If the King or whoever is doing the RIGHT THING in my country, I shdnt see MILLIONS living in poverty with world-publicised stories of rampant corruption, huge cazy riots and social. unrest. I fucking respect my country's monarchy....Yeeeehawwww.
"If you say that the King cannot be criticised, it suggests that the King is not human, His Majesty said. If someone offers criticisms suggesting that the King is wrong, then I would like to be informed of their opinion. If I am not, that could be problematic. If we hold that the King cannot be criticised or violated, then the King ends up in a difficult situation."
-end-
any thai love and care enough to follow his majesty? apparently none
The LM victims include people like old grandfathers with cancer, union activists, and young students trying to escape poverty by getting an education. In other words, those representing the poorest and weakest in society are the ones being persecuted in the name of the monarchy. This will only incur more hatred and polarization in society. In the end, your desire to ‘enforce’ love for your King, will destroy the very thing you want to preserve.
In any country, when I see MILLIONS living in poverty for generations, and the politicians getting richer by the day, I don't have to respect their govt, monarchy or what the fuck you call it. I am not a Thai and this is my personal opinion, and I'm not asking you to agree.
To EARN that respect, I always see WHAT has been done for generations by the govt.
If you've really done something great for generations, then WHY are there still MILLIONS languishing in squalor?????
@menzerna1234 Uh-huh, going to Europe just because you're disatisfied with the Royal Family, real smart.
I think most people having something against the family don't necessarily hate the King, but maybe not like how his son does things un-royally or the Lese majeste rule.
But I agree with you about the government, two faced people there putting tax money into their pockets and widening the gap between the poor and the rich. As well as the Red/Yellow (or pink now) protesters fighting: pointless
I respect the family for what they've done, especially in terms of charity work. However, this lese majeste law is such a backward rule. I understand that when you THREATEN people, that's going overboard, but merely expressing your dissatisfaction with the royal family and getting put in prison for that? It's embarrassing in the eyes of the outside world. It creates the notion that Thai's (i myself) are paranoid, cant take criticism (even constructive), and will even put people in jail for that
When you're rich and lead a great life, or your business is successful and giving your family a good life, you'll never complain about the govt and monarchy.
It's only the POOR struggling people who're always dissatisfied with the govt.
Democracy and Freedom are NOT for everyone. Look at the mess in the US, where even un-educated scumbags and prisoners have rights.hahaha a....what a fucking mockery.
Look at the American prisons. They're like HEAVEN compared to those in Thailand.
Hahaha...I was told most of the inmates remain as dangerous in there, doing the "business" as usual, and even the American wardens are afraid of them...and these animals have such a nice cell with all the amenities.
Looks like a nice hotel compared to Thailand prisons.
u're in prison to SUFFER and to be punished, not to enjoy your rights.
@menzerna1234 They may have better conditions, but they still suffer from gang wars. A lot of new inmates are pressured to join group or they'll be targeted and mugged. The prisons differ in US, some are designed for dangerous people (high security, confined spaces, more strict) and others are more open for lesser criminals. Thailand however, seem to have prisons that are designed to house every type of criminal. Just because American prisons look like hotels doesnt mean the experience is safer
@menzerna1234 And if prisoners are intended to suffer and not enjoy human rights, then I guess regular beatings, torture, and extrajudicial killings are okay cause, y'know, they aren't human, they deserve no respect or dignity.
It's called Democracy Index researched by Economist Intelligence Unit, google it.
You may have your individual opinions, but I'd rather stick to bottom-line empirical evidence before my eyes here.
Personally, I'm also against the Thai Lese Majeste law, but I don't see a point of being absolutely anti-royalist either! I think this video make quite a good point tho.. gives me another perspective.
See, from the Democracy Index 2010, I can clearly see that your claim was in fact wrong as East Timor is ranked 42, but Thailand comes in as second as number 57, together with Colombia. Another interesting fact is that TH has moved down from rank 54 in 2008 and East Timor has moved up from 47 in 2008. So while others in SEA are improving (e.g. Vietnam which improved the most in ranking), Thailand is sliding in the wrong direction. Not good!
