@Baybeeka16 YOU HAITIAN PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO ACCEPT THAT LOUISIANA CREOLES ARE NOT OF ANY HAITIAN DESCENT AT ALL! ALSO HAITIAN DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY EQUAL BLACK. IF ANY HAITIANS DID COME TO LOUISIANA BACK IN THE DAY MANY OF THEM WERE WHITE FRENCHMEN AS WELL AS SPANISH! READ UP ON YOUR HISTORY BEFORE YOU READ UP ON OTHERS!
As long as your ancestors have been here before the U.S. purchased the Louisiana Purchase, you are of Creole descent---black, white, mixed, Native-American. I'm a descendant of the Natchitoches Creoles.
@cconnor2344 Many Louisiana Creole consider themselves Latino, and many speak Spanish...there isn't a look as passing for Hispanic, nearly 40% of Hispanics are black so there is no look for them, Hispanic/Creole are both cultures :) Thanks for commenting!
U BLACK PEOPLE FROM LOUISIANA DO NOT WANT TO ACCEPT THAT MANY OF U ARE OF HAITIAN DESECENT AND U DO NOT EVEN WANNA REGONIZE THE INFLUANCE OF THE HAITIAN CREOLE EVEN IN YR SAYING. U WHEN GUYS CALL A LITE SKINNED "RED", DO U HAVE AN IDEA WHERE IT IS COMING FROM?? IT IS HOW WE CALL LITE SKINNED TOO IN HAITI "WOUJ" WHICH IS A DEFORMATION OF THE FRENCH WORD "ROUGE" ; BOTH MEANS RED! WOW!! HAITI CONTRIBUTED TO SO MANY COUNTRIES TO HELP THEM TO BE FREE N PEOPLE DO NT WANT TO RECOGNIZE THIS
@Baybeeka16 angry much? lol..a lot of "CAPITAL LETTERS" well, I think my "Black People" in Louisiana R educated, Louisiana Creoles are some of the most up to date genealogical based people, I know other than the Jewish community. I think many know if they have Haitian roots or not, I do not...a lot of us don't so, I am sure your youtube comment doesn't change that. We aren't trying 2 B anyone but ourselves, so have roots 2 Haiti, more of us do not, not an opinion, a fact. Look up census records!
i am so glad you're speaking on this topic. my family is Creole from Louisiana & my great-grandmother, who was blue-black in complexion, spoke Creole fluently. i am dark-brown skinned. not all Creoles are light to caramel complexion as many of my family members married other brown to black skinned Creoles. do we have white blood in us? sure we do but our black genes are dominant, i.e. the majority of us are dark-skinned and proud of it. my mom's generation was the 1st to speak English only.
J'ai remarqué qu'ils n'ont peut être pas la même définition du mot créole, chez nous c'est la culture mais chez eux j'ai l'impression qu'il faut être chabin ou métis.
@iamcreole It may just be because your proud to be Creole but I've never seen someone so interested in everything creole and even makes a youtube account named "iamcreole". I didn't really mean overdoing, but more like trying too hard to prove a point.
I grew up in New Orleans I am darker than a paper bag and would not have been allowed in the Autocrat club for the 7th ward Creoles back in the day, however I am a descendent of the first black nun who was a French speaking mixed race creole my maternal grandfather's distant aunt . My grandfather was a dark skinned man with incredibly soft wavy hair that he could grow into a beautiful pony tail. My husband is a dark skinned man with creole roots stemming from Opolousis, La. ( I know that's spe
Love the video my mothers side of the family is Lousiana Creole thats there heritage and who they are. I love my family and we are all beauitful and completly different colors. I LOVE YOUR VID
I learned in Linguistic Anthropology that Creole may refer to a Language, a Culture, as well as a Race, which would often be people of mixed ancestry. So the term is applied to several things. So under another sense, no you are not Creole, as Creole is coming together of three races or more, and this would often denote a lighter skin or caramel complexion.
@allantecathey I am glad you "took a class, and read a book" that is 99.9% not written by Louisiana Creoles, and I am glad you decide who is Creole or not, now I will gather the other 3million Louisiana Creoles so you can tell them if they are or not Creole?....sorry your comment is funny!
@iamcreole It does not matter what "3million" people think. I know the doctrine I have been taught, is based on fact and technicality, not some 'All-Inclusive" welcoming benchmark which invites everyone. I am Creole, it flows threw my veins, and virtually everyone can see it in me and on me.
I am of mix ancestry and I am brown skin so color has nothing to do with mix race your argument would of been stronger if you left that segment out about the caramel complexion because your DNA does not determine always your skin color . I have British middle eastern and native in my genes and you can't tell with me I look black but my cousins and brother and dad look mix race so ... you can;t dismiss people who do not look the part.
@allantecathey Yes, look up the term ethnic group which is defined as a people who identify with each other by culture, religion, or race. Louisiana Creole is an ethnic group and we define ourselves by our CULTURE and our descendants. Furthermore, Creole also meant native to...aka native to Louisiana, but now typically refers to people who have descendants of any race who were in Latin Louisiana before the arrival of Americans. Sorry, but you do not know what you're talking about.
In my mom's country of Haiti and the rest of the French West Indies (Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guyana etc.) where the original French/Creole definition of the term "créole" is used, it describes something or someone native to the French/Creole speaking countries or territories of the Americas. Créole is an ethnicity having to do with one's culture (language, customs etc.) and not definitive of one's race or skin color.
I suppose I am a rarity; I am a "white" blue-eyed Creole from Louisiana. I have a mix of several races: Irish, Hungarian, French, Italian, Chickasaw, African, German...and more.
I have to agree with some of the people here, because a lot of Louisiana Creoles do have Haitian in there blood. Do some of these people read their history ? A lot of Whites fled from Saint Domingue In history which is modern day HAITI. Those whites were mostly of FRENCH descent. So many Whites in Louisiana with a French surname are HAITIAN.
