I used to be a Democrat but now I'm an independent because of Barack Obama he is putting in executive orders that makes him a dictator. And on the Republican side, if it wasn't for the Democratic Party and the trade unions Herman Cane would be in Alabama picking cotton so I'm going to to stay home in 2012 elections I am 68 years old and the first election I will miss in my life. If that's all the United States has to offer for president we might as well drop a nuclear bomb on ourselves.
If China and America have a trade war china will lose badly. China only buys agricultural products and things it cannot manufacture it's self. China has incredibly high food inflation and rely on imported food. a Huge percent of Chinese house holds budget is spent on food. America has little to lose from a trade war and much to gain. America will gain production jobs as well as other developing countries which actually buy American products.
9-9-9=27%, 9% Income tax (your labor being taxed), 9% sales tax (the consumer pays this for businesses and themselves so for the regular person this turns into more like 18%), 9% corporate tax (read sales tax) so in this plan the consumer shoulders the entire 27% paying the way for everyone else. There is no such thing as a FAIR TAX, only through the threat force can the government compel you to pay taxes. The only FAIR TAX is NO TAX, taxes are not patriotic, they are chains for slavery.
China is a currency manipulator, true, but so is the U.S.A. and all countries that have a central bank planned economy, duh the real details will show the truth.
@Ayyadification It's about time I could comment directly to this comment. But, alas, I already have, other than to ask what you like about Johnson & Huntman, two people I know next to nothing about. Thanks for sharing.
@qkcmnt I like Johnson's libertarian principals (although he's nowhere near as consistent as Paul), and I don't really like Huntsman at all. I meant to put Romney as #4 but for some reason I forgot him. So I think a better list would be Paul- Bachman- Johnson- Romney and I really couldn't care less about any of the others, although I'd probably vote for any of them over Obama (lesser of two evils).
@Evenflowist314 China, manipulates it currency causing Chinese goods to be cheaper and American exports to be more exspensive. additionally China, Subsidizes its export by giving back part of it 17%VAT to exporters. The higher the value added (fully manufacturer products) the higher the rebate. For injection molds and medical equipment the exporter gets 15% back. Most all american bands sold in China are produced in China by joint venture companies half owned by chinese companies.
@Evenflowist314 If China and America have a trade war china will lose badly. China only buys agricultural products and things it cannot manufacture it's self. China has incredibly high food inflation and rely on imported food. a Huge percent of Chinese house holds budget is spent on food. America has little to lose from a trade war and much to gain. @VanillaSnow23 China has about 1 trillion in American bonds. During the Fed banks QE2 program they created 3 trillion dollars out of thin air and bought US government bonds. This decreased the value of all other bond which made China angry. It decreased the value of their holdings and showed them they have no leverage of the USA because if they sell all there bonds in one day The FED reserve bank can create money out of nothing and buy the bonds back as fast as they can sell them.
Respond to this video... The FED reserve bank can print money to by the Bonds China sells. China has 1 trillion of American debt. The FED created 3 trillion in new money during its QE3 program to buy USA bonds. That is 3 Times china current holding. If china sells its debt it does not matter. They have no leverage.
@VanillaSnow23 Google "what is QE2." China Creates currency out of nothing also. That is how it controls it currency exchange rate. China makes new money then buy foreign currency with it. When the USA creates new money China has to print much more money to manage the yuan peg to the dollar. That is why there is such high food inflation. exspecially in China.
@Evenflowist314 I totally agree. And believe me "Evenflowist1314",all of this tough talk on China is just theater. Manufacturing jobs will NEVER come back to this country, because big business doesnt want to deal with our unions and regulations.Thats why all the jobs went overseas.Thats why the borders are wide open.If Big business had their way, they would pay NOTHING for labor.Perry and Santorum are just disingenous or delusional if they think that manufacturing will ever come back here.
@deefamily1 Too late. You sided with the greatest evil in the history of the world. Israel/republican party. Your path to hell is sealed. You are damned and there is nothing you can do about it.
IMO,none of these people on this stage are going to be president in 2012.And I dont think any of them are going to be the presidential nominee for the republican party----maybe the VP spot.
With the exception of Romney, no other candidate has a healthcare plan (which is not to say that his plan is a good one but at least he's trying to offer an alternative). All the candidates say that they will repeal Obamacare but they are not telling us what their plans are. Bush didn't have a plan either and the number of uninsured increased to 50.7 million (according to the US Census Bureau) so just doing nothing only makes the problem worse.
