The best of my knowledge...it was Huey Lewis's band on Costellos' first band, but minus Huey Lewis. Only on Watching The Detectives was it The Attractions...whom you see in this video on that first album. From the second album on, it was The Attractions.

We had a bar band in Portland, Johnny and the Distractions, whose name I think obviously was inspired by The Attractions. They absolutely kicked ass. Concert-hall intensity in bars. Still have their albums on vinyl.

Bass player wasn't Elvis' best friend. Costello did his best to work around the fact that he had no leading/supportive lines. If only we could turn back time. These guys were so hot! It hurts to know they were so poorly rehearsed.