@Tycetto Pardon for the wrong info. I personally classified East Timor as somewhat closer to Oceania, since politically it's not ASEAN member. But my claim aside, East Timor is indeed SE Asian.
Anyway, it's indeed not good to slips down for some places, but still it proves that monarchy and democracy aren't incompatible. The highest up the ranks, tho I'm not claiming Thailand's democracy anywhere near them yet, are all constitutional monarchy countries.
Hi again and thanks for the pardon - fully accepted.
Yes, I know that a monarchy and a democracy can be combined with success; I'm from Denmark, so I know. But Denmark ALSO shows that you don't need unfair laws like Lese Majeste laws to protect a monarchy - we do fine without.
We let our queen speak in the telly every New Year's Eve and she is known for being a very frank woman who calls a spade for a spade. Just as she can criticize the Danes; the Danes can criticize her back!
@Tycetto I'm restating my point again, I'm agree on elimination of the LM law.
But I would not support such a sudden changes. Thailand and Denmark aren't same country, and that many aspects differ. What works there may not work here in the present, but it'll eventually be in the future.
To tell you the truth, Scandinavian countries have been something of an ideal society that I look up to, and hope Thailand can head towards the same way. Thanks for your insights tho!
@Tycetto Moving back to Lese Majeste law, I think it is not as simple as a black-and-white issue. True It's gonna be harmful in the long run, and the evidence is becoming clearer..
But, it's actually irony since this was the very law used to preserve democracy back in the Cold War era. Learn history!
Quote: "But, it's actually irony since this was the very law used to preserve democracy back in the Cold War era. Learn history!"
Which history are you referring to? Thailand or?
Concerning Thai history; I am reading up on it and learning day by day. But I am NOT using sources from most Thai history books, as they are most very misleading and tools for brainwash of students unfortunately.
The LM law is used as a silencer in TH and that is my concern - That's black & white.
@Tycetto@Tycetto That part wasn't in the Thai history books either---I suppose most Thais don't even know it, which I got from US source. The Thai LM law was reinforced substantially during the Cold War since our close neighbors are turning commies and we sided with the US. Before that, it was relatively left unused.
I couldn't agree more on LM becoming the silencer nowadays, but again there're many dimensions to this law, some of which are cultural, social concerns rather than pure justice.
I have been living in Thailand on and off for 6 years, so I am not speaking without reference. I appreciate my Thai friends a lot, but I am struggling with finding something positive about the political climate in TH to say the least.
I really wish that TH could fight its demons and start to move forward. At the moment the land is sliding into a morass of slandering and misuse of the very law we are discussing. That is truly sad!
@Tycetto Another positive side you should see is the fact how Thailand got here in the first place despite relatively undemocratic neighbors. Yes it's still not perfect, but still Thailand deserves credit for getting this far ahead of others in the region.
Thailand does not deserve credit on the account on how the country handles democracy. Remember that there has been 18(!) coups (and attempts) since 1932. That is not a good track record!
Also remember that most Thais like to tell that Thailand was the only country never to have been colonized in the region, so basically the country should have been much further in front of the rest here, if we look at it that way.
@Tycetto Now that's counter-factual arguments and you can't really prove it. There're many too factors determining the progress you wish to see. And much further in which category? I see no clear link between never being colonized and democracy at all.
Again, you're missing that of all those numerous coups, we eventually goes back to (flawed) democratic system every time. I'd say it's relatively much better than having one coup and eternal military junta.
My remark about colonization and democracy; it was purely speculation from my side, but I am quite sure that there could be a correlation there and I have come across Thais who claim that it is a reason for Thailand being in front in the region.
Honestly also I stated it as a bit of a provocation. So no, I can't prove; but I have decided to really try to look into the subject - not only with TH in mind, but on a global scale.
By just reasoning; I don't thing it holds much truth.
@Tycetto But you can't expect use to turbocharged to be FULL DEMOCRACY overnight just by eliminating the Law can you?
It's a wrong comparison you're making here. It's downright stupid to compare one country to another so different in culture, economy, socioeconomic progress, and history.
