Surkeiden olojen perustana on vuosien 1941-42 nälänhätä.
During the Winter War the British and French were getting ready to come to the aid of the Finns but the war ended before they could do so. What an interesting scenario that would have provided. If the Brits & French had done it in time they would have been at war against Germany AND the USSR. Would the Soviets have been attacking the Allies in France alongside the Germans in 1940, or would the Western Allies have made a deal with Hitler to turn on the Soviets then. A big what if in history.
@dancinkindofguy I remember reading about this dilemma somewhere. If I remember correctly the western allies did NOT want to get involved at all and it was a diplomatic nightmare to still remain in good terms with both Finland and USSR. Nobody wanted a war with the USSR, only Germany's leadership was crazy enough to do so.
Finland didn't have any chance! Germany was only one who became to help! Soviet Union sucks so it's better to be friends with Germany like we always are!!!!
@MrSlipperyfish In finland is only Defending Forces, we dont invade anybody, we just wanna keep out country peacefull and not starting a war. So... for us, its just self-defence.
Why do you say co-belligerenting with Axis was a bad thing. Finland was the only partner country of Nazi Germany that never took part in the holocaust. Finland had used all its resources in the Winter War, no foreign help or aid would been given to Finland except from Nazi Germany.
Finland had to choose between 2 options; Partnership with Nazi Germany or joining in the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union sounded much worse than being a democratic country as Finland used to be.
If YOU have to choose between mighty army with recourses and ammunition or DEATH. What would you do if you were a small nation caught between???
Finland never was axis. Period . Finland has formed treaty with nazi-Germany . Period . But all couse of Pantzerschrecks and some more ammo. Germany wanted to attack sovietRussia of an larger front. So We had same kind of iterests about that. Get destroyed or fight back. It was a side mission for the Russians, but measures were like 1 to 100....
I don't hate Finland..every nation has the right to defend itself. If they could only get help from Nazi Germany we can hardly blame them. If a mobster buys a starving man dinner we shouldn't blame him for eating.
Finland actually did "team up" with the Axis, coming from a Finn. Finland was provided with top-secret information regarding operation Barbarossa and it's preparations, in which Finland was actively a part of. Finland doesn't want to admit it, but we were part of Axis.
Also, on contrary to the popular belief, the Axis military alliance does not = evil. Finland proves that, we were part of Axis, yet we had a just cause. Iraq and Thailand were too, if I'm not mistaken.
@OnlyLifeMatters The russkies did strict plans to occupy Finland in 1941 and moved troops for that purpose. The bombing of Helsinki and other cities was an offensive and planned move. It´s true that the Finns had also "choosed" or were forced to choose their side at that stage. But politically the Axis and Finland had very different goals.
Germans of course wanted to bind Finland to them and their wargoals, so this kind of News were natural to them. But Finland refused to sing the Axis pact
@OnlyLifeMatters Finland wasnt part of the Axis. To be part of the Axis, you have to sign Tripartite pact. Finland never did->Finland was never part of the Axis. Finland WAS allied with Germany though, but that dosent make Finland being part of the Axis.
@JohQx3 It probably feels good and relief to you to say that. But it only works in theory. Finland in fact signed Antikomitern treaty with Japan and Germany, which, made us a close ally to Germany. In practice Finland was one of the closest cooperators of Germany during the war, no matter how we wanted to turn it upside down. While not legally part of Axis, we were that in very practice. It would be hypocrite to deny it.
@OnlyLifeMatters Good and relief? Hmm...not really. I'm proud that we were allied with Germany. After all there really wasn't any other choice... UK, US and France were allied with USSR. Germany and Finland had common enemy, USSR. ''My enemies enemy is my friend.'' I don't deny Finland's alliance with Germany, but Finland and Germany had very different goals in the war. Finland wanted her territory back, Germany wanted to get rid of communism and ''subhumans''.
