This is the best one u can get but u can get sheaper one if u buy them with lower cpu and hdd. Ur choice if u want it or not.

@tallperson117 well battery life is not so good since its a gaming machine. u can like do 1 hours at max 1:30 hours if idle. it handles every game i throw at it and doesnt weight that much. i recommend this :)

@SalsaG93 i ordered it 2 days ago from compusa.com... i got the G73JW X1 for 1500.. its the same as the G73JW A1 that costs 1800. The only difference is 500giga hard drive. I thought 300 dollars is not worth 500g hard drive because the same hard drive only costs 35 dollars brand new and you can always get an external drive for 50-100 dollars.

@SalsaG93 yeah thats the G73 JH its the older version and you can actually buy it for 1200 dollars at bestbuy... it has less ram 6giga instead of 8 and a weaker graphics card which is 1 giga... but still a good laptop from what i read. i just got mine and i love it.

I got mine about 2 months ago and it's an amazing piece of kit! If got the ATI Radeon HD 5870 though as the they weren't available with a NIVIDIA Graphics card then. Got it from a place in Birmingham that specialises in ASUS products. Great machines though with hardly any complaints.
Only thing I will say is that the keyboard can miss keystrokes whn typing quickly.
i5 vs i7 big difference in games? I live in Europe so It's hard to find the i7 720QX version of the G73 laptop, the only option is to get the i5 450m version of the laptop. Question is: Is it only for multi-tasking that the quad version is better, or is it on games too cuz i'v heard that atm Dual Cores are better than quads.
Mine came with an ATI Radeon graphics card instead of an Nvidia card. I wonder why. I bought it at Best Buy yesterday. The guy told me this was the newer model and the other Asus I had my eye on was discontinued. The weight of the machine is heavier then my crappy old HP Palivion. Had to get use to it. I didn't care for the the lack of two buttons with the touchpad... instead they give us one. Other then that this is a great machine.
@Saeng1021 turbo boost is basically in all computers with inter i5 or i7, basically, when ur running an application like a high quality game that takes up ram and stuff, it immediately sets processor to overdrive. this makes some computers have lower battery life but way higher performance
@pofak1234 actually the nvidia gtx460 is more recent, however, because its more recent, you can say its going through "trial" phase, meaning that as of now, some games work better with ati radeon 5870M. but dont worry nvidia is still better. in no less than a year or so nvidia graphics will pick up and games will work better with it. so if ur planning for the future, stick with nvidia.

To install the ATI Reference drivers and not the ASUS Drivers on a G73JH you will need to uninstall all previous .NET and reinstall each and every single .NET Redistributable from Microsoft all the way to the most recent release. After doing all of that you can install Catalyst 10.7 Drivers as of 8-10-2010 which do work with a G73.
@Ixionic ive been having GSOD for a couple of games now after 40 minutes. Grey lines screens, system freezes. I tried the latest drivers from ati, but still no luck, i downgraded to factory, still no luck, i tried every possible driver but still no luck. And i bought this comp a day ago, how ironic. Something that they can take and put right into their backpacks. I always see (get a desktop, much better) Desktops are more powerful and cheaper, but I doubt people want to carry something that big when going anywhere else.
I've done my fair share of video editing with it (Two of my videos, Resident evil 5, and Megaman X8) as well photoshop and gaming itself.
I'm pretty sure you'll be good with it for 3D modeling, I did a bit of modeling with my old inspiron 1520. So you'll be more than ok with this for that :3
@BestfanX Agreed I have both a power house desktop and this laptop. But since I am in the military I cant lug my desktop around everywere I go. FYI yes I did build my desktop and it rocks. It also weighs about 60lbs or so. My laptop weighs like 7lbs.

Yea, many people tend to say "Just get a PC" and I tell them how my brother with his i7 Quad desktop, that weighs around 30LBs, is quite troublesome to carry around when he travels, along with his monitor....his cords...keyboard, mouse...games...and the tower itself.
I ordered from onhop and it comes along with a free gaming backpack and mouse, so really? No trouble for traveling! Great deal for $1600(+ tax)

I use it for college work with all the Adobe stuff which work fantasticly well (Better than the college macs), At break time and lunch time I sit in the college library or dinner halls playing whatever game springs to mind, and at home I use it for whatever it's needed for (MSN, Website Browsing etc..). I also have played Command & Conquer 3 at 35,000 ft above the atlantic ocean.. Now that's something that is awesome :D
In terms of performance, desktops are always better. You cant overclock a laptop very far. If you have a need to game everywhere you go, your best bet is to get some help, and a nice laptop.
I either go big, or I go home. I don't downgrade. When I buy a car, it's the top, fully loaded model. When I buy a laptop, same thing. When I build a computer from scratch, it's top tier components . Never settle.

@SalsaG93 i ordered it 2 days ago from compusa.com... i got the G73JW X1 for 1500.. its the same as the G73JW A1 that costs 1800. The only difference is 500giga hard drive. I thought 300 dollars is not worth 500g hard drive because the same hard drive only costs 35 dollars brand new and you can always get an external drive for 50-100 dollars.