@childofthemarshalsea You need to educate yourself, go read the others stances on the issue. Romneys advisers are the ones who worked with Obama to make Obamacare, it is based off Romneycare from Mass. Romney agrees with Obama on almost all stances, why because they both work for big business. they will both give you the same thing, lies, debt, paying the 1%. Ron Paul has a plan which would remove Obama care, free up doctors from Pharm. companys drug selling and allow doctors to help agian.
@Malzarius85 And what exactly is this plan? I have been to his website several times and I have not found his plan mentioned anywhere. What is Paul's plan to insure the 50 million uninsured Americans. C'mon, educate us on Paul's plan.
@jakeslife79 Newt is 100% correct on every issue. He understands the problems of DC and knows how to get them solved. Obamacare is a disaster and must be thrown in the garbage.
i cant believe the intellectual plagiarism committed by these candidates. All plucking from Ron Paul, and tweaking or marginally changing the current system. All talking points, lack of consistency, and lack of practicality. Ron Paul's really the only one with consistency and that calls it like it is. Both historically and in a sense going forward.
ALMOST ONE HOUR INTO THIS DEBATE AND THEY GAVE RON PAUL WHAT ONE MINUTE OF TALKING TIME WTF FUCK THESE SNAKES IN THE GRASS VOTE RON PAUL 2012 FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
@Hobiz420 probably because he says the same dumb shit over and over again like a broken record lol ...government will never shrink, it has never happaned, it never will & welcome to the 21st century lol
smoke more weed brah, seems like you're not to educated ..otherwise you wouldnt be supporting a lunatic isolationist nutt like ron paul lol. not that you're gonna vote anyway
@RiyazGuerra For real. It's bordering on mania here, and it's worrying me. Ron Paul is not a messiah....he's just a radical libertarian on the fringe of the GOP, and that's why the media doesn't pay attention to him.
Boy Romney is going to do a lot on day one. Executive orders all day long? He is a frickin Joke. Ron Paul knows the only course. All these other guys are posers. Santorum wants us to beat China. What create jobs that pay the scale of China?
Santorum get shut down the by the ass in 2 minutes. This debate is a farce. Romney has spoke for almost 20 minutes to Santorum, Paul and Hunstman's 4 min. WTF! This is Media manipulation at it's finest.
@natrllifter I hate those supercilious moderators who talk down to all of the candidates as if they were talking to children >.< there wasn't one person who they didn't cut off after a few minutes of speaking. This debate was a farce, and it's really clear that Bloomberg wasn't the least bit interested in actually learning anything about the prospective nominees.
Boy Romney is going to do a lot on day one. Executive orders all day long? He is a frickin Joke. Ron Paul knows the only course. All these other guys are posers.
Ahhh the mass media, shaping your opinion rather than allowing you to have your own. Ron Paul is not shown in the media, because he poses a threat to current politicians and the now ever growing strength of our centralized government. Yes he has libertarian views, but what is great about is that "Wow, he actually has stayed consistent with his views over time, rather than flip flopping on issues". It's simple people, voting for Paul and you're voting for honesty... RON PAUL 2012 !!!!!!!!!!!!
Ron Paul looked and sounded like the complete bozo he truly is last night. Herman Cain definitely slapped down Ron Paul when questioned about the FED. Ron Paul knows nothing, he is a conspiracy theorist at best. Voting for Ron Paul is wasting your vote.
@runningchance Cain attempted to slap down Ron Paul but only slapped down himself. He contradicted his previous statements, a sign of a real puppet. This is especially true for Cain since he is an advocate of maintaing the Fed (a former Fed chairman), blaming politicians and the federal government (which are partially to blame for failing to have the foresight to see the danger from corporate interests), when the source of such issues stems from the lobbyists and their corporate employers.
@goldsilverandiamonds Couldn't agree more. Santourm always sounds panicked and lost his last senate race by a big margin. Cain is a good guy but the middle class will pay more taxes with the 999 plan and he has never run for office. I think Gingrich is the smartest and he may be able to over come the personal flawes.
