'' Suzy'' is so chirpy, childish, spoilt, silly, irritating and terribly, terribly immature, she actually comes across as having some sort of learning disability.
I absolutely LOVE this film. When me and my sisters were young, my mum used to sit down and watch this with us and we loved it so much and always will. Way ahead of its time by this world's standards and will always be timeless. So understated, doesnt bludgeon the life out of you and tragic and sad all the while, but gives a wonderful life lesson.
Thank you so much DragonflyNoir for the post. Much appreciated.
Love that country house (Connecticut?) - great decor, one of my favorite movie sets, like mid century modern meets country rustic (not too rustic). And an ISLAND kitchen, better than the "gourmet" kichens in today's mcmansions. What do they say about everything old being new again....Think I saw those same cabinets and the copper range hood in a house for sale in suburban Philadelphia (Elkins Park, where you WOULD see stuff like that)
I think Dan O'Herlihy looked much better without a mustache. He was such a gifted character actor. Of course this 50's classic drama has MANY fine performers in it's cast (both leading & character). Top notch in EVERY dept! THANKS for posting the whole flick for us to enjoy! You've MADE my day & my week! CHEERS! :-)
The play Lora describes to that man at 6:03 that she wants to star in sure sounds a lot like the plot of this movie itself. I wonder if anyone noticed that.
Here's a perfect example of why I say Steve was about as interesting as a piece of toast. And just not very believable. I hate how he says: "Hello Lora. Congratulations." It's like he's phoning it in or something LOL.
I've seen a woman dressed in a 50's dress couple of moths back. She was standing at the bus stop with her 7 or 8 year old son and EVERYBODY was staring at her. Not a "What the heck is she wearing" type of stare but more like a " Wow, she looks so ... refreshing and beautiful " type of stare. Seriously I wish these type of summer dresses, pearl necklace and colored pumps would come back in style. They were beautiful, refreshing, and gorgeous. Anybody agrees ?
Eleven years passed, right? Susan is sixteen and Sarah Jane is eighteen now. They were six and eight years old when this movie began. It began in 1947 and it skipped to 1958.
To deny who we are is wrong. My father was an SS soldier occupying my mothers' country during WWII. I love and honor him the same as my mothers side of my family.
It's amazing, how still now to this day, neither side can truly accept us biracial people.......blacks as well as white can't accept the fact that we are both mixed together.
@buckinray18 Is that really the message you got from this? Sad! I have biracial cousins and love them just as much as any of my other family members. I even have a step mother that is Indian. You need to understand we didn't invent the concept of race and no one dislikes you. You have to love and accept yourself first. That's what Sarah Jane needed to do.
@spucy lol I do love and accept myself, that's what many people who don't like people mixing races hate! LOL
Look, I've had people say they dislike me b/c I'm mixed, it's not something I'm dreaming up. I did not get that from the movie either. Please, all the sympathy crap is annoying, I love every part of what I am.
But I don't think you'd understand......maybe your biracial cousins do.
i cant believe she ditched her photographer bf for a director she really knew what was best for her career didnt she , still i find her stupid for leaving him he was so good to her .
@optimisticbabe Yes, he certainly did give that impression but I believe it was for her own good that he did not want her to pursue her career as an actress because it wasn't "real" and here in this scene she is talking about wanting something so much which at the end is not worth it. But he could have voiced his concerns in a more gentle manner, definitely.
@crayzigurl My mom and Fraternal Grandmother and cousins and aunts were like Annie. Went through so much but held on to their faith and decency! My GOD...we need that now!
Carey Mulligan looks a bit like Sandra Dee.

I'd love to brush out that hair of hers...it sits like crenellated candyfloss..
.also wipe off the mask of foundation, lipstick etc...
.she always appears to me to be false and haughty....can't stand LT
