to say your an extremely talented feller, not only do you do all this engineering stuff, which believe me isn't as easy as you make it look, but then thats how experts make all thinks look, easy! - You also make excellent video's to show off your skills in the garage.

So on both counts, engineering and video making, I rank you "The Best" I doff my cap sir, well I would if I had one.. ha ha.

    Excellent stuff as always... :-)

  • @Bevoin1970 And would you believe he works more-than-full-time at an unrelated job? Blows my mind how he cranks this stuff out all by himself.

  • @ianwfirestone Me too.. :-)

  • Great video! This is my favorite RojoDelChocolate track btw ;)

  • I can honestly say that I've watched all of your videos, at least twice, and I greatly appreciate you for taking the time to do them. They make wonderful references and guides. I subscribed a while back, and each time I get a new email I rush to see what you uploaded. Keep up the good work.

Have you ever shimmed your pivot ball in your tranny? I'm having disengagement issues, and I've replaced everything short of the tranny. New flywheel, clutch, fork/ball, hydraulics. My pedal is adjusted right

  • VERY nice work! I lol'd at 15:34

  • It looks like it was ment to be there. Its so purdy!!!!

  • Wow.

  • For a half second there, I was expecting to see a Bradford Pear branch coming through the wall. Glad it was just gravity. Nice fab work, but seriously, you need a plasma cutter.

  • @indoorherbivore LOL @ bradford pear! ...and yes. I so desperately need a plasma cutter. If I had one, there wouldn't have been anything like the amount of grinding and filing I had to do. I plan to get there someday, but I think the TIG is going to have to be first!

  • Yes dude this most definatly will help me out alot especialy on the welding area.

  • @DSMeclipsegst I look forward to the videos! ;)

  • You are an artist.

  • @atvmotocross38 And that comment makes you a connoisseur!

    Bravo, my good man!

  • Hot DAYM hot Daym - Nice work

  • YEAH - another vid...... need to finish watching it.

  • holy fuck thats amazing, you should produce more of them for other builders LOL

  • Love the exciting crash from above. Almost like watching one of those snake videos where it snaps at the last second. You are one gifted individual. A few pieces of scrap, some metal glue (welder), and a frame and bam you make something useful. Congrats and I really like this video.

    Robert

  • @robertbaxley Thanks man! I was workin' it with that hammer. You can see it shift before falling because of the shadow, but I didn't really let it slow me down... :D

I've gotta do quite a bit more. I have to put a driveshaft in it. It's heavy! That will be fun!

  • @Jafromobile I thought I noticed the shadow move (rewound the video a few times to watch it fall :) ) but also thought that you may have shot it on two separate days.

Well I hope that you don't let these electronic failures become a norm and before that drive shaft gives you a hard time, shoot me a message.

    Robert

  • His work is amazing!!

  • @Gasser4x4 The fact that people are watching my videos is amazing. LOL! 17.5 minutes is a commitment these days! Thank you!

  • That was some serious fabrication, amazing work combined with a bitchin shelf collapse!

  • @foxdmulder It did that specifically because I didn't skin that wall and replace the workbench. But what it really did is remind me that wall needs to go and get replaced with an equally-sized addition to the garage.

  • Thats great Jafro I have also seen some of the other crossmembers made for this but yours makes working on the car a lot easier.

  • 15:34 WTF lol

  • @Twinturbo120 I've told people before, it's haunted! There's a ghost of an old muscle car in there. I've had garage door springs break while working in there nowhere near the door, etc...

  • Jafro that has got to be the weirdest roll restrictor i have EVER seen haha.

Sub frame looks great, cant wait to see more updates on this and the GSX.

  • @Doubi19 Try to bend it! ;)

Because I spent the past 2 years collecting parts, I'm actually closer to finishing the Colt. Let's be real... which one would you rather see rolling down the track this summer? :D

  • @Jafromobile I wasnt questioning its strength, only its good looks LOL.

And since you asked..... Both :)

  • @Doubi19 Okay, you got me there. :) Me too! I should have stipulated "if you have to choose". I might be able to pull it off, but right now with what YouTube pays me to do this, I might be able to pay off the new hard drive in a year or two.

Newcomers at the track see the GSX and know it could be fast. By now, all the regulars know what it does. I just can't wait to see the look on people's faces after the Colt makes a pass. I want before-and-afters. 'can't wait!

  • question:

    1. ive got the sedan... will that crossmember u made bolt right up to mine? i believe the front ends are the same for the colt hatch and the mirage sedan.

    2. PRETTY PLEASE WITH CHERRIES ON TOP START MAKING THESE AND SELLING THEM!!! 4G61T.ORG GUYS WOULD EASILY BE IN IT FOR LIKE 10 OF THEM!!

great video though... i look forward to your videos all the time

  • @modicaUSMC -.- just read your write up under the video...... NVM u answered my question lol

  • @modicaUSMC Yes, it is the same! And LOL! I knew someone would ask within minutes of me posting it. Did you find him? It's the way to go if you don't have a welder. I don't know if he's still doing it, but from what I understand, he built a jig. I did not. You have to provide a crossmember, and his is actually more complicated than mine, but slimmer, and I'll bet the farm it's lighter.

I haven't weighed mine yet. It feels like it's around 20 lbs. I spent maybe $30 making it.

  • Great job, looks like you'll have it running just in time for the 2012 SO. Your cpu crashing reminds me of my compaq with win95* before making switch to win XP yet my cpu is still slow lol.

  • @DALE97DSM It is absolutely disgraceful that I've been building DSMs since 1997, and I've never once been to the Shootout. I'm going to have to make an appearance with one or both of these things. Maybe all 3, let's see what spring brings. :o

  • you sir, are the man.

  • Beast mode engaged!

  • I really need to learn how to weld.

  • @Twinturbo120 It's not so much like learning. It's more like accidentally doing it right. At least until you've ground through a few hundred welds. The nice thing about metal, is you can remove it, and you can put it back. You can't do that with wood. Cabinetmakers are the real craftsmen. If you passed wood shop, you'll do just fine welding.

  • it looks factory great job

  • man, the amount of welding in this one hurt my eyes -.-

  • @kevinxcal1 You're never supposed to look directly at the welder. You mean you were watching?

  • Love the work. You are a fantastic fabricator. I want to get into doing this type of stuff down the road. For me though.

  • @rebel4055 My best advice is buy a used Miilermatic 137/175 or a Hobart 140 MIG welder, and an angle grinder. Once you own a Arg/CO2 bottle (you buy a vendor's bottle and it costs like $28 to fill one my size which lasts 4-6 hours of trigger use), a spool of wire and an angle grinder... then the ferrous world is your oyster. Perfect setup for learning. You can do anything steel from 22 gauge sheet metal to 1/4 plate with it. You can convert it for aluminum, but MIG + Aluminum = a bit messy.

  • WOW that turned out really nice. Looks like a factory piece now that it is painted. And from just watching the video i could tell that it took a lot of time to design and build. I like the fact that now it looks like a easy piece to remove when working on the car. Great work. And please keep on making this detailed videos.

  • lol blue screen of death

  • nice
