  • We get so locked into this "Lord, liar or lunatic" thing that we fail to see the fourth possibility. LEGEND. Through no fault of his own, Jesus could have been built up into this man/god character when he was really just a great teacher. This may not be true, but it discredits there only being THREE choices.

  • From Personal Experience, I truly understand your frustration with religion. Please don't let the historical errors of man get in the way of your future walk with Christ. At the core, it's always been about a personal relationship with Him. I challenge you to bring these questions to Christ in prayer. Ask Him to reveal the truth. You will be surprised what happens when you depend on Him for answers and not the historical errors of man. I'm just sayn'

  • you know why i cant belieive in christianity. what it is now nothing compared to what the original teachings were. the catholic church changed parts of the bible to fit what they belieived was right. not what jesus thought was right. and then after that now in the bible they try to cover up the parts that are strictly forbidden nowadays like the the part where they talk about gays or the part where they say slavery is ok.

  • Christians - ask yourself. How long can you tell yourself that all that matters is John 3:16. For god loved the world so so so much, that he gave his only begotten son to the world so that anyone who believed in him will have eternal bliss.

If former evangelist christians (read hardcore christians) like robert price & bart erhman figured something is wrong... you should really think hard about your 'faith' and stop being so disgusting.

  • To obtain a doctorate in theology (& gain the PhD), all you need to do is fully immerse yourself in the bible & absorb every excuse for every verse in the bible (grounded in all these centuries by hundreds of apologists). If God killed millions of people in 2000BC, that's ok - they were primitive ungodly satan worshippers.

Thereafter call yourself Dr Adrian Rogers and tell the world that the bible is correct from cover to cover. Word for word.

  • This Dr Adrian Rogers is full of sh*t although he is an incredible public speaker for his careful choice of words and delivery.

Ignorant f*ck. Jesus did not split the centuries into AD & BC. Some monk in later century did. He extrapolated to the time when he thought Jesus was born and choose to call the century AD from that point onwards.

  • As pointed out below, there is a 4th choice. Legend/Myth.

Jesus was someone who existed in the distant past. He was an unorthodox jewish rabbi who interpreted the scriptures in a different way namely the repentance of sins. He was also a healer and believed in the apocalypse (ending of the world). Then he got in trouble with the local authorities and was killed.

Years later, history became legend, legend became myth. People started to write about him and deitified him as a god.

  • @450jordan Ehrman has too much credibility (with me at least) for your denials to have any effect. He is honest in his approach and in his conclusions No scholar? I believe he has a PhD.

  • @k0smon PhD's don't mean squat. It doesn't matter how many letters someone has after their name; it doesn't even matter if they're an angel from heaven; the only thing that matters is WHO they say Yeshua HaMashiach is. If they say anything else other than what 1 Corinthians 15 states, they are to be anathema (damned) (Galatians 1:8).

  • @450jordan One thing that I appreciate about Ehrman is his honesty. He went in to bible school to bolster his fundamentalists beliefs, but came out of bible school(s) convinced that just the opposite was true. He still believes that Jesus was a real character. I do not. I believe he was a composite person put together for Constantine's new religion. So I don't believe everything Bart says, after all.

  • This guy was honest until 1:30. I'm a Christian, but I'm also a budding historian and can say with conviction that that statement is not true. If it were, we surely wouldn't need faith such as we do – such as the divinely inspired word of God tells us we do. It is by grace through faith that we are cleansed by the redeeming blood of Christ and baptized by the Spirit, by faith we are grafted into the Body of Christ, not by knowing an historical fact by its empirical evidence.

  • @cbrusharmy Only to an existing believer can we say that "there is no greater evidence manifest.." This won't work on an unbeliever and it won't count as evidence. Thankfully, for us, we are created with the ability to believe and the desire to believe something.