@soymezclado44 to a degree. A lot of the ones fled Saint-Domingue were a mix of French and Black, people should realize that Haiti contributed to Louisiana but does not define it. New Orleans has many Haitian influences and only New Orleans, most of Louisiana does not. When 30k Haitians came in, nearly 200k people lived in Louisiana, so our history is MUCH BIGGER than one influx of people. So, it does not mean their Haitian, and we do not call ourselves Haitian.
Creole is a language and a culture! It isn't base on skin tone! Please be proud that you are an African, where people are from White to the North and Black from the Sub Sahara countries. There are many languages spoken there, including French. By the way in the 50's and 60's we were all consider colour dispite our skin tone. In the South, one drop of Negro blood was the rule of the day back then. You are an African, be proud young man! Stop this sillyness!
First of all I can not believe the ignorance I just read, I just hope you are not grown.
I am Creole first generation California, My Grandmother light Grandfather is brown their children are the rainbow. I have traced my family back to 1647 I know what I'm talking about original Creoles were dark and still are the lights ones began by deliberately trying to wash us out by begin with white men. trying to ignore their African blood. you can't be CREOLE WITH OUT Haitian BLOOD. We are a Rainbw
@dntlkestpdppl@mschaiful is one of very few who believes this way, I was also shocked to see she is grown and believes this way and teaches her kids this. #sadday
@dntlkestpdppl ur a smart one and i am being sarcastic. first off you can be creole without haiti. I guess u guys are the only ones in the world that speaks french. haitians came from haiti and settled in N.O. they were free PEOPLE of color. What makes a creole a creole is the french and the mix. not just the french alone. it thats the case then people from france are anyone that speaks french need 2 be called creole.
@TexadaArmsted wrong, find me one source that says being Creole started in Haiti, my people have been in Louisiana stirring up the pot since the early 1700s and calling it Créole. I think both areas started cooking up Creole together :)
This dude is black i have creole children. he may live a creole lifestyle but he is not a louisiana BLOOD creole. Creole is not just a culture it is a race also. we are talking about louisian creole not creole of color from haiti who came to louisiana
@mschaiful I am uploading a video, directly for you. I am tired of people like you hurting the culture by these "Separatist Ideas". Thank you for inspiriting my next video, "MsChaiful's idea of Creole".
@mschaiful You are right now one will take that from them! What you told me is the same thing, you are trying to take my heritage from me. I just had a discussion earlier about people like you, who are still stuck in a segregated mindset. I have a feeling you do not live in Louisiana, if you come with that attitude in Louisiana, you might see something very new. I do not mean to offend you but it boils my blood, to here comments like yours from those who are to be "my people".
@iamcreole You unfortunately, are doing yourself a disservice and your kids by not knowing ALL of our history. You said we are mixed, because of that, how can you tell me I am not Creole, because I am darker than you? I would never tell you nor anyone that, your history is your history you nor anyone else can take my heritage from me, my ancestors whether darker than yours were not any less important. I will continue to tell the true story of my people: Créole la Lwizyan, mo gens!
@iamcreole I am not trying to take you heritage from you! I don't like the fact that u are making it seem that it is not a race. when i say RACE i am refering to applications and birth certicates. Trust me when I say I am from Louisiana and many creoles that live near N.O. have this attitude. oH and i never said it was because u were darker than ME. I am Black.Creole kids can be many shades I know from experience. Well i have spent to much time on u already. Peace cher
@mschaiful Ms.Chaiful you cannot be serious. If this is the most funniest S.H.I.T ever.
What is LWIZYAN KREYOL blood? The LAST TIME I checked a person can be part of this mixture DEPENDING ON WHICH settlement (s) there people came too (FRENCH, SPANISH, AFRICAN, NATIVE AMERICAN, GERMAN, ITALIAN, & SCOT-IRISH, CZECH, ASIAN, & some other I cant even name).
The HAITIAN COMMENT is soooo WTF, I cant even go there with you, Im praying for you and your CHILDREN.
@NatirelMe I was in no way trying to speak against haiti. I was trying to distingush between the two. There are creoles all over this world. I said Louisiana creole also to distingush between the two frenches. They are similar but different. Someone from haiti approached my friend speaking creole because she told him she was creole. She let him know that she was from Louisiana and it cleared it up for him.
@mschaiful lol créole is not a race its so american to call anything a race créole originally meant somebody born in the french colonies weither white black or any other race nowadays in the Caribbeans its more associated with blacks since they make up the majority of the people in Martinique guadeloupe, guyane haiti but now you have indian(from india) créole white créole, chinese créole its a cultural thing louisiana créoles share the same,traditions... as the people in the french carribean
@mschaiful and lets assume there were such thing as the "créole race" consisting of light skinned "brothers" if u are black u must know that u can have one or even both light skinned parents and be black as coal and vice versa so you are wrong in every way
I dont know who this kid is..but he is clearly a BLACK MAN.. when people see him, they see BLACK. Not mixed creole boy or mixed race mullato man. It sounds pathetic how he tries to explain soo much how he is creole. but realisticaly, creoles were treated differently than BLacks in the time of slavery.
@levi777ism Oh the ignorance continues with you. When did I say I wasn't Black. I mean lets be real here, do you go up to a Jamaican and say YOUR not Jamaican your black....that is IGNORANT. The term Creole refers to a culture that a group of people celebrate and because it is a culture it is of mixed nationalities. Therefore, people are in all towns, ever been to Louisiana most people are my skin tone with French surnames. I never deny my African roots.