@wideopen9322 How did you come to your conclusion of paying 25% to 32% in income tax down to 9 % as an increase???? Not only that his plan should create many new jobs in the U.S. If Obama can get in with only 2 years, Cain a former rocket scientist in the Navy, highly skilled mathmatician, an entrepreneur, business owner, Fed government official, community leader and writer can do it. Gingrich is good but flawed, personally I would like more options.
@goldsilverandiamonds First off I am totaly for a flat percentage tax. Everyone should pay the same rate of income tax. Cain's plan gives congress another pipeline for for our money. Also, middle and lower income people tend to spend most of their income on necessities so adding another sales tax creates more of a burden. Reducing the payroll tax does not automaticly mean employers will pass that on the employees. I do like his bold thought line. I think VP should be his first national office.
@SHEEPLEwhisperer I wouldn't be apposed to there being an income minimum but 60% of americans not paying an income tax is wrong. And, the left plays the class warfare card as much as they can. Democrats are the party of the rich, Republicans are the party of the people who want to be rich or at least of the people who want to be succseful.
@wide We have tried to get a flat tax pushed it has not go enough support by the people, Congress or any current Presidents. We need a new idea that is simple and easy. As far as new pipelines it will cut more then it creates. It will take a something like 150,000 page tax law and make it one page , it will be our responsiblity to make sure we do not let our government to continue to abuse us. The 999 plan will make ALL citizens responsible to fund OUR government not just 52% of the population.
@goldsilverandiamonds Santorum&Bachmann= Owned by the Christian Right. Both are phonies.Santorum is too hyper, and Bachmann is just scary.I dont want an IRS tax lawyer as president. Cain=Is the republican "Token black man".His "9/9/9" plan is a joke Gingrich= Smart guy,but is a globalist Perry= GWB the sequel. He's 100% pro oil,and will just be more of the same as Bush and Obama Romney=Globalist, looks the most presidential Paul=No charisma, but right on the big issues.
@mrbrianmccarthy You must be a liberal, your real guy is OBAMA and he's killing the country!!!!!! Huntsman not a republican, the liberal left owns him and the liberal Rothchilds fund him. Cain only in the eyes of the racisit left who only see color, he is a token blackman, to the right we see character, he is a smart man with good character ,a real American who loves his country. The left is a party of divisive racisist pigs.
@mrbrianmccarthy Part 1: With your attitude, how can you vote at all? If a president doesn't get any jobs done that he sets out to do, it's little wonder that 75% of us americans sit out the presidential elections. Pobody's nerfect, man. I also would like to know what you mean by globalist. At least Gingrich's scope is wide enough! Why do you think the "9/9/9" plan's a joke? Maybe it would work! Romney's a traitor, selling us into McCain last time. That's why I don't like him. More...
@qkcmnt "9-9-9" is a regressive tax on the poor,as are all flat taxes.Poor people are struggling as it is.If Herman Cains simplistic plan was put into effect, the poor would be hit with a 9% consumption tax,as well as having to pay 9% on their income tax as well. And as many poor people under the current system dont pay income taxes, this is a huge increase. As for the 9% "corporate tax",Herman knows damn well that corporations ALWAYS pass on costs to consumers! This is why."9-9-9" sucks ass.
@mrbrianmccarthy Part 2: Personally I like 6 on the roster, and each one's got their great points (too bad Huckabee said no, too, and that Tim Pawlenty already bowed out), towit: Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain, Michelle Bachmann, Ron Paul, and Rick Perry. Romney really doesn't belong here because he sold his backers in 2008 down the road when he sent his delegates to McCain. I have to wonder why. Did someone give him money to bow out? Is this money why he's so popular today?
Post #4, and final besides addressing comments: The government we need over each of us the most is that of Christ Jesus our Lord. When individuals are governed by the most worthy one of creation, we can guarantee that things will prosper and go better. Sin is a reproach to any people. Obama needs our prayers, but I think he's a one-termer. Any of our field could take him on easily.
Post #3: We shouldn't allow weakling competition to head the direction of economies. Every time we do, the local, regional, national and international economies suffer. Yes, we need to help the poor. There are plenty of folks willing to do this on their own. We don't need federal government to govern the hearts and heads of our people. The smaller governments work best.
Post #2: I think Cain has done well with his political dollars, & is fixin to pull out the stops. He has great advisers, & will make a great president, should we nominate him in our primaries as the top contender. I like Paul & Gingrich's messages, too. They should more likely gain the nod because they've paid the political prices, & have the clout to get some new things done.
