  • Ah, vintage Costello! When they were hungry, creative and not giving a f#$%.

  • To all West'am, Arsenal, QPR, Fulham, Spurs players...Sing It Loud!!!

  • @designeranoraks

    Amen brother!No surrender!

  • love this, forgot how much!

  • This is ace. Always my face Elvis song.

  • Angry Young Mullet...love it

  • What is that organ that makes such a weird sound? It's on all of Costello's early stuff.

  • Elvis is like this great, sweaty athlete and you just want to towel him off

  • brilliant track, so powerfull, and sung amazingly, love this track, xxx

  • I bet there are very few people who can handle this bassline. Maybe that is why this fantastic song is hardly ever covered?

  • @Atticwalk

Always liked Bruce Thomas. Thought his bass drove all of This Year's Model (Costello's second album, and first with this line-up).

  • @brianallancobb

Agree absolutely- didnt realise at the time but now cant stop listening to the basslines. Was the band the attractions on the original- heard the band were hughy lewis and the news for the orig recording

  • @barneybostin

The best of my knowledge...it was Huey Lewis's band on Costellos' first band, but minus Huey Lewis. Only on Watching The Detectives was it The Attractions...whom you see in this video on that first album. From the second album on, it was The Attractions.

We had a bar band in Portland, Johnny and the Distractions, whose name I think obviously was inspired by The Attractions. They absolutely kicked ass. Concert-hall intensity in bars. Still have their albums on vinyl.

  • The Attractions are second to none.

  • UN CLASSICO DEL PUNK NEW WAVE 78

  • u r's!! elvis c is the man

  • What an amazing band!

  • I know there is a lot underground that's brilliant these days, but what happened to lock out guys like him from the entire pursuit of making sheer brilliance like he did? It's obvious that there's been a de-facto ban on all of them in music anyway. Are they all writing code somewhere? Maybe they have a co-op weed garden on street money and they're being foodies or something.

  • BINGO!!

  • Elvis is awesome probably why my dad named me Declan if you didn't already know that is elvis' original name. Elvis is awesome!

  • @napoleon503

    .....or a Irish catholic :D

  • @brianallancobb haha yeah such groove. shit.

  • EPIC T-Rex @1:25-1:30!!!

  • 11 people wanted to go to chelsea...

  • Steve Nieve is only twenty years old.

  • I like Elvis putting his left hand on the fretboard to still the feedback.

    Great performance.

I don't want to go to Chelsea.

I prefer Belgravia, where all the cheap hotels are down the road from Victoria Station. :-)

  • not to forget the most amazing bass player whose bass lines are like no other.

He was amazing. What a great live band.

  • Elvis - Ahh yesssss

  • I thick he;s just out standing in thing he's rageing of some good lol

  • Is he Diana Krall's husband/

  • elvis looks like Brick Top from Snatch in this ha

  • For fuck's sake, don't compare crap like rhcp with elvis costello... That's offensive.

  • I was happy with the cheap hotels near Victoria Station.

I don't want to go to Chelsea.

  • Ah! the lean and mean Elvis who changed music in the late 1970s. Really tight band with great keyboard & drums.

  • @11xzxzxz

    Don't forget the excellent bassist.

  • @cdronk yes it would be Neive to forget the great bassist Bruce Thomas.

  • Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!

  • Funny, I used to enjoy cycling about Chelsea in 1996. Years later, I went off it.

  • increible............. que sonido,, RED HOT ....

  • increible.............

  • This brings me back....great times

  • best drum intro

  • reminds me of cheap whizz and night buses....

  • @blackvinylrecords LOL...spot on mind

  • Interesting - it only says "Costello" on the neck of his Jazzmaster, instead of his full name. It must've been in mid-modification at that time.

  • This song was not on the American release of This Year's Model, but I got to hear it on bootleg. Killer. Now all the Elvis bootlegs I had are bonus material on the re-issued CD's.

  • Fabulous . top band top record. cheers

  • @universalself - c'mon.... seriously...

  • True genius, but you know that.

  • Keyboards and bass very reminiscent of The Stranglers

  • the guy on the keyboard sort of looks like ben stiller.

  • What a wank

  • Elvis shows alot of charisma in this vid, I find that quite sexy ;)

  • absolutely amazing, so atmospheric and the keyboard player is a genius!

  • It does not move me, even though I've seen the movie

  • This is reportedly one of Nick Jonas's favorite songs.

  • @dylanpresley Atleast he has a good taste for this one...

  • @escander2 Elvis Costello is one of Nick's favorite artists. he actually has very good taste in music. He's a classic oldies fan.

  • This performance is INCREDIBLE. Elvis' live stuff is just that--alive.

  • Great drumming, crazy Keyboards, and an insane riff. This is my favorite song of all time.

  • He looks like Christan Bale on American Psycho when in the movie Christian is running from the cops towards the end of the film. How funny

  • They just don't make them like THIS YEARS MODEL........Rock and Roll in it's purest form......