@levi777ism I know more about my African Roots than 99.99% of African Americans, Louisiana Creoles are fortunate to have a system that documented that. Our culture is more "black" than most US-Black cultures because of food, and dance, and language. Also, where is Black the nation located? I understand where my Afro-Creole roots come from, so please next time open your mind up a bit so it won't suffocate in ignorance!
@levi777ism child shut up creoles are niggas too. creoles where dark skinned first then they became lighter as years and decades went by. p.s. there are dark skinned creoles you big dummy!
Very interesting stuff....my mother was atakapa/choctaw/african and my grandmother was pure african...pretty crazy but its rumored she was Haitian because she spoke french....who knows but I will do my best to teach my daughter that we do exist and yes...IN ALL SHADES OS COLORS...even though I am bright and have the indian wavy hair does not qualify me for my own heritage...its the roots of my history!
I AM CREOLE! All my ROYS, PETRYS, BROUSSARDS, LEBLANC, TIBODAUX, PLACIDE, SIMMONS, GILLIAMS, n d rest of d surnames from Mommy's side and all of Bermuda stand up!
well I am Chocolate and I am half African American/Cajun/Creole and Bermudian
I love my roots from West Africa to Saint Domingue(Haiti) from Canada, Mexico, Germany, The Netherlands, France, Native Cherokees of the USA, Delcrombe/New Iberia Sexy on my mommy side and Central African, Native Pequot(St. Davids Islander), Portugese, English, East and West Indian Exotic... Jumbled up Siblings same parents coming out lookin like #picacard random...
Why do people wanna ignore that Haiti was conquered by France? Why do you think their language (Haitian-Creole) is so much like French? The American takeover has a name. History calls it the Louisiana Purchase. My family is of Haitian descent, but from Louisiana before the Louisiana Purchase, and still reside in Louisiana to this day. We also have a French, Irish, and Choctaw Indian ancestry, and we come in all colors from light to dark. Creole is creole whether you from Louisiana or not.
Its obvious by looking at you that you ARE Creole. Creoles come in all different shades and skin colors. Its the stupid ignorant people who know NOTHING about Louisiana and Haiti who make stupid comments about the appearance of Creoles. If you are not Creole than don't talk about a group of people you know nothing about!!
people are their worst enemies. I am from a creole family. My grandfather looks white, my mother looks Ethiopian (dark skinned), and I am lighter than both of my parents and depending on my hair am confused as Hawaiian, Indian, Asian, mixed... It's actually quite interesting, but skin tone aside, skin colour is not a factor. We are a people of mixed heritage, we come in all different shades, this also occurs within family. Free yourself of these self damming images, we are all one people...LeS.
Hello my friend. Your video is very informative, however to my understanding, Creole are not you and I who come from mixed ancestry. Rather, the true meaning of Creole is a European person such as French, Spanish or Portuguese who was born in the Americas. This is the true meaning of the Creole. Over time the Creole definition has change to include people of mixed Ethnicity.
WHY?? Because he is dark skinned??!! lol omgosh. DO ME A FAVOR.. and go look up Clifton Chenier.. famous creole musician. Now what? And that ain't even the half of it... if you feel like it, go look up some of the current zydeco musicians... what do they look like?? You guys are offensive - where do you get off telling someone that they have no rights to their ethnic identity. I'm Louisiana creole.. I see him as creole.
@fknSpesh0 Yes, it's because he is dark skinned. Anywhere else in America he would only be seen as black. Now Beyonce could probably be seen as Creole but not him. Sorry.
@Thedarksecret1 Therein lies the problem. America. - in Louisiana, Americans used to be considered foreigners. No wonder "America" still has trouble understanding the unique people and culture that is La Creole. But whats your excuse? I have just given you a means to educate yourself and yet you still choose ignorance. Did you even try to look up the man I told you about?
@fknSpesh0 Even if is he was in French Louisiana (before US acquisition) or Saint-Domingue (modern day Haiti) he'd still be considered black. I'm not speaking of Creole from an ethnic point of view. When I say Creole I'm referring to someone of mixed race. He's clearly not mixed. He may have some non-African ancestry WAY down the line but it's so little that it's irrelevant.
@Thedarksecret1 Interesting - Did he dispute being black? He is clearly a black man - a black creole man. Creole doesn't neccessarily mean mixed race. If it did, any bi/multi-racial would be considred Creole. If you speak of it as a race you will just continue to be confused and further confuse others. There's only one race - the human race. Louisiana creole should only be used to refer to ones ethnicity...
@fknSpesh0 Creole does mean that you're mixed. Look up the word. Being born and living in Louisiana doesn' make you Creole. If that were the case then Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Master P, and Birdman are all Creole. Yeah right.
@Thedarksecret1 You really have no idea what you are talking about. Creole does not mean mixed NOR does it mean being born in Louisiana. Creole refers to people whether black, white, mixed, or native americans WHOSE ANCESTRY DATES BACK before Louisiana became a part of the United States. These people tend to descend from Catholics and French/french creole speakers. PLEASE, GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD THAT CREOLE DOES NOT MEAN MIXED. IT'S OBVIOUS THAT YOU HAVE NOT READ ON THE MATTER BECAUSE YOU...
@Thedarksecret1 look i'm french créole is a french word meanin anybody born in the colonies whether white black or whatever for instance there are french islands in the indian ocean(la réunion, mauritus island...) with people of chinese, french indian african... ancestry and they r all called créole because they share the same culture they speak the same language. if créole means light skinned than Juvenile, Romeo, gudda gudda... r creole "yeah right" i gess its an US thing to make anything a race
@zoeprincess92- I agree with you. If the media is going to show the black creoles of Haiti, they should show the Mulattos, Caucasions, and so on. All types of Haitians diserve to be represented.
