Isn't this how the song originally sounded when it was first released in 1963 besides the live dialouge extras. It isn't too fast at all its the exact sound!
i'm pretty sure this is the proper tempo from the performance. i've noticed martha speeds up the song on live performances. like her performance of "Come and Get These Memories" at the Apollo.
to speed up the songs weren't actually martha's choice. the motown review was performed in one night with over 10 artists singing about 3-4 maybe 5 songs. so to make sure the concert didnt last three days all of the artists sped up some of their songs. the marvellettes did the same thing.
You know, the live band could have played this at the same tempo but a lower key for ease of singing. The engineers may have then sped up the live recording to bring the key back up to match the original studio version. It just sounds way too fast here! This suggests that the studio version was recorded using varispeed where the track is recorded slower or played back slower for the singer and sped up for the final product to tighten the sound and raise pitch, giving a more exciting sound.
@MotownMaster the original vinyl is recorded in a more bass friendly E# wherethis is played in D.personally i think a lot of the motown revue were played in a higher key live to -1, increase the excitement of the live track, make it sound more 'vagas revue' and 2 the gear they were using just wouldnt cut it at the lower pitches, you'd lose the bass or live ,martha might've just been more comfortable in that key.
I search since 1980 one album. I thınk ıt's name is " the greatest of 1964" all of hıt's motown rec. exp. martha reeves& vandellas " quicksand" and the coasters, I think "under the boardwalk" exct. so I search all inc. songs. because I didn't remember one of one songs that is my GREATEST one. please be helped FİND that. thanks.... melissscolla