  • I want his guitar!!! you just gotta love him!!

  • absolutely grrrrrrrrreat!

  • weezer? maybe hint of influence there?

  • the only cool fender jaguar...

  • It's young Vic Reeves!

  • Frickin' awesome! Thanks for posting that.

  • steve nieve, ladies and gentlemen.

    very cheesy guitar, elvis. shame.

  • punk rock

  • Man, this just goes to show why I saw Elvis live as many times as I could in my life. Steve Nieve is dropping some amazing organ sounds. Elvis' guitar rocks.

  • "They call her Natasha when she looks like Elsie"

    What a great lyric!!!

  • This is sweet, mullet and all! This is classic!

  • wow

  • I don't think people give Elvis Costello enough credit as a guitarist. Shame about the mullet, though...

  • @JesusPaid4You we re not talking JESUS COSTELLO go grow a beard

  • W O AH what great sound...they all look like spastics...just neive looks normalian...but bespectcled

  • wonderful song!

  • Elvis Costello's father sang the R Whites lemonade advert song. You remember - I'm a secret lemonade drinker.

  • Mr. Fasthands mFer on the drums here. Incredible!!

  • So cool. Amazing song!

I love how he based his look on Buddy Holly, and also Gene Vincent with the leg moves he often did. And that amazing "Californian dude" voice he put on.

  • Wore the 7" out when I was a kid back then! haha!!

The keyboard on this is mad balls good!!

Still one of my faves by Costello!

Just realised summit listening to this live version; I now know where The Red Hot Chili Peppers got their Funk-Rock 'sound' from!!

    Does anyone else feel it?

  • @TheSilverDubber OMGreat Rock Gods - YES! Although it sounds equally like early Police and the Clash to me.

  • @TheSilverDubber yeah i can definitely here what you mean :)

  • i get it

  • @TheSilverDubber attractions and also james chance + the contortions

  • @TheSilverDubber :Hell yeah, wey way way ahead of their time

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSilverDubber

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, the whole early 90s so-called alternative scene...

  • Man......I liked Elvis Costello a lot better then, when he was still playing rock and roll.

  • kuntz

  • @caytonxavier is that someone's name you've spelt wrong?

  • "chelsea" kind of sounds like "jail."

  • @winggoddess no

  • the best drum intro ever!

  • Hey wow, pop music when it didn't suck! Elvis is one of the world's coolest nerds... he's a great songwriter and comes across as a natural intellectual in interviews.

  • blockheads were a damn good combo too

  • Another example of how the ATTRACTIONS ( Thomas, Thomas and Nieve) where one of the best bands ever!

  • probably the second best backing band of all time, except for, obviously, the Band

  • Good call!

  • @DaRandom90

    Well said, man

  • Now, that's some fine rock and roll!!! Take notes, kids.

  • @chuckiejay Nice call on the Chili peppers! I totally get it.

  • @chuckiejay - you ain't kiddin'! Elvis rocks!

  • Classic.... my dads music but still good!! better than the crap they mass produce now days....... Lil jon ft fat daddy addy bring back the good stuff!!!

  • I love this version!!! is better than the studio version

  • man they are on some speed or something

  • Bass player wasn't Elvis' best friend. Costello did his best to work around the fact that he had no leading/supportive lines. If only we could turn back time. These guys were so hot! It hurts to know they were so poorly rehearsed.

  • @KittraKittra Wow, I don't think I could disagree more. Bruce Thomas was a great driving, melodic bass player who added a lot to EC's music. He happens to be low in the mix in this clip, but that's not his fault. And I'm not hearing a poorly rehearsed band here.

  • Fuckin essential,if you dont love this your braindead. The best video on youtube...trust me,ive seen them all!

  • You've see all the videos on youtube? I trust you. Sure I do.

  • I just knew some cretin would take it literally. Your that man. Its retorical or ironic or something..i dont know. Just get into the vid dickhead.

  • I knew some bell end would would fail to appreciate my irony. I am into the vid, thanks.

  • fair enough, but not worth mentioning to begin with.

  • shall we end the conversation then?

  • Wow. The synth Steve's using for the bass clef sound MEAN.

  • THANKS FOR POSTING. Wonderful video. Elvis rules!!

  • I WANT that Fender Jag!! (D.M....if you are watching...)

    what a great guitar solo!!

  • that's a Jazzmaster, friend...

  • I stand corrected. Of course, Jag has little single coils..

    Thanks notaphaser.. :-)

  • I was just watching some music videos on tv, and forgot what rock 'n roll looked like. Then I watched this. Now I remember.

  • Classic Elvis doing what he does best, the MAGIC MAN! Check your pulse after listening to that and I'll bet it's racing.

  • :22 - :23 the keyboard guy looks like he's jamming out old school i love Elvis Costello