why do ppl always get haitian creole confused wit louisiana creole two completely different things the "language" that haitians speak is called creole.......and i dont kno where it says dat the color of our skins define who we r and where we come from u can be light skin and u go out in da sun alot yo skin can get darker.
@zoeprincess92 AMEN! I am about to post a video about the Connection and the DISConnect of Louisiana and Haiti, because Louisiana Creoles are also its own group aside from Haiti, but are cousins with Haitians in the LARGER Creole world.
@iamcreole How are you received by the broader creole community in louisiana? I know a significant number of creoles in Los Angeles, New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and they say extremely cruel things about brown skinned creoles on a regular basis.
@zoeprincess92 so what if they think we are brunt Black that is a good thing we are Africans. Haiti is a mini Africa. and Africa has all kind of people
@TruthdontneedDefense but u kno simple minded ppl will always believe everything dat they see or hear on the media they only see the poor side of haiti and they only show dark skin haitians all the time on tv so in their head they think dats wat haiti is all about but they have no idea
@zoeprincess92 again I dont like your point people think Portorico has only light-skinned people (which is not true its full of dark people) but Puertoricans dont have a problem with that. i just dont see why it bothers you that they only show dark-skinned people. So you think showing light-skinned people would make Haiti look good? You only complain because deep down you are ashamed of the dark Haitians
@TruthdontneedDefense im a dark skin haitian never been ashame of it i happen to be very proud of it bc my black is beautiful theres nothing wrong wit having dark skin. Even though u dont agree wit wat im saying but u even said it yourself ppl think dat puerto ricans are only light skin jus like ppl think dat haitians vice-versa.dats wat u call stereotypes.I think haiti is a beautiful country wit a beautiful culture no matter wat ppl think.i rest my case.
@TruthdontneedDefense yeah...zoeprincess deep down associates dark skin with poverty. I have haitian descent like you. I am like the only one in my family interested in our haitian roots. I've always been drawn to haitians.
@sambo861 you speak a lot of truth thanks for commenting! I always love comments with people who know the history and have done some research. Merci mon fre!
@iamcreole first of all ! the person on the video should be saying " I have creole in me" not " I am Creole". He's a black man with Creole ancestry.
Creole are peoples that have a mixture of European and black, sometimes Native American. He may be mixed with Creole, but in no way is he a Creole. He's a black man with partial Creole ancestry
@AhavaYah YOUR WRONG. I was going to EDUCATE you bout the RACIAL things about Creole, but your not even Louisiana Creole. A Creole in Louisiana is one who traces roots to Louisiana PRIOR to the American takeover. So, in Louisiana MOST of the Louisiana Creoles are my texture what you are describing is a GEN DE COULER Creole. The VAST majority of us are mixed between things, but in ALL shades. So, you comment was very OFFENSIVE to the majority of Creoles who aren't light...
@iamcreole Thank you...isn't it amazing how non-Creoles can just make that statement? Just another way to remove history and heritage from anyone of visible African heritage. Awful! CREOLE doesn't mean "race" folkx...it's heritage/culture!
Also out of FOUR of my grandparents THREE have Louisiana Creole heritage so it is not about skin tone, so please take your IGNORANT comments about "RACE" somewhere else, I am for REPRESENTING all CREOLES no matter skin tone, and you should say "I discriminate against who is Creole" and you are a Black person also....
@AhavaYah um You're logic is interesting By your definition, A creole is mainly a mix of european and black,
Now if your argument is that he is of creole descent And creole is a mix of european and black, isnt he also a mix of european and black? that's like saying obama's kids arent part white because their not biracial. what?!
@iamcreole I speak French fluently. All you say in French or Creole I can understand. You have partial Creole. You are not Creole. Creole est un melange de plusieurs races. To pa Creole si to gen trop en to
@malfini1 as a fellow Louisiana Creole told me there are connections to Haiti but we are different. There is a Haitian influence I'm very aware and many are this video sheds light on other influenced less known, also did you know Louisiana Creoles had an influence on Haiti? I'd research that also it's a two way street. Blessings!
My brother you mentioned all sorts of influence except the significant Hatian influenc on Louiaiana creole. You ought to do some research on that right there!
@blackspaniard1025 You don't know that. This dude is actually mixed and he does look mixed. Perhaps you think his features are from a multigenerational continual mixtures throughout the line which you label or point out with black but he is mixed. He looks mixed up
@blackspaniard1025 What does being mixed have to do with being creole. Man yu people are confused. There was a significant Hatian influence on Louisiana creole. Its a language thing not a race thing! In the past the term was used to refer to whites born in the new world. That uage is now obsolete so there really are no more creoles, however people speak various creoles!
@blackspaniard1025 lol wow are people really this uneducated you think every creole looks like beyonce, does every white person have blue eye and blonde hair?
I am wondering if any of you have ever been to caneriver to research your people. Some of The early settlers were from France,Germany and Austria. Go talk to your parents and ask more questions PLEASE!
WOW! It is amazing to read some of these comments!Really? Some of you need to read more! Before you speak about something do the research! If you are not creole then I really don't expect you to understand and I don't care if you do or don't! It is a rich culture of people who have strong traditions from indian, african, spanish and European heritages! My family is from Caneriver Louisiana and we have all colors from the lightest to the darkest. It is more than a color or feature or hair texture.