  • @cbrusharmy Yes, when it comes down to it, it is by grace through faith we are saved, but that does not take away from the fact that there is a lot of empirical evidence for God and Jesus being the Messiah. We are not saved by it, but it is there. Faith doesn't have to be blind. One being the Gospel of Jesus Christ laid out in Genesis chapter 5, as shown in the following video below.

  • LUNATIC lol

  • The existence of Jesus Christ is undisputed from any historical reference and His resurrection is equally supported. Christ professed that He is the Son of God then made it His life's mission, through His sacrifice, to establish a new covenant. His death and resurrection replaced the current day's method of priests being the intercessory between God and man. No other historically based, religious founder, may lay claim to God's approval by being resurrected to defeat death.

  • That is why I believe in Christ. No one else can lay claim to that level of divinity. God's love is not a 24/7 get out of jail free card. He created us with the freedom to love Him or not. Einstein was a Pantheist believing we are all mystically part of the same universe. He was in denial of the existence of a God that loves and judges. Of course, the Pantheistic view on life leaves the door open for anyone to do anything without consequences - a convenient way to live.

  • Jesus Christ didn't come to establish the Catholics, Baptists, Calvinists, Presbyterians, etc. He came to Earth to offer us a way, a life that stands apart from man's vision of goodness. I am one of the biggest cynics you'll meet but there came a time when I needed more than my own empty theories and ways of existing. Since I made that choice to follow Christ, my life has changed in ways that a non-believer could not relate to. I promise, a decision for Christ is Life Changing.

  • Amen brother/and or/sister!

  • @jhiggedit Well said, GOD bless you.

  • @jhiggedit Amen! I attend a Fundamentalist Baptist Church but I take a very C.S. Lewis approach to Christianity. I came from a largely unchurched background and was an atheist until just a few years ago. After throughly investigating the issue there was no other conclusion, in my mind, one can draw and be honest. Christianity is the only philosophy that offers an answer as to how to solve the problem of our separation from God. Jesus is the ONLY bridge-gap between us and a Holy God.

  • @Billosophical777 We are only separated from God by the way we think. Since God is everywhere present, there is no possible way we can be 'separated' from Him. God is all-powerful, and needs no help from holy spirits or saviors to take care of His own creation.

  • @jhiggedit See the background stories of the gods, Mithra, Krisha, and Horus. Note the great similarities of the stories of all their lives with the story of Jesus? Just maybe, they are all figureheads, and not real in fact.

After all, we have the Creator; all-powerful, all-knowing and loving. Do we really need all that excess theology to muddy up the relationship? GOD IS, and he is sufficient.

  • Look how wealthy this asshole is also. He's just another preacher with yet another sophic way of asking for money.

  • @Zaphkielonoma u dont kno what ur talkin about im prayin foru

  • It is a shame that this man can stand there in front of everyone. There is two more options also; The catholics made Jesus a poster child for catholicism to distract people from the fact that catholics worship Isis, Horus and Seb, and Nimrod. By the way there is a monument to Nimrod's penis in washington D.C.

  • Excellent teaching! I like the ONLY 3 choices!

    Lord,Liar or Lunatic

  • Jesus is the 4th L

    1) Jesus is not a liar

    2)Jesus is not a lunatic

    3)Jesus is not Lord

    4)Jesus IS a LEGEND

  • sorry 99 you don't "get it". The 3 points come to the truth of the statement not post an "opinion" like the moon is made of cheese, no it is to the point. If you knew the statements of and about Jesus in the word of God you'd realize there can only be 3 choices. Jesus made it clear I Am THE WAY

  • During the youthful period of mankind's spiritual evolution human fantasy created gods in man's own image, who, by the operations of their will were supposed to determine, or at any rate to influence, the phenomenal world. Man sought to alter the disposition of these gods in his own favour by means of magic and prayer. The idea of God in the religions taught at present is a sublimation of that old concept of the gods.

  • Its anthropomorphic character is shown, for instance, by the fact that men appeal to the Divine Being in prayers and plead for the fulfillment of their wishes.