Well, thanks for your pity. You need prayer, just like we all do in this country. I have been to great therapists, and my mind is quite sound and healthy, so thanks, but no thanks.
Post #1: Cain, Pawlenty, Santorum, Perry, Paul, Bachmann, Gingrich & all have just as good a chance at winning the GOP nod as all the rest. Too bad the media power says, "Romney's the front runner," & the entire populace heads out for him (her). I have NEVER had such a difficult time in deciding a Republican Presidential nominee in my entire life. I like all those I have just mentioned. Too bad there's only one President. We have a great field.
I think you can see by my last two posts (#3 & #4), that I am NOT joking. Too bad there's only 500 characters allowed in a post. We need logic and reason to rule our country, and Obama's just not got it. Sorry if you believe he does. Everyone has a right 2b wrong.
7:15 is perfect Santorum in a nutshell. Waivers are a wrong idea because liberal states will have the right to continue with liberal policies. Santorum is against states' rights. He wants to establish a mandate on ALL Americans and PREVENT anyone who disagrees with him from doing anything differently.
I wish my fellow Americans knew what it felt like not to be burdened with the fear what a major illness could do to them financially. I've experienced the French system firsthand, believe me America would benefit from "single payer"! Herman Cain sounds a little wacky with his "999", and as he explains it, it doesn't appear to generate revenue. Investing in infrastructure will get Americans back to work, taxes will be paid. Voila! We must also draw down in Afghanistan and soon.
So tired of Herman Cain advertising his 9-9-9 plan like a pizza commercial. Tired of Bachmann talking about nothing but Obamacare. Rick Perry, just no. We do not need to tear apart our beautiful country for dirty energy that will not sustain our levels of consumption. Romney is the epitome of a crooked and slimy politician. I don't agree with everything he says, but I think Ron Paul is the man to get America back on track. He speaks plain and simple truth, upholds traditional American values.
@Joe2000King - I am a true Republican and the time has come for you Paulamites to convert. We let Ron Paul go through the debates and treated him fairly. Now you boys need to repect the GOP leadership and go with the nominee of the party, which will not be the idiot tool Ron Paul. Ron Paul's talk against the FED, Wall St Bailouts, and his silly Liberty stuff is fun to listen to but not a reality. We are about to go into class warfare against Obama's Working Class Weirdos and we need your votes.
Ron Paul is a tool. He says a border fence will be used to keep Americans in, Bin Laden should not have been killed, yeh he's the guy I want in charge of national defense. The guy is supported by 911 truthers and all the other tin hat black helicopter nut jobs. Dr. Dimentoe is a Looney Tune. Paul, Santorum, Huntsman (a RINO), Perry (who's pretty much done) and Bachman (still in it because of her book deal) need to get out so Gingrich can wipe the floor with Romney and Cain.
@wideopen9322 So our armed forces that donate to him more than their commander in chief or all the republican candidates combined are just intolerable Americans that think they have the right to question their govt. He never said Bin Laden shouldn't be killed, he said it shouldn't have been done that way, that is illegally. Have you ever studying why we are attacked? If you understand that then you will understand Paul's position. Is American imperialism is ok with you?
9-9-0 <- Agreed giving the gov't another revenue stream is a dangerous thing, but ditching the current tax code for something like 9-9-9 is a cutting-edge, economy stimulating move in the right direction. The current tax burden, continued move towards a pure service economy, and a disastrous heath care system are destroying America. Something has to give...(Me: $1200/month in health care premiums FOR JUST ME..I'm 50, an effective 45% tax rate...I'm self employed, (15% SS/FICA + 30% Fed).
I dont believe none of these clowns, expected for Ron Paul, and its a damn shame they dont go towards his way with the questions...goes to show they can't handle the real truth from a candidate like paul that speaks the truth, not this ridiculous crap.
I wish my supermarket was "cheating" on me by selling me goods more cheapily :)
This is simply stupid we profit on this "cheating". The people of china are the losing ones and it will take some time before they'll protest their goverment.
Healthcare is already a market. Healthcare in the US is controlled by the insurance companies. So they are actually part of the problem, not the solution.
