@Corruptedcross01 Because there would be no story, obviously. =:))) It's the same kind of question as "Why didn't Elrond just take the Ring from Isildur by force in the first place?" Elrond had sworn to his brother to protect his descendants, Eagles (and Gwaihir, their King, who had borne Gandalf over Gorgoroth to look for Frodo) had a mind of their own, they weren't just used. Gandalf had to bow low and *ask* if Gwaihir would let him mount him. The people of M-E had to do the task to unite.

In the actual mythology, ALL of the people of M-E are craftsmen *first* and after that comes the need for battle (which Melkor seeded into the Elves in Valinor through lies and machinations) and later on continued to be uttermost evil thing himself. But I digress, the Dwarves are diggers, builders, smiths. Very valiant when need be, yes, but the movies don't give a complete insight where they are concerned.

Hindered, yes, but even if they managed to smite the whole vastness of his army, there would still be the Ring and Sauron's power was bound to it, so there would still be Sauron and evil. He'd resurface in a given number of years again. He had to be destroyed. Sometimes you just can't win with muscles only.
