It's not as if Watson was the only one who messed up. Westwood bogeyed 3 of the last 4, Wood bogeyed the 18th, and finished one stroke behind. Goggin made 3 straight bogeys late and finished two strokes behind.
Cink made the fewest mistakes down the stretch and that's why he won.

I guess there were lots of Tom Watson fans that were really ticked off that Stewart Cink won. In Wikipedia, the Stewart Cink article had been vandalized once every 10 minutes.

one club less at 18 and watson makes history.One wonders if a caddy could have convinced him but watson is old school and makes up his own mind.

@rw5791 It always seems to happen to the older man. I remember being pissed off that Tom always beat my hero Jack Nicklaus. At Turnberry in 77 and then when he chipped in out of the rough at 17 at Pebble Beach in 82, but I grew to love Tom. Wonderful golfer and a true gentleman. I disagree with your comment about the club, his shot hit the front of the green but must have hit a hard patch. Very sad but thats life, take care man as long as we can still play this wonderful game we are ok :) XX
