  • I love every moment of this!

  • fantastic, I hope i get a chance someday to go there with you guys. Lot's of fun!! good job Gordon, as always

  • wow seems like it was a canon photowalk huh...lol

  • @marque27 Not really! The two pros had Nikon bodies, and there were also several Panasonic and Sony ILCs...

  • @cameralabs more videos?

  • @stavyros I'm busy writing reviews and photography ebooks at cameralabs . com!

  • Great Queenstown walk about, so when are you coming to Auckland to do the same.

  • @colingm I'd love to, but you'd need to show me the sights. Unless of course we just shoot boats around Viaduct Harbour!

  • thanks for the upload! :D

  • More videos like this please :DDD

  • I would like some help...I am a beginner in photography and want to learn. The images taken around the end of the video (10:27) where the colour is rich and vibrant. I would like to know what was used (filters, lenses). What makes them look so amazing?!?!?!

    Thanks, if anyone can help.

  • @ResarfNz These are HDR shots - I suggest looking up the photographers names seen on the video on Google+ to ask them, and also check out Trey Ratcliff as one of the best-known HDR experts.

  • @cameralabs they may not be all HDR the rich warm colors are a result of using Color Temperature mode found in any dslr and increasing the temperature to higher values. HDR is used to have multiple subjects in the photograph properly exposed. Like if u r shooting a sunset with a person in foreground in normal WB either the person would be dark or the background would be too bright, but if u wish to have both the person and background properly exposed u can use HDR on multiple shots at diff expos

  • @ResarfNz Looks like Todd was using an ND filter, most likely a graduated one to darken the sky while the sea and foreground is allowed to expose more. You can see him cleaning it with a cloth at 11:42 shortly before going back in the lake for another shot.

  • The lakes not the cold in the summer wat r u on about? Hehe we go swimming in it nearly everyday :)

  • The lake is cold because it is from melted glaciers. Also, the water cannot be sub-zero considering that would be below freezing point. And it's water. Haha

  • I'm in Queenstown right now. Rode the TSS Earnslaw yesterday

  • like all your other videos, this ,too, was a joy to view...unlike the others though, a bit less structured...not so much UNstructured than out-of-lab...i enjoyed the departure from the standard...

  • i like that women with this coolpix thing! she seems to be a pro photographer! :D

  • Looks like a good time was had by all. Thanks for taking us along.

  • great video as allways:) nice work

  • Another Good Video! : )

  • Great video ... Happy NY you all ... Warm regards from Holland

  • I am gutted, I was in Queenstown on 18th and did not know this was happening, would have been good to attend.:-(

  • @huffy336262 Shame! You should always visit Cameralabs . com and follow my social streams to find out what's happening!

  • This was cool, i wish I lived in a place like this, thank you Gordon for your photots, ive been following you since 2008 on your panasonic reviews thanks and see next year ;)

  • wow what an exciting life you lead Gordon

  • @splendid147 Er, are you being sarcastic?!

  • Beautiful video Gordon!

  • Fabulous NZ landscapes! and Gordon looks funny with his santa hat! :)))

  • As always, another great video from Mr. Gordon Lane. Thank you!

  • No film cameras?

  • @asjeot Actually there was one! At 50 seconds into the clip, the girl in the middle with a hat raising her had was using a film SLR. But the rest was digital.

  • I enjoyed watching

  • Hi Gordon,

I am a photo enthusiaste and am thinking of getting a canon 550d or a canon 600d. But am interested in the one colour selection in the picture which you want to retain and the rest of the photo is black and white. Has any of these two cameras got this feature? Thanks in advance.

  • @7479zm The 600D / T3i does have five special effects which can be applied during playback, BUT none of the Canon DSLRs offer the colour swap feature that's in the point-and-shoot models. You can chieve the effect in software on yuor computer afterwards though.

  • @cameralabs ,

Thanks Gordon, do you mean the software that comes with this camera or you mean just any photo editing software? Thanks again.

  • @7479zm No, you'd need to use something else, like Photoshop.

  • want to have a photowalk like this, :)

  • shot at 8:36 = amazing!