That's why you have to compare with similar peers rather than others. In fact, this vid makes its very clear that we're still developing and it takes time.
In fact YOU started out doing the comparison and I quote: "Fact: Thailand ranks the most democratic country in South East Asia."
So how come that now I am not allowed to compare and I am stupid in doing so? You didn't set any rules to a comparison before now. I think that when it comes to the Lese Majeste law, we can easily compare TH to DK, because I am ONLY comparing the impact of such a law on people! If you think different then give me a good reason why I can't do that.
@Tycetto Of course I set the rule since that first statement clearly said "in South East Asia," which is obviously intra-region comparison didn't it? And it was the bottom-line measurement rather than single-out on the law issue isn't it? And by responding to that very statement which I didn't direct at you in the first place, YOU technically accept the debate under MY rules didn't you?
OK, granted... you can say that I accepted your rules then.
Anyway then I can do two things; stay under your rules (which I don't think makes sense as I think that we can compare between Denmark and Thailand) or we can discuss this without restrictions. If you give me a good reason for why NOT to compare DK and TH then we can continue - otherwise I think this is to no avail.
Of course I haven't missed that TH got back to flawed democracy after those coups, that's pretty obvious!
You should get your facts straight before you put them on YouTube. Denmark do NOT have Lese Majeste laws, but a law protection all Danes (included the royals of course!) against slander, libel and defamation. The only thing is that should you be sentenced for slandering the royals, then the punishment is harder. But I can walk straight up to the Danish queen and call her "An old cigarette smelling grandma" and there is jack-shit she can do about it, because it's true!
@Tycetto Please! Tell me why anyone should have a need to insult the King or his family's? He has a heart of gold just ask those animals that he adopted, bet ya he would give the shirt off his back. True enough!! I do agree 100% about insulting someone is not a crime however, should you be carrying balls and chains of hatred and jealousy for someone who has good intention for his country? The people who are being punish isn't because of their barking insult. They're violent psychos!
There are many reasons to voice your opinion to all sorts of blue-blooded and "normal" red-blooded people. I am speaking in general terms here, take note. One reason is to allow for a constructive debate. The way the Thai Lese Majeste law is being used to silence opponents does not belong in a democracy.
So you say that the 61 yrs old man, who got 20 years in jail for allegedly sending 4 SMS (with a text not revealed to the public) is a violent psycho? How do you know?
Hi again, no sweat! We all get things said and written which isn't quite true. You are just among the very few ready to admit it, I really respect that, thanks.
As Desmond Tutu said concerning freedom of speech: "We all have the right to stretch out our fist, but this right stops at our fellow beings' nose" Meaning that freedom of speech comes with responsibility, so if you claim something bad about others, then they can drag you to court and you'll have to defend your words there.
I wish that your words about the kingdom being a uniter was true. The fact is that the yellow side of the Thai society is supported by the royals, the elite (The Third Hand) and the military. The opposing side, the reds are the farmers, workers, the police and the richer middle-class people. Of course there are many exceptions; but this is the average way they are grouped. When the time comes for a new king, then there will be huge problems - just wait and see... NOT a uniter, but a divider!
Why?- Thai king ran his country as a business that's why Thai king is the richest among king of the world except King of Saudi, richer than Queen of England and Emperor of Japan, but ppl of England and Japanese are more freedom and richer than Thai ppl. Thai ppl still poor, to do business in Thailand must be partnered w/Royal family member thru their agent. Thai
King himself sided w/yellow shirt that's not suppose to be.
Go & creat your empire somewhere in the world but not Thailand.
If you want to get a good laugh just follow up youtube link from people who try to uncover the fact. It is more fun than watching Hollywood movie because it is real story how can a whole nation be so stupid to follow such a dumb law in this modern day and age.
Well, Thai monarchy was a system coming out of blood. Brothers kill others for the great power even history distortion. The peple suspect the current king (9th king)phumipol killed his own brother who was the 8th King at that time. Nobody ever mention afriad of getting killed. Thai people are so dumb who brain washed since young, generation after generation.
@WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 - You are not right, people in western countries/democracies are not free to voice their opinions at all. i agree that they are more free to do so, but totally free they/we are not.
btw why is the Thai lese majeste rule such an issue for you, if you don't mind me asking?
i really like this...i was adopted from thailand, i am from isaan myself, i think we all should get along despite political issues. Killing each other and disrespecting the king is not cool!!
I love your post and really appreciate from bottom of my heart. I also would like to say for those peoples who call themself Thai but does not love King Bhumibol, you should be count as non Thai peoples who do not understand Thailand and perhaps you are not Thai !.
thailand is one of the best lands to be ^^ forget what haters say. this is one of the rules we all should follow to our best. love the King of Thailand.
Great clips well written. Very impressive, you still didn't speak for 60 millions plus. I didn't mean to be negative but that just the reality of it for right now. The wound is too deep. Politicly, both side going to have to give each other a chance and think of forgiveness. If they (current government) want to reconcile, they don't need to flex their muscle.
The Thai system is far more advanced then the British evolution, what took 600 years in Britain will take 75 years in Thailand. The mafia and those with intentions that are questionable seem to want to destroy the Thai Monarchy and culture, maybe they want it to become more like the lawless Burma or Phillipines under Marcos, so they can steal more from the public.
Most likely I do agreed on this video, but I can 100% say it that we Thai love our King so much and we'd like for you that's not to fuck off sometime cuz you know nothing about us.
as a former muay thai boxer i have boxed in honour of your king both in thailand and accross the world. i hold thailand and your king very close to my heart. what a great vdo thankyou so much. highest respect to his majestey the people of thailand and the sport of muaythai. love and respect from england.
Thank you.... Thank you so much. I am Thai who lives outside the country. Watching your VDO make me feel very connected. Would you be able to leave the scripts and post it ? If you don't mind. I really love your well write up. Especially living in the West, people always ask about this issue. It is a GREAT answers to westerner scholars to back off from us.
Thank you for your kind comment. I didn't write up any script for the words on that video...i just write as i go along making each page...but do feel free to use it.
We love Our King for various reasons, such as, HM King is the Father of Thai Nation, Symbol of Unity, Symbol of Stability, Symbol of Peace, Symbol of Loving Kindness, Symbol of Image and Guardian of Thai People so on...
Thanks for posting this right VDO Clip. We are united now. We will protect our King and Thailand. Long Live Our Beloved King!!!
The Malayan language is in fact realy Indonisianin origin many Southern Thais can speak both and are happy to adopt both Thai and Malay cultures side by side, only fanatics wish to isolate themselfs and divide the country
DDC. U had study from University of , may be in U.S.A. or England, I think so. Why you don't use parliament to discussion many problems here. Thailand is the Land of Smile, most Buddhism wanted Peace, we don't like War.
dosnt mater what ethnic group you are if you are Lao,Malayan,Chinese pure or mixed .....if you value love and respect Thai culture and Royal Institution, then you are Thai
DDC ok you are ethnic Lao but you are also Thai and should love your country not hurt it
@prasanchok I am sure Malayan Thailand right prasanchok and how wonderful of Malaya given there tress province to Thailand, why don't we go and inquire on some Malaysian and see how there opinions are like ? Lao people don't really like Thais, why even put Laos in the picture LOL..... From your buddy Khmerphilosopher. :)
DieDieChakri, believe me Thailand allows more freedom for ethnic minoritys to follow there own religions and culture than many other countrys...so long as respect is shown to wishes of the majority , is this not how democracy works?and as for saying school brainwash children this is not true , they are only educating children to have respect and be useful in society
DieDieChakri , you are very excellence in history and can use English Language in rate of Professional , why you don't use you knoeledge for Thailand. Why you hated Thai King. What do U want?
DieDieChakri ,no way can you compare S'pore with Thailand they both have diferent historys. S'pore is a very young country at first was part of the British Empire now independant , its history is such that it could never have become a Kingdom .Thailand is blessed with a monarchy that we should admire not critisize
This video says so much about what Thais hold close to there hearts, to love the King our father is to be Thai and to cherish what so many other countrys do not have
King Bhumibol The Thai nation thanks you for you devotion
xdisaster95... Your VDO makes me cry... It speaks everything I have in my mind..