@JohQx3 Well, Finland did want to create "Greater Finland", not just retrieve the lost territory...one plan was that the Arkhangelsk Oblast would belong to Finland, alongside the northern St. Petersburg and Karelian Republic. It was a huge vision for Finnish war command, and if Wehrmacht would've crushed Moscow, that kind of Finland would exist today.
Finland had 8 concentration camps, and to these camps "non-finnic" people, who didn't qualify, were transferred alongside Soviet soldiers.
@OnlyLifeMatters Greater Finland...Dream of certain nationalist movements in Finland but not goal of Finland as a nation. I do agree that if USSR wouldve fallen, Greater Finland would've existed, but that wasnt main goal of Continuation war. Concentration camps? Umm..so? Wouldve brutal execution of POWs and civilians been better then? ''Non-finnic'' people are civlians of Finnish occupied Soviet territory. There wasnt any ''racical separations'' inside Finland.
@OnlyLifeMatters The camps you mentioned were normal internment camps. The reason Soviet civilians could be interned was purely based on military situation (Finland had not much troops to secure the area). The foreign inspectors (Swedish, Swiss etc.) that visited the camps reported no humanitary problems (and no Zyklon-B as you probably think).
By the way, Finland was strong enemy of the communists... They join in Axis and the Fins people not should look at this as mistake.. this was the most right choise possible. The Russians lied the Bulgarians and other countries that they are friend only cause want control there.. but when Bulgaria joined in Axis too..then Russia show what is .. the result is one Russian and Romanian armies crushed in Dobrogea by the Bulgarians..
I not know how, but Fins and Bulgs had same enemy all time
Stalins last regards after peace treaty in 13.3.1940 ''We arent done with you yet''... Now thats comforting. Then Britain, France and USA allies with USSR. Now Finns mustve felt really secure. Funny to see British propaganda about USSR before and after allying with USSR. Attitudes can change in few days.
World just gave Finland little help, compassion, promises and just words. After winter war we felt to be alone. No help from the west. West betrayed us. And look, Germany comes from nowhere and save our asses god dammit and we are fucking nazis right. We owe much for Germany, thank you all.
Finland has a most puzzling position in WWII: Stalin and Hitler make a pact; Hitler supports Stalin's grab for Finland; Finland defends itself against Stalin's moronic commanders and then embraces Hitler in 1941. In addition Mannerheim who smashed Finnish unions in the same fashion as Hitler would do in 1933 is still regarded as a "democrat". Very interesting.
@hectorbolshevik Finland and Germany were "brothers in arms" but no valid treaty was ever signed. President Ryti signed the treaty in a way he knew was illegal and not legally binding. Mannerheim was not a democrat, he was a monarchist. He hated the communists who killed the russian emperor. After all, he had spent best years of his life in the chevalier guards, and was a real old-time noble. He also hated the nazis for attacking his homecity for 30 years St. Petersburg.
Finland never joined axis, they just let Germans attack to U.S.S.R from Finnish soil because Soviet Union already attacked Finland. Look at the map at 0:22 and you see how big Soviet Union was at that time. Soviet Union attacked Finland because of that strategic place to defend and attack against to the west and they say that Finland attacked Russia first but that is of course not true and even Stalin himself have said later that he wanted Finland to himself. ..and I think that Hitler wanted too
@dinnemesis when i think about it i think that the finns were angry at the Germans because of the molotov -ribbentrop pact and several german attempts to hurt the finnish war effort in the winter war
@dinnemesis Both Germans and Fins were close allies. Although Finland unlike the Kingdom of Denmark, did not sign the Antikomintern Pakt. Kingdom of Denmark in 1943 joined the Anti-Communist Pact led by Germany and Italy, and Dr. Erik Scavenius signed it for Denmark. Many countries allied with Nazi Germany, who "forgot" this alliance in May 1945 suddenly. Sudden "amnesia"? Sure. Germans were loved by many European peoples too. Not by Communists, Soviet partisands and Poles merely.
