Training level in the British army/marines has always been high ever since it was created in the 17th century (even though officers were often shit). I would not denegrate the best of the US army/marines at all and I know many Brits (and Germans) who have envied there levels of supply which is often the critical difference regardless of training. The other ingredient is cameraderie which, being a professional army, British troops have in abundance. BTW MacDonalds put too much salt on their fries

It is a flat out fact Spetsnaz get better training, if the training would even be suggested in Britain or America it would be shot down on the grounds of being to in-human.
@BlackupKnight Already, I live in the country. Spetsnaz is short for [Voiska] Spetsial'nogo Naznacheniya which means "Forces of special designation". Consider this as Special Forces.

You can, for example, mention Alpha or Vimpel squads (anti-terrorism forces) or VDV (Russian airborne forces, equals to SAS). Do you see my point? It's not a problem, just a common mistake.

@BlackupKnight Depends on branch of army. Spetsnaz of Marine Corps (Russia has marine corps, but their role in the Army is not as big as US marine corps in the US) gets the similar training.
So yeah, all of them gets basic part of training and the specific ones (while VDV are clearly military force and supposed to fight the other countries, Alpha and Vimpil are more like police force, they're aimed at terrorists - imagine SWAT which often takes part in military operations against terrorists).
@nuttex That's where I got mixed up I was thinking Spetsnaz was a SpecOps force, when it really is the ENTIRE Russian Military SpecOps. But still, they get amazing training.

All this animosity between armchair commandos either side of the pond...sad...I am a Brit and incredibly proud of our armed forces which have such a strong and long history, and are today under incredible pressure. They are the best, soldier for soldier, in the world at what they do. We have a small but incredibly capable armed forces (I hope it lasts despite looming cuts to budget and procurement). Of course the US has the numbers and the technology. Thankfully we are allies...

You can, for example, mention Alpha or Vimpel squads (anti-terrorism forces) or VDV (Russian airborne forces, equals to SAS). Do you see my point? It's not a problem, just a common mistake.

@BlackupKnight Depends on branch of army. Spetsnaz of Marine Corps (Russia has marine corps, but their role in the Army is not as big as US marine corps in the US) gets the similar training.
So yeah, all of them gets basic part of training and the specific ones (while VDV are clearly military force and supposed to fight the other countries, Alpha and Vimpil are more like police force, they're aimed at terrorists - imagine SWAT which often takes part in military operations against terrorists).
