@sproductiond what makes a university good is the students and alum it's connected to. and because more competitive schools will result in a higher concentration of competent students, they have a higher percentage of people in high up corporate positions--a lot of them influencing the business world. however, your average state university still has those kind of people, just not as many.

money is simply a result of successful alum who give back, and gives students more opportunities

@monaxikoalani they are 2 of the hardest schools in the world to get into, so in that sense yes it is almost like a miracle. and in terms of your future, an employer will immediately be wowed by seeing an ivy league school on your resume. that doesnt mean that other schools wont get you good jobs though. another big thing is networking. you'll meet some of the future's most successful leaders at ivies. knowing them gives the opportunity to meet certain people you would normally never get to meet

@rrudolp4 You have no clue what you are talking about. Before you make such comments you should know your facts. Harvard admits a diverse group of highly achieving students. Like any college, it tries to pick students who are a good match. It does not matter how much money your family makes. If you qualify to get in because of your efforts then it has become one of the most affordable colleges around which I know from experience. All colleges turn students down, so..

@faoust21 That is no more than most private universities in the US. Check it out. At Harvard at the undergraduate level, if admitted and the students' parents make less than $60,000, the student goes for free. The cost increases slowly after that. There are always rich kids in any school but Harvard is significantly more generous than most high ranking colleges and a majority of students receive significant grant money (not loans).

Harvard is not for everyone but less expensive than many.
