Ok....why do people talk out of the butt? people didn't have video like they do now or a dojo on everystreet! They past down teqni. that are proven to work. and hid the meanings, they also pick the teqni. that would best repesent the principle of a given move read the past masters!
i'd like to see guy -and all the other people who do this kata like him- doing this in a real battlefield 400 years ago in feudal japan... this is ridiculous. the katas have their sense if you do them properly, that means if you do them in a way wich allows you to have a realistic bunkai. this... well, it is just ridiculous. and it's not a coincidence this is made by a modern karate style: shotokan, wich born in 1936... a lot of battles in 1936, yeah, sure...
Hey, we're all still waiting for your "bunkai." When are you going to put it up? You need a partner to disect a kata by the way tough guy (that's kinda the definition of bunkai- look it up :-) Oh, and while your at it, why don't you research your karate. Shotokan was adapted from Okinawan Te (14th century), which was brought there from China in the form of kempo (kung fu), which was practiced by, well, the shaolin monks more than 4000 years ago... but I'm sure you were just joking anyway :-)
very funny sarcasm, but very fool, too.i won't waste my time with the usual karateka who thinks his style is the best of all, who thinks his style is the most ancient of all, and boring statements like these ones...i will be very brief, then you may even answer to my reply, but i won't reply anymore: karate shotokan was developed by funakoshi gichin and yoshitaka, from the second half of 1800 to the first half of 1900. so, you'd better consider again your "4000 years ago" and your "14th century"
just look to a shaolin monk and to a shotokan-karateka: if you see any similarities, any common root, please let me know which they are, i am so curious... then, about my comment about his hard movements, please try to use such hard techniques against a good non-shotokan karateka. i am curious about that, too. good bye.
I don't practice Shotokan karate, and yeah, it was founded with that name in 1936, but was taught years before. There is no such thing as a "best" style, only one that best suits the individual. Ah yes, still wondering what "style" you practice... Oh! and if you can't see any commonalities between different martial arts styles, then you're not worth anyone's time. It's sad that you spend so much time bad mouthing what other people do when they only do it for their own happiness and fulfillment.
Kata are formal exercises, not battlefield techniques. real application wouldn't look like this at all, it's just training. and no one used karate on the battlefield 400 years ago...they used swords... I could chat about that all day, but unfortunately you don't want to have a normal conversation. You'd rather argue about it. So take care, have a nice day.
My katas are the hardest! Now try jumping in the air
and dive forward, roll and do a sudden hand stand on 1 finger and split in mid air. Also, our fighting techniques are very effective. Throw sand in the eyes,
kick the nuts, punch the throat, and bite off the nose. If it does not work. Take your shoes and socks off. Go to a fighting stance, turn around slowly and run for your life!
You said it man, and that kata is really freakin' hard to do properly. Personally, I like the way we do it now a little better, flows more, but this is quite something to watch. Traditional karate will never die, just like old-school punk rock, but it sure is hard to find nowadays.
People should learn from the old footage like this. Where doing a Kata rested on one's pride, or his love for the art; doing it justice. I'm seeing tons of weak; pre-school kata from so called *pick any degree* black belts
I don't get it we practice it like that at my dojo

NOTICE how there is no mae-geri kick as there is in many 'traditional' Shotokan classes. Shows you how little bunkai they actually understand.

SOOOO much disrespect for martial arts.
True MA practitioners appreciate this and absorb the knowledge. And as for Kata - its a fighting sequence to help you master your defense skills.

Shotokan was the dojo name not the style, Shotokai was the organization name.