Making this clear: Finns joined the axis because they had a common enemy = The russia who stole bits of land from Finland. The finns just wanted their land back and nothing more. It was the fucking moron Stalin who started it all, Stalin who was much worse killer than Hitler. Stalin killed millions of hes own people, he was a fucking retard. The axis lost just because they had too many "fronts" at war, if only commies or only west, they would have won the war(s).
@enemyofhumans finland NEVER joined axis,it never admitted it,and it only was defending its own coutnry,it never was an ally of like, italy and shit,it was never in axis side
@darnjack0roll It's true we made a seperate deal with the germans without officially joining the axis. We were never the same kind of parterns as Mussolinis fascist Italy, or even the Imperial Japan. But we did figth againt the USSr along side the Germans, for our own reasons, but still.
@MARRECOS60 How exactly, with a leftwing goverment...? People such as you really need to open a book once in a while or try to ask people who actually know about the subject before jumping to conclusions.
As I've said before: finns were as much nazis as soviets were democratic.
@MARRECOS60 Well at least our country dont have any money problems like your country has LOLOLOLOLLOL XD PORTUGAL IS SO POOR AND FINLAND IS RICH COUNTRY LOLOLOLOL IN YOUR FACE ASSWIPE
@gottmospahedengubbar well america defeated the british army in the revolutionary war which was at the time the most powerful army in the world at the time so don't hate on america (I was born in america but my parents are finnish btw)
@gottmospahedengubbar I'm not hating on America, I'm completely aware that the US has an amazing warfare, both present and historically. I'm just comparing what the Finns managed, as dito to what happened in Vietnam.
@gottmospahedengubbar Don't be so foolish.History proves you wrong. If the Finns had of kept themselves operating independent of the Nazi war machine I could agree with you.But since there were Finn Waffen SS units your argument is just an attempt to rewrite history. The Finns willingly integrated with the Nazis and nothing you or I say can change that......I don't blame them for fighting the USSR at all though.
@russfromdodge Operating independent of the Nazi War machine? So you're basically saying that Soviet didnt have any plans to invade Finland or the Nordic countries at all? That the finns were attacked because of their "Nazi War machine operations"? Come on, stop bullshitting us.
Because of the finns there still is a country called Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. If the finns wouldn't have fought so bravely against the russians, they had most likely taken over whole Scandinavia and u faggots would be speaking ruski now.
@H0llaZ1990 No. It's because Finland is whore-country. You changed sides when it became obvious that germans had lost war and turned your weapons against your yesterday's best friends - fascists. Very brave. But my strong point - Finland should be erased for Leningrad siege and for all 850 000 deaths you committed.
And now you communists want refunding for losing lives in a war? Your war atrocities caused the world to turn on you - live with your mistakes, you're never gonna get Finland.
@H0llaZ1990 //Don't refer to me as finnish.// i am not a specialist in sorts of shit.
//And now you communists want refunding for losing lives in a war?// The Leningrad siege was an act of genocide in accordance with Nuremberg tribunal but historians have been mostly silent about finnish participation most likely due to the friendly nature of post-war Soviet-Finnish relations. But my strong point - Finland should be erased for Leningrad siege.
@goodspeedy666 //Your war atrocities caused the world to turn on you//wake up. Nazi germany and allies attacked USSR, after it they were destroyed by Red army.
//- live with your mistakes, you're never gonna get Finland.// Communists were too merciful and not vindictive, but majority of russians including me are not communists and we will never forget. My point - 2-3 nuclear 2 megatons warheads for helsinky would be sufficient payback. blood for blood, ash to ash.
Yes, because of the Red Army's tactics. And I'm not talking about "oh they were so strategic", I'm talking about throwing men, children and women into real soldiers over and over again until they win. From 1941-1943 all they did was use these poor idiotic tactics. Even in the finnish war. It's ridiculous how you're defending them.