@SalsaG93 yeah thats the G73 JH its the older version and you can actually buy it for 1200 dollars at bestbuy... it has less ram 6giga instead of 8 and a weaker graphics card which is 1 giga... but still a good laptop from what i read. i just got mine and i love it.

I got mine about 2 months ago and it's an amazing piece of kit! If got the ATI Radeon HD 5870 though as the they weren't available with a NIVIDIA Graphics card then. Got it from a place in Birmingham that specialises in ASUS products. Great machines though with hardly any complaints.
Only thing I will say is that the keyboard can miss keystrokes whn typing quickly.

i5 vs i7 big difference in games? I live in Europe so It's hard to find the i7 720QX version of the G73 laptop, the only option is to get the i5 450m version of the laptop. Question is: Is it only for multi-tasking that the quad version is better, or is it on games too cuz i'v heard that atm Dual Cores are better than quads.

Mine came with an ATI Radeon graphics card instead of an Nvidia card. I wonder why. I bought it at Best Buy yesterday. The guy told me this was the newer model and the other Asus I had my eye on was discontinued. The weight of the machine is heavier then my crappy old HP Palivion. Had to get use to it. I didn't care for the the lack of two buttons with the touchpad... instead they give us one. Other then that this is a great machine.

@Saeng1021 turbo boost is basically in all computers with inter i5 or i7, basically, when ur running an application like a high quality game that takes up ram and stuff, it immediately sets processor to overdrive. this makes some computers have lower battery life but way higher performance

@pofak1234 actually the nvidia gtx460 is more recent, however, because its more recent, you can say its going through "trial" phase, meaning that as of now, some games work better with ati radeon 5870M. but dont worry nvidia is still better. in no less than a year or so nvidia graphics will pick up and games will work better with it. so if ur planning for the future, stick with nvidia.

@pofak1234 the nvidia gtx460..so far only selected few nvidias are 3d capable and this is one of them.3d gaming is taking off and itd be a waste of money for those of you who are planning to choose the jh over the jw model.only thing is the g73jw doesnt have a 120hz monitor to support 3d images but u could plug this baby into a 3d tv or projector.

Omg.. This is just sooo stupid.. Yes you all should just get a desktop with decent specs... Why would I pay nearly 2000 bucks for a laptop... I mean thats just fucking nuts and crazy.. I always take my Big Tower and 21" fullHD Display and my fullsize keyboard and large mousepad with my wireless razer mamba with me everywhere when i want to LAN. Its the way to Roll!!?

To install the ATI Reference drivers and not the ASUS Drivers on a G73JH you will need to uninstall all previous .NET and reinstall each and every single .NET Redistributable from Microsoft all the way to the most recent release. After doing all of that you can install Catalyst 10.7 Drivers as of 8-10-2010 which do work with a G73.

I tried the latest drivers from ati, but still no luck, i downgraded to factory, still no luck, i tried every possible driver but still no luck. And i bought this comp a day ago, how ironic. The EAX will only work if you download the drivers from the ASUS Website for both the Creative Audigy and Realtek V6 Drivers.

I've had mine since around April, and I gotta say... this beast rocks my socks.
Also to those who keep saying to just get a desktop instead...Shove it. A good majority of people want a good gaming laptop that they can take with them to wherever they go (School, friends)
Something that they can take and put right into their backpacks. I always see (get a desktop, much better) Desktops are more powerful and cheaper, but I doubt people want to carry something that big when going anywhere else.

I've done my fair share of video editing with it (Two of my videos, Resident evil 5, and Megaman X8) as well photoshop and gaming itself.
I'm pretty sure you'll be good with it for 3D modeling, I did a bit of modeling with my old inspiron 1520. So you'll be more than ok with this for that :3

@BestfanX Agreed I have both a power house desktop and this laptop. But since I am in the military I cant lug my desktop around everywere I go. FYI yes I did build my desktop and it rocks. It also weighs about 60lbs or so. My laptop weighs like 7lbs.

Yea, many people tend to say "Just get a PC" and I tell them how my brother with his i7 Quad desktop, that weighs around 30LBs, is quite troublesome to carry around when he travels, along with his monitor....his cords...keyboard, mouse...games...and the tower itself.
I ordered from onhop and it comes along with a free gaming backpack and mouse, so really? No trouble for traveling! Great deal for $1600(+ tax)

I use it for college work with all the Adobe stuff which work fantasticly well (Better than the college macs), At break time and lunch time I sit in the college library or dinner halls playing whatever game springs to mind, and at home I use it for whatever it's needed for (MSN, Website Browsing etc..). I also have played Command & Conquer 3 at 35,000 ft above the atlantic ocean.. Now that's something that is awesome :D

In terms of performance, desktops are always better. You cant overclock a laptop very far. If you have a need to game everywhere you go, your best bet is to get some help, and a nice laptop.