Thank you so much. This is the best VDO ever posted on youtube! I'll always stand by your side to protect our beloved father. I'm going to spread this to my friends!
Why even spent time and money to create the video? Everyone knows the Lese Majeste law is barbaric. Stop protecting your King from criticism.

If you think different then give me a good reason why I can't do that.
Tycetto 3 months ago
@Tycetto Of course I set the rule since that first statement clearly said "in South East Asia," which is obviously intra-region comparison didn't it? And it was the bottom-line measurement rather than single-out on the law issue isn't it? And by responding to that very statement which I didn't direct at you in the first place, YOU technically accept the debate under MY rules didn't you?
sundancing 3 months ago
@sundancing
Tycetto 3 months ago
@SomTamKaoNiaow1
Tycetto 3 months ago
@Tycetto Please! Tell me why anyone should have a need to insult the King or his family's? He has a heart of gold just ask those animals that he adopted, bet ya he would give the shirt off his back. True enough!! I do agree 100% about insulting someone is not a crime however, should you be carrying balls and chains of hatred and jealousy for someone who has good intention for his country? The people who are being punish isn't because of their barking insult. They're violent psychos!
sawadee1st 3 months ago
@sawadee1st
Tycetto 3 months ago
@Tycetto My apology! I was not referring to the SMS instances. You're right I don't know!

Quote: "FACT: 99% of people moaning about the Lèse Majesté law in Thailand are non-Thais"
Simply because 99% of the people in Thailand who are able to use their brains are foreigners... Any other question you need answers to?
Tycetto 3 months ago
I wish that your words about the kingdom being a uniter was true. The fact is that the yellow side of the Thai society is supported by the royals, the elite (The Third Hand) and the military. The opposing side, the reds are the farmers, workers, the police and the richer middle-class people. Of course there are many exceptions; but this is the average way they are grouped. When the time comes for a new king, then there will be huge problems - just wait and see... NOT a uniter, but a divider!
Tycetto 3 months ago
Why?- Thai king ran his country as a business that's why Thai king is the richest among king of the world except King of Saudi, richer than Queen of England and Emperor of Japan, but ppl of England and Japanese are more freedom and richer than Thai ppl. Thai ppl still poor, to do business in Thailand must be partnered w/Royal family member thru their agent. Thai
King himself sided w/yellow shirt that's not suppose to be.

If you want to get a good laugh just follow up youtube link from people who try to uncover the fact. It is more fun than watching Hollywood movie because it is real story how can a whole nation be so stupid to follow such a dumb law in this modern day and age.
peterladna59 5 months ago
Well, Thai monarchy was a system coming out of blood. Brothers kill others for the great power even history distortion. The peple suspect the current king (9th king)phumipol killed his own brother who was the 8th King at that time. Nobody ever mention afriad of getting killed. Thai people are so dumb who brain washed since young, generation after generation.

Zaidthavi 1 year ago
The Thai system is far more advanced then the British evolution, what took 600 years in Britain will take 75 years in Thailand. The mafia and those with intentions that are questionable seem to want to destroy the Thai Monarchy and culture, maybe they want it to become more like the lawless Burma or Phillipines under Marcos, so they can steal more from the public.

DieDieChakri, believe me Thailand allows more freedom for ethnic minoritys to follow there own religions and culture than many other countrys...so long as respect is shown to wishes of the majority , is this not how democracy works?and as for saying school brainwash children this is not true , they are only educating children to have respect and be useful in society
prasanchok 2 years ago 6
DieDieChakri , you are very excellence in history and can use English Language in rate of Professional , why you don't use you knoeledge for Thailand. Why you hated Thai King. What do U want?

DieDieChakri ,no way can you compare S'pore with Thailand they both have diferent historys. S'pore is a very young country at first was part of the British Empire now independant , its history is such that it could never have become a Kingdom .Thailand is blessed with a monarchy that we should admire not critisize