i understand exactly where hes coming from....ive been told ever since i was little that i was 2 dark 2 be creole and people have even tol me that it didnt matter anyways because of the fact that I was born and raised in cleveland ohio.howeve my roots generate back 2 louisianna and even thoe im dark my younger sibblings are almost white and we all have those same creole facail features
Everybody from Louisiana is not Creole. It ticks me off when people try to be Creole just because they are from Louisiana. Not you iamcreole, I am speaking in general. I'm very protective of my culture, look most Creoles.
@AhavaYah That's not true..ever heard of the Schexnider's? Try to tell them they are not creole some are cajun and they will look at you like you're crazy. You can lose your name because of a bastard ancestor or because of a maiden name being lost.
@iamcreole It seems the more you try to explain to people that creole is not a race but an ethnicity, the more they want to believe that is a race. They've been taught that creole equals mixed race for years, and they just can't understand what the real definition is.
Real talk, cause Im creole, and im carmel, but my brother is dark skinned, but we have the same parents, so Creoles come in all colors, our Sirname "Alexander" is Greek/Creole and we all know european had ties in creole ancestry, so who whoever think creoles are only light skinned, well they are sadly, yet pathetically mistakin, so ur absolutely right, I know because me and my family are Louisiana Natives, born and raised. my great, and great great, ancestors all were born and raised here.
I know how you feel...my family comes in various colours, are Louisiana Creole, but they would deny my heritage in a minute when I tell them that I am. (I'm currently in New Orleans). But, I love the culture, heritage, etc.
I'm creole too but it sucks cause I know NOTHING about it but I know I am for sure. I dont know if I am frech creole or haitan..My great grandpa died before we were taught that info..sucks not knowing I think I'm gonna educate myself..I'd hate for my kids to feel like I do about their culture and background.
this is just becoming so cliche and embarassing. I feel like every other dark skinned "Creole" is crying for acceptance into the Creole culture just because there's a majority of Creoles who are light skinned with European features. I have one dark skinned grandparent and all the rest look white. I just so happen to be a medium tone. But I'm not striving to make everyone KNOW that I'm Creole and making a mission to prove it. This is so annoying and disrespectful. This culture is going to shit.
@noirpoetix1 well hunny if u truely feel that way instead of putting us down because of our skin tone why not accept us and move on...and yes there are a lot of people claiming 2 b creole who reall arnt and yes it is annoying but sweetie u cant complain about the problem unless ur tryna b apart of the solution....and if u feel our culture is going 2 s**t as u say then do something about it dont just sit there and let it happen
For those of us who have been educated in a much more eclectic education, we know the definition of creole, or pidgen. These terms can be any mixture of 2 or more races. Let's give our young generation our support of at least showing the knowledge of at least a rudimentary education. Cultural Anthropology is simple.
Here's the thing...it's a huge disrespect our culture when someone who is black comes along and says "OH YEA MY GRAMMA WUZ CREO'! SO DAT MAKE ME CREO'!"...Si ou pa konnen lang lan, kilti a, oswa nenpòt ki nan istwa a Lè sa a, pa di ke ou se kreyòl jis paske fason yon moun anba liy lan te kreyòl! It seems like blacks wanna be anything else EXCEPT black, so saying they're Creole just makes them feel better. I'm Creole...all day, every day. SI OU PA RETE LA...LI DI OU PA!
@dissidia123456789 how does that make me a dick? because I'm standing up for my culture and keeping it from becoming cliche? I don't want it to become a thing where every other black person says they're Creole from way back the same way they claim Native American ancestry but wouldn't know the first thing about what tribe they're from or the language and culture.
@noirpoetix1 hey just sayin...i'm no where near creole i'm just aboriginal but it's like this whole thing has become some sort of click...u are a part of the club cuz of this, well it doesn't matter cuz we are all people. Besides a creole lady would prob get wit a dark man anyway, so it'll end all this wierd anger.
@noirpoetix1 in a sence u are right but most of ur statement is wrong...in fact the only thing i can say that is right about anything u have said is the fact that people claim to be something when they wouldnt know the first thing about it...but in the same breath u have no right 2 tell someone what they are and are not i mean what do u want them 2 do dig up there ancestors and have them tell u.....
@noirpoetix1 okay, you obviously don't even know a creole by that statement. Creole is not a race. There are tons of light people who claim to have creole roots AND DON'T! you can be of any race and be louisiana creole, and it's even more disrespectful for you to try and tell dark skin people that they aren't creole. YOU CAN BE BLACK AND CREOLE. IT'S NOT AN EITHER?OR TYPE OF SITUATION! If your parents/grandparents are from louisiana, speak french, eat creole food, have FRENCH last names, etc,
@noirpoetix1 contin, THEN you ARE MOST LIKELY LOUISIANA CREOLE. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR RACE! The misconception that creole means mixed race is a very ANNOYING concept which alienates people from being able to claim that they belong to a certain ethnic group. I am sure you still don't understand what I am saying though cause most people do not know WHAT A TRUE CREOLE IS. IT'S NOT A RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not trying to sound bitchy or anything.
@noirpoetix1 Thank You. I love my people and I am so sick of wannabe's claiming they are Creole to feel better about themselves. Like you I'm Creole all day everyday.
@senorchipotle too bad i'm not a "mademoiselle". Also, the dialect of Creole I was speaking is the Creole my grandmother grew up speaking as well as French in her home. Simply put, I find that "dark skinned" Creole or the ones who don't "look Creole" are the main ones always running around trying to claim the heritage. It doesn't count if your great grandma was some light skinned woman and you therefore believe you're Creole now. Doesn't work that way.
@noirpoetix1 i completely agree with u and not only is creole a nationality its also a herataige so if ur gonna claim the race u have to live the race....
@13boodah Creole is not a nationality, it's an ethnicity. Nationality describes what country you are from. There's no such place as Creolelandia or anything. It's an ethnic group because we are bound by our common culture.
@noirpoetix1 exscuse u now im getting upset....first of all ur just making urself sound like a racist douche.......CREOLE HERATAIGE CONSISTS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HERATAIGE.....what part of that do u not understand......if u wanna get technical u need 2 realize that back in the day if u didnt look white nd have all the features of a white person U WERE CONSIDERED BLACK!!!! so just because someone doesnt look the part doesnt mean there not.....
@13boodah are you going through all of my comments and responding or something? I look at my phone and it's blown up with messages alerting me that you've responded with some convoluted soliloquy.
@noirpoetix1 quite frankly yes i was....and only because i wanted 2 see what everyone was so worked up about because from the first comment i saw from u i was accually agreeing with u....untill i looked at previous comments and i felt the need 2 speak my mind because i was rather offended
@13boodah I would say that louisiana creole has more African influence than African American influence. African Americans didn't arrive to Louisiana until much, much later after Louisiana had already become an American territory. If you go to New Orleans, you can see that the colors, food, and dance are more African than African American.
do you celebrate your Hatian & Your Africian American Side! I notice you tell only part of The Of Louisiana Creole History. If This Was Back in the Day you would be considered poorly bread. Back in the day They wanted to keep the bloodline pure so interbreeding and marrying of white men to keep the bloodline pure was common. And Dont get me on the Subject of Plaçage. I think its cool that you are Proud of Your Creole Heritage but I hope you are as proud of your Black Side!
@amir7worldwide No I do not celebrate my Haitian side because I am not Haitian. I do celebrate my African American side apart from my Creole side, but once again people think Creole is a word to separate from Black. The word Creole has been around to describe people before African-American and Black. Do you ask a Jamaican if they celebrate their Black side? No because it is a dumb question, their Jamaican roots is a culture and a nationality NOT A RACE. It is the same Creole is NOT a race.
READ UP ON YOUR HISTORY BEFORE YOU READ UP ON OTHERS!