Not one person has suggested how to lower the unemployment rate other then giving corporations 0 taxes and 0 regulations. Do these people work for these corporations? Thank God for Occupy Wall Street.
@waeawdac No, there is no confusion. Santorum would be better texting nudie pix to his closet homo frat brothers than engaging in any real issues relevant to the future of any nations .
MItt Romney is a joke "we're gonna go after China" lol. China makes the U.S. look like a minnow on EVERY level. This is what makes America AND Republicans a motherfucking joke.
This is embarrassing; it's like a high school debate with everyone just spouting stuff that they memorized which isn't at all relevant to the actual question.
We are already in a war with China...and we are losing...badly! You don't agree then look at the 10s of millions that are newly employed every year, meanwhile our own economy is being hollowed out!
@mrbrianmccarthy I think you are brilliant re: "Romneys pseudo aggresive stance towards them is laughable", but don't let it go to your head. Yes, too, it is pure political theater. @Ayyadification It's about time I could comment directly to this comment. But, alas, I already have, other than to ask what you like about Johnson & Huntman, two people I know next to nothing about. Thanks for sharing.
qkcmnt 3 months ago

Most all american bands sold in China are produced in China by joint venture companies half owned by chinese companies.
williamb293 4 months ago
@Evenflowist314 If China and America have a trade war china will lose badly. China only buys agricultural products and things it cannot manufacture it's self. China has incredibly high food inflation and rely on imported food. a Huge percent of Chinese house holds budget is spent on food. America has little to lose from a trade war and much to gain. America will gain production jobs as well as other developing countries which actually buy American products.
williamb293 4 months ago
@williamb293 China is by far the largest foreign creditor to the U.S. China buys most of U.S. bonds and hold most of it's debate.
VanillaSnow23 4 months ago
@VanillaSnow23 China has about 1 trillion in American bonds. During the Fed banks QE2 program they created 3 trillion dollars out of thin air and bought US government bonds. This decreased the value of all other bond which made China angry. It decreased the value of their holdings and showed them they have no leverage of the USA because if they sell all there bonds in one day The FED reserve bank can create money out of nothing and buy the bonds back as fast as they can sell them.
williamb293 4 months ago
Respond to this video... The FED reserve bank can print money to by the Bonds China sells. China has 1 trillion of American debt. The FED created 3 trillion in new money during its QE3 program to buy USA bonds. That is 3 Times china current holding. If china sells its debt it does not matter. They have no leverage.
williamb293 4 months ago
@williamb293 What a cheat! howd u know this?
VanillaSnow23 4 months ago
@VanillaSnow23 Google "what is QE2." China Creates currency out of nothing also. That is how it controls it currency exchange rate. China makes new money then buy foreign currency with it. When the USA creates new money China has to print much more money to manage the yuan peg to the dollar. That is why there is such high food inflation. exspecially in China.
williamb293 4 months ago
@Evenflowist314 I totally agree. And believe me "Evenflowist1314",all of this tough talk on China is just theater. Manufacturing jobs will NEVER come back to this country, because big business doesnt want to deal with our unions and regulations.Thats why all the jobs went overseas.Thats why the borders are wide open.If Big business had their way, they would pay NOTHING for labor.Perry and Santorum are just disingenous or delusional if they think that manufacturing will ever come back here.

With the exception of Romney, no other candidate has a healthcare plan (which is not to say that his plan is a good one but at least he's trying to offer an alternative). All the candidates say that they will repeal Obamacare but they are not telling us what their plans are. Bush didn't have a plan either and the number of uninsured increased to 50.7 million (according to the US Census Bureau) so just doing nothing only makes the problem worse.
childofthemarshalsea 4 months ago
@childofthemarshalsea You need to educate yourself, go read the others stances on the issue. Romneys advisers are the ones who worked with Obama to make Obamacare, it is based off Romneycare from Mass. Romney agrees with Obama on almost all stances, why because they both work for big business. they will both give you the same thing, lies, debt, paying the 1%. Ron Paul has a plan which would remove Obama care, free up doctors from Pharm. companys drug selling and allow doctors to help agian.

Voting for Ron Paul is wasting your vote.
runningchance 4 months ago
@runningchance Cain attempted to slap down Ron Paul but only slapped down himself. He contradicted his previous statements, a sign of a real puppet. This is especially true for Cain since he is an advocate of maintaing the Fed (a former Fed chairman), blaming politicians and the federal government (which are partially to blame for failing to have the foresight to see the danger from corporate interests), when the source of such issues stems from the lobbyists and their corporate employers.