  • @Robellislol Eden will be very pleased to hear that!

  • Very nice, looks like a lot of fun - I should see if there's a camera club in my area.

  • This was awesome, some fantastic shots from everyone. Really liked your stuff Gordon, was always curious to see some of your photography, brilliant job!

  • @MutingSociety Thanks! I managed to fire-off a few snaps between filming the whole thing!

  • Who cares what brand - canon or nikon - getting the photography you want is the most important. Nice video - glad to see everyone was having fun and enjoying the day! -----

Thank you for sharing this with everyone... Hope to make it to NZ someday - you are so very lucky!

  • Looked like an awesome time. Inspiration for me to join a photography club and enjoy the hobby with others.

  • @benvawdrey Photowalks are a great way to have a club and pursue your hobby - I'd strongly recommend holding one!

  • Nice video. Looks like lots of fun!

  • i would have loved to join, i'm an amateur and i don't consider myself that good but everyone says i have the photographes eye, won multiple contests and so on,.... but this would have been so great as a learning experience

  • excellent vid buddy !

  • Ah I missed out by about 6 weeks.

I am from Canada and will be taking my very first overseas trip in my life, to NZ's South Island, in Jan.. Will be spending about 9 days in and around Queenstown. Will be mainly a photography trip for me... bring lots of Nikon kit along for the fun.

NZ looks like it photograph's very well! The South Island seems a lot like Canada, geographically, only all of the features are compressed in a nice (relatively) small country that has it all. Hope to run into you!

  • @ScotianLotion feel free to drop me a line when you're around, or if you have any questions about the area! I recommend joining Google+ and following people like Todd Sisson, Jason Law, Stefan Haworth and maybe even me!

  • @cameralabs I will, thanks! Done, Done, Done and Done :p

  • Beautiful pictures and place to take pictures. What a shame I'm in Switzerland to far away to join!

  • being a Nikon fan, this Canon fest was a bit unpleasant.

    jk.............. nice video

  • @kaisar1 Didn't you see Todd Sisson with his tilt-shift Nikkor lens? And Jason Law showing the bird on the back of his D3? There was lots of Nikon there!

  • @cameralabs i said i was joking, i think everyone here missed reading that in my previous comment

  • Was there a fair amount of exchange and help among the participants?

Did anyone use a Pana G3 by chance? I thought I recognised Stephen using one at 4:35.

  • @2nd3rd1st Good spot! Yes, Stephen was using a G3, and another person, Peter, was using a G1. Paul Mettmann was using a Sony NEX 5, and I was filming with a Panasonic GX1, so the mirrorless community was well-represented! As for the participants, yes there was lots of help, guidance and exchange. A very collaborative evening!

  • @cameralabs I'm a G1 user myself, great to know the G lines were well represented! I just recognise that kit lens and hood anywhere. :)

Thank you for a fun video. The few photo walks in my city are usually frequented by full-on amateurs, but I'd love to explore with some semi- and full professionals, like you did. I think I would benefit much more from it.

    Cheers!

  • Just watching the video was fun!! Being there would have been awesome! Wish you a Happy New Year, Gordon!

  • @pmgurjar Thanks, we had a great time! Happy New Year to you too!

  • Sophie took the best photos.

  • @stavit2 they were pretty good weren't they? I'll pass that onto her!

  • OK Gordon, I just decided that one day I am going to visit Queenstown.

  • @ivanmanko Wise decision! Let us know if you visit and we'll try and grab a coffee!

  • I really enjoyed this video. To bad there is no little events like this were I live.

  • @AOUxSilentWisher As far as I know, there weren't any events like this in Queenstown before either! So I decided to host one myself! Just get a bunch of friends who are into photography together and try and spread the word through local papers, social media or just word of mouth!

  • @cameralabs Ya sadly im pretty much the only photographer in this little town.

  • @AOUxSilentWisher I'm not sure where you live, but you may be surprised how many people might be interested in photography. Queenstown only has 11000 people, so it's quite small. Or organise one for the nearest decent-sized place...

  • looks like a lot of fun, Gordon.

  • @andrenj1970 Thanks, it was good fun!
