  • My dog was covered in Mast cell tumors. They were all over his chest, stomach and a huge tumor under his anus. He was long haired (sheltie), and it was not discovered until he was inoperable. The vet suggested steroid treatment, but he was having such trouble breathing, with constant panting and obvious discomfort. He was almost 11. I had him put down. I couldn't stand to see him suffer. I always question whether I did the right thing..I miss him so much.

  • I have tried 20 mg of Prednisone and got him fat and restless only. Benadryl currently with best results. Never heard of the Pepcid, why does it work?

He seizured last night really bad and ended up peeing on the seat of my new chair and hurting his leg. We weren't home poor guy. Chair is cleaned and him and his brother got a middle of the night grooming and bath.

He is doing fine today and hopefully won't have another for a month.

  • What medications have you tried? My dog also has MCTs but not to the extent that your dog does. His are under control with a regimen of prednisone, benadryl and pepcid. I hope your dog continues to do well. It is hard to see them sick :(

  • my dog may have this its not like i have enuf to worry about already my bff is moveing away and now my dog i cant handle it all i started cutting......

  • PLEASE PUT THAT DOG OUT OF ITS MISERY

  • PD is inoperable. He has so many large tumors that he would have to have half of his back removed for clean margins. He also has them in his armpit, several on his chest and I usually find more every 3 months. Drugs were tried with no success except PD's misery.

His 9th birthday is 1/27/11. He outlived his mother's age and his litter mates.

  • See Canine Mast Cell Tumor Part 2 for the rest of the 18 minute seizure.

  • Mast Cell Tumors are a cancer that grows usually in the lymph system and produces histamines that causes seizures.

PD, who is 1/4 German Shepherd, 1/4 Chow Chow and 1/2 Wolf, has been having them since the summer of 2008. As of today, 1/24/11, he is doing well with occasional seizures. He just went to the vet and the vet said he is a walking miracle because he shouldn't be alive. He has the largest tumors the vet ever seen and he should have died a year ago already. Too happy to die.

  • what kind of dog is he?

  • what is mast cell tumors?