i am so glad you're speaking on this topic. my family is Creole from Louisiana & my great-grandmother, who was blue-black in complexion, spoke Creole fluently. i am dark-brown skinned. not all Creoles are light to caramel complexion as many of my family members married other brown to black skinned Creoles. do we have white blood in us? sure we do but our black genes are dominant, i.e. the majority of us are dark-skinned and proud of it. my mom's generation was the 1st to speak English only.

I learned in Linguistic Anthropology that Creole may refer to a Language, a Culture, as well as a Race, which would often be people of mixed ancestry. So the term is applied to several things. So under another sense, no you are not Creole, as Creole is coming together of three races or more, and this would often denote a lighter skin or caramel complexion.
allantecathey 6 months ago
@allantecathey I am glad you "took a class, and read a book" that is 99.9% not written by Louisiana Creoles, and I am glad you decide who is Creole or not, now I will gather the other 3million Louisiana Creoles so you can tell them if they are or not Creole?....sorry your comment is funny!
iamcreole 6 months ago 11
@iamcreole It does not matter what "3million" people think. I know the doctrine I have been taught, is based on fact and technicality, not some 'All-Inclusive" welcoming benchmark which invites everyone. I am Creole, it flows threw my veins, and virtually everyone can see it in me and on me.
allantecathey 4 months ago
@allantecathey
I am of mix ancestry and I am brown skin so color has nothing to do with mix race your argument would of been stronger if you left that segment out about the caramel complexion because your DNA does not determine always your skin color . I have British middle eastern and native in my genes and you can't tell with me I look black but my cousins and brother and dad look mix race so ... you can;t dismiss people who do not look the part.
constance380 6 months ago