1. Santourm who?
2.Huntsman back by the Rothchilds and China.
3.Gingrich Very smart leader, innovative, personally flawed.
4.Romney RHINO not conservative enough, milk toast with no backbone!
5.Cain Smart man, great business man, shows great insight and leadership.
6.Perry Pro-Mexico weak on boarders, big government RHINO GWB again.
7.Bachman Smart, but a little harsh and caustic ,needs refining.
8.Ron Paul a social liberal more socially liberal then OBAMA, NUTTY & ODD
goldsilverandiamonds 4 months ago
@goldsilverandiamonds Couldn't agree more. Santourm always sounds panicked and lost his last senate race by a big margin. Cain is a good guy but the middle class will pay more taxes with the 999 plan and he has never run for office. I think Gingrich is the smartest and he may be able to over come the personal flawes.
wideopen9322 4 months ago
@wideopen9322 How did you come to your conclusion of paying 25% to 32% in income tax down to 9 % as an increase???? Not only that his plan should create many new jobs in the U.S. If Obama can get in with only 2 years, Cain a former rocket scientist in the Navy, highly skilled mathmatician, an entrepreneur, business owner, Fed government official, community leader and writer can do it. Gingrich is good but flawed, personally I would like more options.
goldsilverandiamonds 4 months ago
@goldsilverandiamonds First off I am totaly for a flat percentage tax. Everyone should pay the same rate of income tax. Cain's plan gives congress another pipeline for for our money. Also, middle and lower income people tend to spend most of their income on necessities so adding another sales tax creates more of a burden. Reducing the payroll tax does not automaticly mean employers will pass that on the employees. I do like his bold thought line. I think VP should be his first national office.
wideopen9322 4 months ago
@wideopen9322
That's because you're a complete fool who has bought into the Flat Tax bullshit.
How is a Flat Tax fair to the working poor who spend most of their Income in Sales Tax, Gas Tax, and other costs of living?
SHEEPLEwhisperer 4 months ago
@SHEEPLEwhisperer I wouldn't be apposed to there being an income minimum but 60% of americans not paying an income tax is wrong. And, the left plays the class warfare card as much as they can. Democrats are the party of the rich, Republicans are the party of the people who want to be rich or at least of the people who want to be succseful.
wideopen9322 4 months ago
@wide We have tried to get a flat tax pushed it has not go enough support by the people, Congress or any current Presidents. We need a new idea that is simple and easy. As far as new pipelines it will cut more then it creates. It will take a something like 150,000 page tax law and make it one page , it will be our responsiblity to make sure we do not let our government to continue to abuse us. The 999 plan will make ALL citizens responsible to fund OUR government not just 52% of the population.

I also would like to know what you mean by globalist. At least Gingrich's scope is wide enough! Why do you think the "9/9/9" plan's a joke? Maybe it would work! Romney's a traitor, selling us into McCain last time. That's why I don't like him. More...
qkcmnt 3 months ago
@qkcmnt "9-9-9" is a regressive tax on the poor,as are all flat taxes.Poor people are struggling as it is.If Herman Cains simplistic plan was put into effect, the poor would be hit with a 9% consumption tax,as well as having to pay 9% on their income tax as well. And as many poor people under the current system dont pay income taxes, this is a huge increase. As for the 9% "corporate tax",Herman knows damn well that corporations ALWAYS pass on costs to consumers! This is why."9-9-9" sucks ass.
mrbrianmccarthy 3 months ago

Any of our field could take him on easily.
qkcmnt 4 months ago
Post #3: We shouldn't allow weakling competition to head the direction of economies. Every time we do, the local, regional, national and international economies suffer. Yes, we need to help the poor. There are plenty of folks willing to do this on their own. We don't need federal government to govern the hearts and heads of our people. The smaller governments work best.
qkcmnt 4 months ago
Post #2: I think Cain has done well with his political dollars, & is fixin to pull out the stops. He has great advisers, & will make a great president, should we nominate him in our primaries as the top contender. I like Paul & Gingrich's messages, too. They should more likely gain the nod because they've paid the political prices, & have the clout to get some new things done.
