Hey, what a beautiful bass, it's a reissue, right? I have a contemporary bass and it sounds pretty much like yours. Are you using flatwound strings? Paul used to do it (and still does), so in case you are not using that kind of strings, I recommend you to buy them. Then you will get the real deal.
@TheBeetools i have a B-icon series Hofner bass... but it still sounds 99% close to the real ones :D the other 1% is for a little rattle when i play the E note... :l
@Icymarky0123 Hi !!! Yes of course the contemporary is less expensive , but you'll never get the feeling by not having the real decoy !!! Sorry my friend but life is cruel ... LOL
i bout a B bass and when i got it i was dispoitned when i saw it did have the same sunburst it darker almost red kinda and i whant that kinda of light sunbrust is there anythang i can do to get that color cuse im just 11 and can't aford that one
@jpasdi1999 If it makes you feel any better the BBass finish is closer to Paul's 1961 Hofner model (check out the Revolution video to see). It's not quite the same, but it's close - and the sound is almost dead on. The BBass vs the Epi or the Contemporary is always going to sound closest to the v63.
Ok. Thanks for your answer. I just wondered what your reason was. McCartney uses a pick and I just assumed that this guy was being authentic. Surely there are lots of greast player who who a pick, even swapping from pick to fingers for different styles. anyway, nice discussing with you.
@bluegrasssingingman youre wrong, picks and finger walking give the bass a different tone, as well as other instruments (flamenco/spanish guitar, banjo, bass, mandolin etc). picks give the bass a brighter tone. it has nothing to do with talent. paul mccartney had amazing bass lines and mostly played with a pick or his thumb. it was his signature tone. some people like the sound of a pick, some don't. talent comes in different shapes and forms. do some research before you open your mouth.
@bluegrasssingingman No one? okay fine - John & Paul did not sell their songs to Jacko. They never owned their publishing to begin with and a takeover bid in 1969 fell apart due to the in-fighting over Apple.
On to the rest - McCartney can play both upright and fretless and he has. He's also recorded with a 5-string and of course the Hofner and Rick. Slap is a different technique and style. Apples and oranges. By the way - it's Beatles with an A. Talent? I'd like to hear YOUR music.
@bluegrasssingingman Speaking as a professional musician of 20 years I feel confident in saying you're way off base. Different techniques are just that: different. Some may be easier to learn than others, but NONE are easy to master. Secondly, when making unwarranted attacks on others, you might want to at least get your spelling and grammar correct to avoid looking like a complete fool and ignoramus. Can anybody say douchebag?
@bluegrasssingingman Beatles is spelled with an "A". It's hard to understand how one of the most prolific and well-respected bassists and songwriters of the 20th century "sucks." McCartney never sold the Beatles music to anyone. He was horrified to find Michael had bought the rights to the Beatles catalog and tried several times, unsuccessfully, to buy it from Michael. Allowed is not spelled "aloud." "Then" is not the same as "than" and "than using your fingers" is not a sentence, idiot.
@bluegrasssingingman dude, for your information, ive been playing guitar for 5 years now, and piano for over 8 years. if you bothered to look at my profile, you'd know that.
If you know your beatles history you'll know paul only bought a hoffner because it looked the same upside down when he played left handed and it was the cheapest available. it is NOT a good bass guitar, hence why paul used fenders, and rickenbackers later on, he only uses the hoffner now for its image
I'm thinking of buying an old hofner bass but i'm not sure of where to get one .There are no stores around here that cary any hofners as far as I know. i live in British Columbia. If you have any ideas please let me know. thanx

Hi wisesatyr72 !!! As you probably know Hofner Basses guitars are Hand made even the paint job. Also they are legendary ,so somebody has to pay for it !!!
Just keep it up, keep playing and try to found out WHAT makes it sound bad and then try to fix it :) It is all about finding out what sounds good on the bass and what don't.

Hi PurplePushPin !!! I'm also able to play with my fingers, but you have to keep in mind that Paul Mc Cartney with the Beatles was playing with a pick and he wasn't a bad Bass Player for that. I'm playing with flat wounded strings and many times it sounds better with a pick. I hope you will be able to make the difference !!! Is it OK with you ???