I have to agree with some of the people here, because a lot of Louisiana Creoles do have Haitian in there blood. Do some of these people read their history ? A lot of Whites fled from Saint Domingue In history which is modern day HAITI. Those whites were mostly of FRENCH descent. So many Whites in Louisiana with a French surname are HAITIAN.
soymezclado44 7 months ago
@soymezclado44 to a degree. A lot of the ones fled Saint-Domingue were a mix of French and Black, people should realize that Haiti contributed to Louisiana but does not define it. New Orleans has many Haitian influences and only New Orleans, most of Louisiana does not. When 30k Haitians came in, nearly 200k people lived in Louisiana, so our history is MUCH BIGGER than one influx of people. So, it does not mean their Haitian, and we do not call ourselves Haitian.

@levi777ism Oh the ignorance continues with you. When did I say I wasn't Black. I mean lets be real here, do you go up to a Jamaican and say YOUR not Jamaican your black....that is IGNORANT.

@fknSpesh0 Yes, it's because he is dark skinned. Anywhere else in America he would only be seen as black. Now Beyonce could probably be seen as Creole but not him. Sorry.
Thedarksecret1 1 year ago
@Thedarksecret1 Therein lies the problem. America. - in Louisiana, Americans used to be considered foreigners. No wonder "America" still has trouble understanding the unique people and culture that is La Creole. But whats your excuse? I have just given you a means to educate yourself and yet you still choose ignorance. Did you even try to look up the man I told you about?
fknSpesh0 1 year ago
@fknSpesh0 Even if is he was in French Louisiana (before US acquisition) or Saint-Domingue (modern day Haiti) he'd still be considered black. I'm not speaking of Creole from an ethnic point of view. When I say Creole I'm referring to someone of mixed race. He's clearly not mixed. He may have some non-African ancestry WAY down the line but it's so little that it's irrelevant.
Thedarksecret1 1 year ago
@Thedarksecret1 Interesting - Did he dispute being black? He is clearly a black man - a black creole man. Creole doesn't neccessarily mean mixed race. If it did, any bi/multi-racial would be considred Creole. If you speak of it as a race you will just continue to be confused and further confuse others. There's only one race - the human race. Louisiana creole should only be used to refer to ones ethnicity...
fknSpesh0 1 year ago
@fknSpesh0 Creole does mean that you're mixed. Look up the word. Being born and living in Louisiana doesn' make you Creole. If that were the case then Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Master P, and Birdman are all Creole. Yeah right.
Thedarksecret1 1 year ago 2
@Thedarksecret1 You really have no idea what you are talking about. Creole does not mean mixed NOR does it mean being born in Louisiana. Creole refers to people whether black, white, mixed, or native americans WHOSE ANCESTRY DATES BACK before Louisiana became a part of the United States. These people tend to descend from Catholics and French/french creole speakers. PLEASE, GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD THAT CREOLE DOES NOT MEAN MIXED.
TruthdontneedDefense 1 year ago
@TruthdontneedDefense im a dark skin haitian never been ashame of it i happen to be very proud of it bc my black is beautiful theres nothing wrong wit having dark skin. Even though u dont agree wit wat im saying but u even said it yourself ppl think dat puerto ricans are only light skin jus like ppl think dat haitians vice-versa.dats wat u call stereotypes.I think haiti is a beautiful country wit a beautiful culture no matter wat ppl think.i rest my case.
zoeprincess92 1 year ago
@TruthdontneedDefense yeah...zoeprincess deep down associates dark skin with poverty. I have haitian descent like you. I am like the only one in my family interested in our haitian roots. I've always been drawn to haitians.

AhavaYah 1 year ago 4
@AhavaYah YOUR WRONG. I was going to EDUCATE you bout the RACIAL things about Creole, but your not even Louisiana Creole. A Creole in Louisiana is one who traces roots to Louisiana PRIOR to the American takeover. So, in Louisiana MOST of the Louisiana Creoles are my texture what you are describing is a GEN DE COULER Creole. The VAST majority of us are mixed between things, but in ALL shades. So, you comment was very OFFENSIVE to the majority of Creoles who aren't light...
iamcreole 1 year ago
@iamcreole Thank you...isn't it amazing how non-Creoles can just make that statement? Just another way to remove history and heritage from anyone of visible African heritage. Awful! CREOLE doesn't mean "race" folkx...it's heritage/culture!
hwiseman1 1 year ago
Also out of FOUR of my grandparents THREE have Louisiana Creole heritage so it is not about skin tone, so please take your IGNORANT comments about "RACE" somewhere else, I am for REPRESENTING all CREOLES no matter skin tone, and you should say "I discriminate against who is Creole" and you are a Black person also....
iamcreole 1 year ago
@AhavaYah um You're logic is interesting By your definition, A creole is mainly a mix of european and black,
Now if your argument is that he is of creole descent And creole is a mix of european and black, isnt he also a mix of european and black? that's like saying obama's kids arent part white because their not biracial. what?!
Fuzzbabby 1 year ago
@iamcreole I speak French fluently. All you say in French or Creole I can understand. You have partial Creole. You are not Creole. Creole est un melange de plusieurs races. To pa Creole si to gen trop en to

@AhavaYah Where are you from, and how is that you speak French?
sambo861 1 year ago
@malfini1 as a fellow Louisiana Creole told me there are connections to Haiti but we are different. There is a Haitian influence I'm very aware and many are this video sheds light on other influenced less known, also did you know Louisiana Creoles had an influence on Haiti? I'd research that also it's a two way street. Blessings!
iamcreole 1 year ago
My brother you mentioned all sorts of influence except the significant Hatian influenc on Louiaiana creole. You ought to do some research on that right there!
malfini1 1 year ago
really the creoles ive met looked mixed you may have been born in louisiana but you do not look mixed ie hair skin nose mouth etc
blackspaniard1025 1 year ago
@blackspaniard1025 You don't know that. This dude is actually mixed and he does look mixed. Perhaps you think his features are from a multigenerational continual mixtures throughout the line which you label or point out with black but he is mixed. He looks mixed up
chsn09 1 year ago
@blackspaniard1025 You want to read up about the difference between genotype ad phenotype.
OneSummerSky 1 year ago
@blackspaniard1025 What does being mixed have to do with being creole. Man yu people are confused. There was a significant Hatian influence on Louisiana creole. Its a language thing not a race thing! In the past the term was used to refer to whites born in the new world. That uage is now obsolete so there really are no more creoles, however people speak various creoles!
malfini1 1 year ago

Everybody from Louisiana is not Creole. It ticks me off when people try to be Creole just because they are from Louisiana. Not you iamcreole, I am speaking in general. I'm very protective of my culture, look most Creoles.

@iamcreole It seems the more you try to explain to people that creole is not a race but an ethnicity, the more they want to believe that is a race. They've been taught that creole equals mixed race for years, and they just can't understand what the real definition is.