  • @hartsongjoy Bart Ehrman, bible scholar, adds a 4th point to the mix. He believes that Jesus never claimed to be God, therefor, the fourth "L" is Legend.

  • , hence the 3 options yes it is true or a lie (a lie by knowing it is a lie but telling it anyway, liar or a lie because you believe a lie to be true and make your self out a lunatic. Legend is just an "L" word making no sese to the logic of the premise.

  • As I said, JESUS WAS A LUNATIC! If you can prove I'm wrong then I'll apologize!

  • By the way, I should have first said, it would appear that he was a lunatic by the way the bible portrayed him, BUT in reality he was a MYTH! That's where I say if you can prove me wrong I'll apologize!!

  • hey 99 Are you really saying there was no "historic Jesus"?Myth like in "made up?" Surely you jest. Historic record bears out over and over the truth that Christ walked the earth. The only dispute was He the Son of God? And because He was He was able to also be the Lamb of God that taking away the sin of the world!

  • You haven't done any research in this area have you? hmm...lol! You should consider it unless your married and have kids in which case I could understand not having the time!

  • Research this! This "Legend" you talk about changed my life December 9th 1971and that's just one life! In over 38 years of being a born again Christian I have personally met hundred's of people changed by this same Jesus and have heard thousands of testimonies of changed lives. This so called legend is real and I wish I could communicate that truth to you in a way that changed me. In the books of Acts is my champion.

  • cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms.

(Albert Einstein, Obituary in New York Times, 19 April 1955)

  • The Apostle Paul who believing himself to be right was persecuting the believers until his life was changed by the living Christ. I can only pray you met Him too. As far as research there are several good expounders I could recommend if you wanted to research you position better, as for me I have found Him to be the Christ the Son of the Living God!

  • He is Lord, has been and always will be! Some things are true even when we think they're not.

  • and some things are false, no matter how badly we want them to be true. religion is one of those things.

  • LORD

  • Nope! Jesus is the 4th L which is Legend! You gave it a good attempt with Lord though

  • well i have a new question, this man is a liar or a lunatic?

  • Na, he's the 4th "L" that Christians don't want to admit to and that is 4) LEGEND so please pass this info around when the opportunity presents itself!

    Peace

  • Im agree and you have the science by your side. But the messege is more important than the messenger, and people who realy read tha book know that.

  • For those interested in this argument, it was first put forth by CS Lewis in his book "Mere Christianity". There are a couple of levels where this argument fails, the most obvious of which is that Jesus could have been misquoted on his divinity.

  • I know everyone has an opinion but I'm a true believer in what he's teaching - the Word of God, true from cover to cover.

  • Do you then believe that 1 Corinthians 11:5-6 should be applied. If so I hope that there was no prayer at this event because the woman at 0:16 is in trouble.

  • Who's teaching? Dr Rogers? If that who you mean well, he made a mistake on the "L" . He forgot the most important one the 4th

    4) LEGEND which is what the claim that Jesus being divine was!

  • @jhiggedit "True from cover to cover". That must be why renown bible scholar Bart Ehrman says in his book "Jesus, Interrupted", "... the biblical text, ... ,is chock full of discrepancies, many of them irreconcilable." He goes on to call the bible the word of man, not the word of God. Looks like your faith may have been misplaced!

  • @jhiggedit true from cover to cover??

Wow, Numbers 31:7, 31:17-18 must be an event that actually took place. That Moses commanded the rape of those Midianites girls because God said so. You must be so proud with your bible.

Oh hang on, I'm sorry. I obviously did not read the bible in its proper context! Those Midianites were obviously beyond salvation & redemption. It is better to slay them all than to allow them to keep sinning. :-)

  • @Anonymous1197 Moses did not command the raping of women...This says that the virgins were spared because they would not continue the seed of the Midianites if they had never slept with a Midianite man.

  • This guy is full of shit

  • Yep!