Oh, and Communists were mercyfull?! What fucking Telletubby book have you been reading about World War 2? Your logic makes no sense at all.
@H0llaZ1990 // I'm talking about throwing men, children and women into real soldiers over and over again until they win.// Children never fought in Red army during WW2. In some critical moments (Batle for Moscow), civilian reservists were used. Germans also used civilians, even children against us in Battles for Berlin - "Volksturm". //It's ridiculous how you're defending them.// Should i ask you what should i defend ? or should i just say to you - f@ck off ?
@goodspeedy666 //Oh, and Communists were mercyfull?!// Yes, instead of reeling up all finland on tanks tracks, like they did with all nazi allies, they just demanded to clean finland territories from germans. Finland was not occupied.
//What fucking Telletubby book have you been reading about World War 2?// are you going to lecture me ?maybe you wanna cup ?
@goodspeedy666 You realize you can write "fuck off" on youtube, right? Anyway, I'm not here to teach you history but I'm not gonna sit here and let you lecture whatever the hell you've learnt which is incorrect and biased.
I haven't said that you should defend -anything- but what you're trying to defend is garbage and makes no sense.
@H0llaZ1990 //You realize you can write "fuck off" on youtube, right?// i wrote f@ck off - meaning flack off. You have so dirty thoughts ^_^. //whatever the hell you've learnt which is incorrect and biased.// your estimation of my beliefs is very important for me. Please keep estimating. //I haven't said that you should defend -anything- but what you're trying to defend is garbage and makes no sense.// i think you are defending garbage.
@goodspeedy666 You realize the finnish participance you're talking about is retarded, right? We're talking about seven rifle divisions who just held the line around Leningrad, the real work was done by Nazi Germany, so maybe you should direct your anger somewhere else. For no reason at ALL, the Soviet union launched an attack on a peace loving country, to capture a few harbors. And you fucking complain when they get a taste of their own medicine?
@H0llaZ1990 //talking about seven rifle divisions who just held the line around Leningrad, the real work was done by Nazi Germany// maybe i just throw your stupid as@ from window, the real work will be done by gravitation and Asphalt surface ? // launched an attack on a peace loving country// in that moment Finland was almost germans ally and refused our offer to exchange some territories //, to capture a few harbors.// without capturing it, Leningrad would be destroyed in a few hours.
@goodspeedy666 "maybe i just throw your stupid as@ from window, the real work will be done by gravitation and Asphalt surface?"
Are you an idiot? How is that even close to what I was saying?
Oh, wait, you're saying it's okay to have the Molotov-Ribbentropp pact, but when another country "almost" have the same thing, you attack them? How is that making sense? "They refused our offer", so you kill them?
And what are you talking about? The Soviets attack on the harbors was years before the siege!
@H0llaZ1990 Many russians don´t have healthy relation to their history, because objective tradition is very thin. History writing used to be communist propaganda, today it´s in many ways ultra-nationalistic. They have a state comission whish is watching all historywriting that it follows "the offical truth". So it´s no wonder, there is so many hate oriented people there.
@Mainilanlaukaisija //History writing used to be communist propaganda, today// hey maybe it is already time to stop this bla bla bla about communists .... communism and etc. You bitches always HATE Russia and russians, not communism. So just call it by its real name, dont hide your rusophobia and nationalism in stamps like "communism". The USSR doesn't exist 20 years.
@goodspeedy666 //They have a state comission whish is watching all historywriting that it follows "the offical truth"// In Baltic states and poland you will be jailed for denying "the offical truth".
@H0llaZ1990 //How is that even close to what I was saying?// Leningrad was surrounded by enemy forces. People in city were dying more from starvation and cold than from artillery and air-attacks (~3%), because food and fuel could not be supplied through enemy lines - Finnish forces were closing encirclement from north. So there is no sense in arguing about "who did the real work" - without finnish forces there would be no encirclement. Is it clear ?
