In 1936- English Gov. appeased Hitler & self-disarmed. Churchill said Hitler would attack, so was called a War Monger. A hopeless situation for a disarmed England! Did E. abdicate & fake a roll to position himself to mitigate harsh subjugation of England in future? In 1940, did his words & dangerous wandering from Paris to Provence to Portugal, offer himself as “bait”, hoping to delay Hitler’s invasion past summer & radar setup?- Hitler did delay. --Did Edward's desperate acts save Britain?
If Edward VIII was indeed a trator to his country, itis because he did have enough courage to shake loose the Yankee Whore and take up his country's cause as an ally of Germany, or at least to keep his country neutral in the comming struggle on the Continent. Todays Great Brtiain would be so much better off if history had taken a different turn and most British today now know that.

Thanks for posting this series. I saw The Kings Speech last night- a brilliant movie. It has given me an interest in understanding more about the monarchy at that time.
I'm reading the authorised biography of the Queen Mother and even after he abdicated and was awaiting for her divorce to go through, he still kept hounding his brother about Wallis and kept interfering in matters of state. The Royal family knew about the Nazi "flirtation".

I also say that thank goodness history happened as it did---for if Edward been allowed the throne----WWII would have been different and this shallow couple would have been responsible for a whole lot worse then they are already guilty of. Edward and Wallis were protected--if news of his treason were made public???? Maybe England would not have this royal family.
Can you imagine the difference between King George VI, who remained in London during the war, and his brother King Edward VIII who sympathized publicly with the enemy?
Although Wallis Simpson was in all probability a gold digger, the 'whore from Baltimore" as she was called performed an invaluable service in removing this nazi sympathizer from power. And if she WAS controlled by the germans, she would have refused to marry him. The Shanghai "sex technique" thing seems like rumour to me.
@eddihaskell , She was never called "The Whore Of Baltimore". This is the first time I'm hearing of this nonsense. Anyway, save your breath. Calling her names isn't going to change a damn thing in all of this. It's over and all the major and minor bit players in this are dead. All that's left is "you"...calling her names on youtube. Pathetic. waste of time.
@808Lana Lana, in fact she WAS called the "Whore of Baltimore at the type. The British public hated her for taking their Prince away from him. She had to leave London on fear of her life. And, sorry, IMHO she WAS a golddigger. I am bringing up a historical fact, and if you read the rest of my comments and put your emotional hysterics aside you can see I am saying something positive about her. I think she did the world a service bringing Edward off the throne. Your apologies are accepted.
@eddihaskell , I'm not apologizing to you. Why should I? You're funny. Um, no maybe Heather Mills was a gold digger but no, not Wallis. Edward was "young" and "hot" so I could understand why she would jump on that. Any person with sense would. And then run off to Paris. Sounds like a good life to me. Also, you can't PROVE somebody is a gold digger- that's just something subjective & we can argue about that for the rest of our lives. It's subjective.

None of this hatred of him would exist if he had been a mindless robot like his predecessors and successors and just done what the government said-fact is he would have been a great king-he had a social conscience way beyond the rest of his aristocratic contemporaries.......but because god forbid he didnt want to be told who to marry he was cast out by the elite.
He reminds me of a `1920s rince harry-a boy born into money who nonetheless lived amongst real people
@bulked This man was a nazi sympathiser who wrote to Hitler praising him for bombing England. He wanted Hitler to win the war so he could be reinstated as King. Wallis was in contact with Ribbontropp and both gave away vital war secrets. His best friends were fascists and nazis. He was a traitor and a coward unlike the King and Queen who remained in Britain loyal to the people.
@musicologo1able No he only wanted to be King providing Hitler won the war. He hoped Hitler would win and he would be placed back on the throne. Both him and his wife should have been shot as traitors to England.
Very interesting documentary. Disregarding whether wrong or right, it is to be noted that by beginnings of 1930, there was great sympathy for Germany in the Swedish court. It was well knows by everyone that the Swedish King sympathized with the Nazi regime.
@DantesDump And your a television programmed numpty. Britain went to war to protect Poland's sovereignty, only declaring war on Germany when both Germany & Russia invaded it.
@lynchie3000 Which was pretty hypocritical when you consider during the was Britain for forcibly occupying India and then took over Palestine and gave it to the Jews after the war. I guess it only matters when the sovereignty threatened is that of white people