Real talk, cause Im creole, and im carmel, but my brother is dark skinned, but we have the same parents, so Creoles come in all colors, our Sirname "Alexander" is Greek/Creole and we all know european had ties in creole ancestry, so who whoever think creoles are only light skinned, well they are sadly, yet pathetically mistakin, so ur absolutely right, I know because me and my family are Louisiana Natives, born and raised. my great, and great great, ancestors all were born and raised here.

i completely agree lousinana creoles like me are not always light skinned although im light it means nothing its just a skin color

NaturallyTOiBaby 1 year ago
this is just becoming so cliche and embarassing. This culture is going to shit.
noirpoetix1 1 year ago 2
@noirpoetix1 well hunny if u truely feel that way instead of putting us down because of our skin tone why not accept us and move on...and yes there are a lot of people claiming 2 b creole who reall arnt and yes it is annoying but sweetie u cant complain about the problem unless ur tryna b apart of the solution....and if u feel our culture is going 2 s**t as u say then do something about it dont just sit there and let it happen
13boodah 1 year ago
For those of us who have been educated in a much more eclectic education, we know the definition of creole, or pidgen. These terms can be any mixture of 2 or more races. Let's give our young generation our support of at least showing the knowledge of at least a rudimentary education. Cultural Anthropology is simple.
Misjanful 1 year ago

@noirpoetix1 wow ur a dick...
dissidia123456789 1 year ago
@dissidia123456789 how does that make me a dick? because I'm standing up for my culture and keeping it from becoming cliche? I don't want it to become a thing where every other black person says they're Creole from way back the same way they claim Native American ancestry but wouldn't know the first thing about what tribe they're from or the language and culture.
noirpoetix1 1 year ago
@noirpoetix1 hey just sayin...i'm no where near creole i'm just aboriginal but it's like this whole thing has become some sort of click...u are a part of the club cuz of this, well it doesn't matter cuz we are all people. Besides a creole lady would prob get wit a dark man anyway, so it'll end all this wierd anger.
dissidia123456789 1 year ago
@noirpoetix1 in a sence u are right but most of ur statement is wrong...in fact the only thing i can say that is right about anything u have said is the fact that people claim to be something when they wouldnt know the first thing about it...but in the same breath u have no right 2 tell someone what they are and are not i mean what do u want them 2 do dig up there ancestors and have them tell u.....
13boodah 1 year ago
@noirpoetix1 okay, you obviously don't even know a creole by that statement. Creole is not a race. There are tons of light people who claim to have creole roots AND DON'T! you can be of any race and be louisiana creole, and it's even more disrespectful for you to try and tell dark skin people that they aren't creole. YOU CAN BE BLACK AND CREOLE. IT'S NOT AN EITHER?OR TYPE OF SITUATION! If your parents/grandparents are from louisiana, speak french, eat creole food, have FRENCH last names, etc,
sambo861 1 year ago
@noirpoetix1 contin, THEN you ARE MOST LIKELY LOUISIANA CREOLE. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR RACE! The misconception that creole means mixed race is a very ANNOYING concept which alienates people from being able to claim that they belong to a certain ethnic group. I am sure you still don't understand what I am saying though cause most people do not know WHAT A TRUE CREOLE IS. IT'S NOT A RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not trying to sound bitchy or anything.
sambo861 1 year ago
@noirpoetix1 Thank You. I love my people and I am so sick of wannabe's claiming they are Creole to feel better about themselves. Like you I'm Creole all day everyday.

@aprigirl u have to understand that our blood is so rich that hey who wouldnt want to be creole we are beautiful people
13boodah 1 year ago
senorchipotle 1 year ago
@senorchipotle too bad i'm not a "mademoiselle". Also, the dialect of Creole I was speaking is the Creole my grandmother grew up speaking as well as French in her home. Simply put, I find that "dark skinned" Creole or the ones who don't "look Creole" are the main ones always running around trying to claim the heritage. It doesn't count if your great grandma was some light skinned woman and you therefore believe you're Creole now. Doesn't work that way.
noirpoetix1 1 year ago
@noirpoetix1 i completely agree with u and not only is creole a nationality its also a herataige so if ur gonna claim the race u have to live the race....
13boodah 1 year ago
@13boodah Creole is not a nationality, it's an ethnicity. Nationality describes what country you are from. There's no such place as Creolelandia or anything. It's an ethnic group because we are bound by our common culture.
sambo861 1 year ago
@noirpoetix1 Well, how does it work then?
sambo861 1 year ago
@noirpoetix1 exscuse u now im getting upset....first of all ur just making urself sound like a racist douche.......CREOLE HERATAIGE CONSISTS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HERATAIGE.....what part of that do u not understand......if u wanna get technical u need 2 realize that back in the day if u didnt look white nd have all the features of a white person U WERE CONSIDERED BLACK!!!! so just because someone doesnt look the part doesnt mean there not.....
13boodah 1 year ago
@13boodah are you going through all of my comments and responding or something? I look at my phone and it's blown up with messages alerting me that you've responded with some convoluted soliloquy.
noirpoetix1 1 year ago
@noirpoetix1 quite frankly yes i was....and only because i wanted 2 see what everyone was so worked up about because from the first comment i saw from u i was accually agreeing with u....untill i looked at previous comments and i felt the need 2 speak my mind because i was rather offended
13boodah 1 year ago
@13boodah I would say that louisiana creole has more African influence than African American influence. African Americans didn't arrive to Louisiana until much, much later after Louisiana had already become an American territory. If you go to New Orleans, you can see that the colors, food, and dance are more African than African American.
sambo861 1 year ago
do you celebrate your Hatian & Your Africian American Side! I think its cool that you are Proud of Your Creole Heritage but I hope you are as proud of your Black Side!
amir7worldwide 1 year ago
@amir7worldwide No I do not celebrate my Haitian side because I am not Haitian. I do celebrate my African American side apart from my Creole side, but once again people think Creole is a word to separate from Black. The word Creole has been around to describe people before African-American and Black. Do you ask a Jamaican if they celebrate their Black side? No because it is a dumb question, their Jamaican roots is a culture and a nationality NOT A RACE. It is the same Creole is NOT a race.
