@KABLE999 Dear friend, I believe that economicaly, many parts of your large country depends on what you call "wetback". Florida, Texas, Arizona...and so on. Many american kids from those regions would not have parents that could be able to send them to school without the input of "wetback". It's like an ecosystem (do you know this word?), where everyone need each other to survive. Have great life.
im an apache...and all indigenous people can survive without you white demons...we did it before, we still do it now and we will do it again! and im talking for my brothers and sisters of this continent.....i dont need you to survive... we tried that and we almost became extinct fucktard!
@KABLE999 Thanks for your response. I do know that you have been kicked out of you own lands by the white invasion, the same invader that did not understood you. No, i cannot understand your pain, but younger generations are openning their eyes little by little and removing the lies thaught to them by their own people. The pain and suffering your people have experienced won't diseaper overnight. Cape Diem.
and i want to make something clear! when i say wetback...i mean the white man period! i am not talking about my brothers and sisters of mexico..or the nations in canada! mexicans are healing from the invasion as well and we will all survive without the help of the white man!
The movies was great. Also watched it in class and had to write an essay about it last week.didnt think I would like it. It's a great story of immigration. Wish Republicans, ignorants and the Selfish would watch this. What if that was them??? People forget to remember they will be judged. Oh God when will the good stop suffering?
I leave for Guatemala tommorow evening, it'll be my first time ever outside of the developed and anglophone worlds, this film touched me the first time I saw it so I've decided to watch it again before I depart. Great film
That's an indigenous dialect. The indigenous people don't all understand each other cuz there's many different dialects. But Guatemala's main language is Spanish like every Latin American country. Latin American Spanish is called a Spanish dialect since it's not exactly like the Spaniards anymore. In fact, all of the countries have different accents and use some different words in their Spanish. Everywhere in Mexico Central America and South America there are indigenous and mostly Latinos.
good ass movie mane from the perspective of central america and what they face in terms of discrimination just for a chance at a better life here in the states
my spanish class is watching it too but only on fridays and i have football games on fridays..all i gotta say thank god for football this movie is boring
@chuyuy10 You're right. It's much more exciting to wear tights, "grab and tackle" other guys and slap each others ass after a good play than watch a movie.
@Graffitti74...really? im just sayin the movie is boring nd u had insult a great game..coming from someone with graffitti in their name,u should get into sports instead of vandalizing others' property
I like how in school they have good movies, I mean when the teacher tells us that were gonna watch a movie that we never heard of (like this one) the entire class think is gonna suck, but after a couple of moments its really interesting and good and when the teacher stops it, the entire class quickly reacts and say oh come on, don't stop it now, I wanna know what happens.
I heard many things about this movie. Pretty cool movie so far. My wife is Guatemalan and they dont speak that way. hmmmm. Interesting. Its rather different accent than the rest of Central America.
¡Mil gracias! I show this video every year to my Spanish I class. Since the immigration issue has heated up in the United States, this movie has become more topical. I wish anyone who was against amnesty could see this movie to find out what so many people endure to come to a land of plenty.
Nava had to film much of this movie in Mexico because Guatemala was still ruled by the same CIA-orchestrated military dictatorship that led Arturo Xuncax and his family to their deaths and that left Enrique broken and disillusioned in the end. The border is officially "militarized" now, and the journey remains as awful and degrading as a long crawl through a rat-filled tunnel to life that may be no greater than the one they left.
@Guatemalasociety tell the whole story: Fidel Castro was trying to export revolution to latin america so to preserve democracy and keep out communism we backed whoever was anti communist, the left likes to conveniently forget the numerous violent communist insurgencies in latin america
Remember kids: if in doubt, support Fascists! It's the American way! He may be a son of bitch but goddamn it hes OUR son of a bitch! I don't care who you have to kill or torture, just don't let no godamned faggoty pinko communist in office no matter how the people vote! They're just brown skinners anyways, not like they matter!
thank you so much for posting this film. i can't begin to explain how important this film is to my culture. especially now. having it available like this for the world to see will make differences.. and educate.. where it is so importantly needed. this is the strongest, most effective method of understanding illegal immigration ever. my sincere thanks for your time to post this.

Thank you for posting my favorite movie. I plan to show it to my high school honors students in May during the week many will be taking AP exams and this will help those who are absent keep up!
The wealth and power of the American Empire, the West, is predicated upon the brutal conquest, genocide, enslavement of inummerable peoples to this day. Wtached this film twenty years ago and little has changed, in fact its got worse
Illegal immigration is a tax on the working poor and has kept wages low for decades.
Legal immigration via mostly fraudulent worker visa programs is bringing in 125,000 foreign workers EACH MONTH and is wiping out the middle class - Visa workers are not smarter or harder working, they are younger & cheaper.
We need an immigration moratorium and to make E Verify mandatory & stop re electing traitors that try to shove another amnesty up our as**s. Join Numbersusa, read Vdare(dot)com
I saw this movie long time ago on channel 9. I am glad to see that it is on YouTube. Thanks for posting the whole movie. Do you know where I can buy or order on line this movie in a DVD. I would love to have this movie to share with family and friends. After seeing this movie It makes you feel so greatful that you live in America The Land of the free. It is so sad when his sister dies of the rats and how their adventure sometimes happy and sad. I hope to see all chapters El Norte
How sad. Very very sad. The injustices shall come to light just like Jesus the Christ said.........all in time............in the end..................these poor ones are in God's heart. God bless all those who suffer from such cruelty and being take "advantage of" .......how sad but great Hope !
Awesome movie. Tremenda pelicula.
Just watched the Criterion Collection Blu-Ray for the first time today. Excellent cinematography, sometimes surreal with the dream sequences, and severed head. It just goes to show that people who strive for money don't really get true freedom. Enrique and Rosa risked being killed in Guatemala, they saw too much poverty in Mexico, now in San Diego/Los Angeles they finally find jobs as waiters/cleaning lady but are they really free? They wanted the typical "American Dream"..................
i think in some ways history has moved on and El Norte is a historical piece about the oppression and human rights abuses in Central America. The border of the early 1980s is different from now. Also, Guatemala and many Latin American countries are different now.
Yes I agree with yu on that, Guatemala along with ,many other latin American countries have changed. In Fact its so different that now or days Mexico is newly industrialized and Guatemala is a flawed democracy, meaning it scored higher then most regime and half of all thrid world countries together put together, its one really different now and also human rights have inproved greatly.
Thank you so much for uploading this video, my precious person recommended it to me. Now I live safely in some place... I could know what he wanted to tell me.
