  • Thank you sir for this awesome idea. I went to michaels and purchased 2 foam sheets .89 each. some one wrap velcro 9.99. and made two 6 inch reflectors for starters. I took a bottle to make curves at the top edge of the sheets like your production models. To keep it from slipping of f my flash I glued a piece of velcro on both short sides of my flash. Then made slits like belt loops and ran the velcro through the reflector. Now when I wrap it around my flash there is no way for it to fall off.

  • what if ur shooting vertically?

  • superb instruction and many more tips in the comments !! thanks a zillion....

  • Did he really use a PA while recording this? lol

  • you sir,are a genius

  • how many inches? great vid!

  • Thanks for sharing..it a very good idea.

  • very helpful. thank you PeterGregg, thank you..

  • Thanks A Lot Peter!!! The paper by the way is made by a company called "Creatology" and they are distributed by Michaels. I purchased 2 12x18 sheets for .99 cents each and I made 3 of the smaller units and 1 large unit. i will be testing the smaller units at an event I shoot for called PlayDate Nashville this evening.

I think the lighting tips were as valuable, if not more than the bounce card technique.

    Thanks Again

  • Thank you! Helped a lot.

  • thanks for posting this.

  • I concur with everything he says - the foam paper is easily available at Hobby Lobby or Michaels arts and crafts in the U.S.

  • Thank a lot man! That was an awesome tutorial!! You're a really nice man. God bless you. I'm looking forward to more tutorials by you.

  • more tricks please thankyou soo much

  • Thank you good sir. Very helpful.

  • thanks for sharing... stay outta the audio business

  • the echo is bad in a good way.

  • Does anyone know ehre to get the material he talks about? The Rag Shops are no longer in business.

  • Thanks for this! It's a great idea.

  • Thank you so much! I finally got around to doing this, and it helped IMMENSELY! God bless :)

  • Thanks so much! Really great info. Just got my first 'real' flash today. Feeling a little more confident now :)

  • ZZZzzzzz.........

  • yes, i through you were letterman for a minute there...

  • Great information! OK, the guy is a bit ADD, but his info is fantastic. I built 3 of these for less than $2.00 total (I had the glue and Velcro in the garage) out of two sheets of foam I bought at Michaels. They all have the black backing like the ones he sells on his website. They all work great. He also sells 5 or 6 versions of ABBC with the black backing on his website.

  • Congratulations on one of the most common-sensical clips on YouTube.

  • Wait, I dont get it, is the material foamy?

  • very good info

  • Oy. Nicely done but brutal.

  • 9:25 Fucking hilarious! "Very similar to other objects that you might recognize."

  • LMFAOOO

  • Blaaahhh!!! I just realized what he meant. That is probably why he's got that reverb on his mic!

  • Thanks Peter!!

  • Appreciate the great info, but how my god, cut the ECHO of the mic, its terrible.

  • Thanx.. it help me very much

  • Thanks a lot, Peter.

  • the reverb is a nice touch.

  • Thanks, built mine this morning... Works GREAT and you can't beat the price. It really does help to defuse the harsh flash. Can't wait to try it on people, I've got about 10,000 pictures of everything in my house. :)

  • thanks thats amazing... now i really don't need to get a flash bracket

  • Thanks Peter... I just got myself a 2nd hand 550EX and was wondering how to get it to diffuse just right. Watched your video and am going to go straight out to get some photo paper and a big rubber band. Shame we don't get that sponge paper here in Singapore, but I'm sure I'll make do with photo paper. Thanks for sharing the fantastic tips. My thanks from over this side of the world.

  • thanks for the video!

  • What a great bunch of advice and helpful info. Unfortunately, I do not have a flexible flash like yours. Only the built in on my D70 and a detachable which doesn't move at all. :(

  • you need to get yourself an off camera flash.

  • what do you think is on his camera?

  • Tks for this video, you are great! tks again.

    Good luck.

