BCD996T Police Scanner

Hi, I have a few questions. First off, where does the volume come out? Can you place the scanner on a desktop without that bracket underneath it? Also, how good is the antenna that it comes with? Would you recommend an external one?

Thats a pretty nice Scanner. Im getting into it and bought a Uniden Bearcat BC95XLT a while back. Wichita Falls went to trunk systems though for the city police and fire which sucks but I can still pick up the EMS and Sherriff's, the hospital etc. Im wondering if one of these scanners would pick up the car to car and police digital radios pretty good. Thanks for posting.

good quality for a scanner those things cost like 300-500 $ right i like the new one where it has the airplane buttons

This works 100% in OZ and NZ  with the Police on P25 Tried it in NSW and QLD last month

are you allowed to listen in to the police over there our police still use the old analog system. but are looking at upgradeing soon ish

It's legal to listen, but not to repeat the contents of the transmissions to anybody else. The BC996T handles digital trunked systems as well as analog.

I love mine! You might want to block look for some other audio without specific identifiers like dob and name. just a suggestion.

THIS ONE comes with a cigarette lighter cable and its SUPERIOR to the 396T portable.I use the antenna it came with and got PLENTY of close call action and my town 20plus miles away clearly.The 996 is a WIN WIN ,you can even mount it in a DIN location (like a car stereo!)

You are lucky, you can stil listen to the police (or firebrigade/ambulance).

Here in the Netherlands not possible anymore, they are using a digital system (C2000).

And IF there is a scanner with can receive that system, it is also coded, so, listen to the police is totaly impossible.

I would download freescan, its free and can import form radioreference.

You can switch between orange ang green with the push of a button.

Its switchable GREEN or Orange or OFF and brightness levels in 2 steps and OFF.You can even mount it UPSIDE DOWN it INVERTS the display.

Very nice, I have the hand held version the 396 and I love it. Have you upgraded the frame ware yet? If you do understand it is a hassle and can take up to 30 minutes. You can get the upgrade from uniden(dot)com

yea i did the new update on the BCD996T & BCD396... it went very well... they really are GREAT scanners! i just ordered a new PSR-600 i will post some videos when i get it!!
