Interestingly enough, Animated Cybertron Mode Ironhide (a repaint of this very same figure with a new head) is packaged in vehicle mode. So, they could have done that with this figure too, but for some reason chose not to.

Punching Gimmick I believe is more for the Ironhide Remold that suppose to come out.

you can push the front end in so that its flush with the windshield. its on one of those slide joints.

that makes sense that the cybertronian vehicle mode is bigger because cybertronians are bigger than humans