  • great advise, I'll definitely make one!

  • thanks a lot peter!

  • Thanks for the advice. I was considering buying a diffuser. But after watching your video, I decided to make one from your instructions,,,,, I then tested it out and realized it works really great...

    Thankyou.

  • Great advice, but I do feel a little slower in the head after watching that.

  • Thank you very much for the tip. I was strugling to make a bounce card.

  • thank you for the advice!!!! again what is the material you used to bounce the flash? I couldn't understand, I know is inkjet paper, but what kind? Again I have to thank you because I won't spend 50 bucks for that sphere diffuser anymore:)

  • I am so glad kh0annguyen knows where the corner of the paper is....he has lost his manners.

  • tks peter for the great and original idea

  • Fantastic advice and really well done...

    Thank you!!

  • Thank you so much !!! So clear.. Keep on making these videos!!

  • Absolutely Loved the videos! Thanks so much Peter!

  • Great video. You can find the foam at Walmart or Michaels craft store. Less than a dollar for a large sheet that you could easily make a couple of the bounce cards.

  • Thanks but do you have to talk like you are addressing a bunch of 6 year olds? Yes, I know where the corner of the paper is already.

  • Thanks Peter!

    Very Helpful!

  • Thanks so much! Works great!

  • Thanks so much!

  • Very informative video Peter. I think most people will find it very helpful. Thank you very much.

  • Pure genius! Thanx so much for sharing your knowledge. You just saved me $25. I was going to buy to LumiQuest version, but thanks to you and Ken Rockwell, I will do this myself..especially considering how much I like doing my own things, as opposed to paying someone. Thank you much.

    aimlessphotography

  • Ken Rockwell is a douchebag. Take his information with a grain of salt.

  • THANKS for share'n your rich experience

  • Thanks, Pete! Followed a link from dphotojournal to get here. I've been meaning to try this, but with a cut-up PTFE milk bottle and a few staples. I really like the elastic band for attachment. I'll be keeping all your great tips in mind!

  • thanks pete , DPC

  • what a great guy

  • excellent instructions! thanks for sharing.

  • I'm thinking 'bout cutting an old bicycle tube into stripes of 3 Inches.

Properbly an good alternative for an rubber band.

  • Awesome video, thanks for putting the time into sharing that with everyone, I think ill head to the local Michaels right now, hah.

  • Thanks, handy and funny thinking about the lightsphere...

  • great video

  • Hey Peter. Great video and cool product. A request: I'd love to see a video how-to on making a simple at-home portrait studio for family photos. I've read a few things using affordable lighting (construction lighting?!) and bedsheets or painted panels from the home improvement store.

  • I found a foamy paper at Michaels craft store that I think is the same thing. Does anybody know? This stuff says "Easy to shape, but and glue! Foam Sheet" on the tag. I think it's mostly used for scrap-booking.

Comes in a few thicknesses and sells for about $.70 per 12x18 inch sheets.

  • I got some today at Michaels, it has like a purple and pink tag stapled to it. That's the right stuff! Though I paid 99 cents for it.

  • Where'd you get that rubber band - looks perfect.

  • Great Video! Thanks! I'm a novice and need all the instruction I can get! You did a great job. Again Thanks and we all appreciate it! Carla

  • Excellent advice and good presentation. You are a great teacher, and know alot about flash photography. I am still learning and appreciate your instruction about photography.

  • What a great video. Watching you make the bouncer is so much easier than reading about it. I accidently discovered that turning my flash behind me created beautiful light... I tried making a Stofen type difusser, using semi-opaque bottles but liked the behind me flash result the best. Now I can make a little bouncer to use too. Thank you so much for taking the time to get all the stuff together, and making and posting the video.

  • Great video, very informative. I will try this, thank you.

  • Nice work, cheapest way to enjoy flash photography

  • That was really cool. Nice work.

  • Hey it works great!! Thanks for sharing.