@goodspeedy666 // How is that making sense? "They refused our offer", so you kill them?// removing the threat to the second largest city where was almost 30% of all our industry in that time is vital important, and had sense. Finns had a chance to solve this problem peacefully but they rejected this way because of germany influence. // The Soviets attack on the harbors was years before the siege!// if we did not, Leningrad would be lost in few hours after beginning the great war.
@goodspeedy666 Did you know, that when the russians wanted to take finnish defencive lines in 1939, Stalin was speaking about threath of Great-Britain not Germany? Did you know, that Stalin promised to respect Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian indipendence, as well as finnish, if those countries give military bases to Soviet Union?
@goodspeedy666 Stop replying to your own comments, I can't tell if it's directed at me or someone else.
And I think you mean The Winter War, not The Great War.
And of course it would've been lost, YOU started the war with your Soviet lies. Incase you haven't read about it, the Soviets bombed themselves then blamed it on Finland in order to have a reason to attack. When the finns wanted to investigate it, they considered an investigation hostile and attacked.
@goodspeedy666 Finland didn't do shit, yet as soon as this happened, the Russians bombed Helsinki, a CIVILIAN CAPITAL, for -NO- reason, and you want to scorch finnish soil? Are you fucking retarded? Have you learnt nothing of the Soviets mistake when you've read? These fucking Commie bastards bombed a neutral country for greed, and when their people get a taste of their own medicine you have the fucking balls to say that Finland deserves to be bombed? You've been indoctrinated.
@goodspeedy666 Like I've asked before, where the fuck have you gotten your facts from? These finnish RIFLEMAN DIVISIONS were situated at the Karelian Isthmus, which is far-far away from today's St. Petersburg. Of course it matters to the argument who the real work was done by! The finnish weren't even close to affect or to even defend the lines from any attack, the Germans were the one keeping the siege! Plus, Germans weren't even allowed to store their supplies in Finland.
Finland tried several times during 1939-40 to co-operate with Great Britain and France, and with Sweden also, but none of these countries were ready for a official co-operation. After the Winter War the Soviet Union was a constant threat to Finland. In November 1940 during his visit to Berlin, Molotov asked Hitler free hands to start a new invasion of Finland. Hitler denied this. After Germany had occupied Norway, there was not much to choose from in case of a conflict between these two big.
@MrBumbooo you're so dumb i bet you come from across the pond....
your knowledge of history is lame at best.
finland took it's independance from then russia in 1917, they merely defended themselves from a soviet invasion in 1940, and they did so with outmost courage, not like my own ancestors.
from france with huge respect, keep your sisu spirit,
Toinen maailmansota oli ennenkaikkea ristiretki kommunismia vastaan, jossa suomalainen talonpoikaisdemokratia marssi samassa rintamassa diktatuurimaiden kanssa. Valitettavasti tämä ristiretki meni mönkään, ja kaikki me näemme tänään ympärillämme seuraukset. Liittoutuneiden voiton jälkeen vuonna 1945 maailma alkoi täyttyä paskasta eikä loppua vieläkään näy.
we fighted for our freedom! russians attacked to us even they say we were the attackers if you start think seriously this why 10 times smaller county would attack to bigger one?? information after war ended go to wikipedia and write there winter war u see but heres man lost list!
Finland had 337000-346000 mens. russians had 426000-761000 mens.
After war finland had lost 26000 mens.and russians lost 127000 mens. we never joined fighted only for our self
Finland was in a difficult position, as the Soviets were an threat again after the winter war. Germany did not show any notice at the winter war, but at the continuation war, Germanys goal were to attack the Soviets so Finland was a good position to launch an secondary assault from. As Finland needed weaponry against the possible attack from the Soviets, the germans offered Finland weapons for a passage way through Finland. Hitler declared Finland as an Axis country and that provoked Soviets.
Sir(s): If I may, at this Date and Time so Inform that the ONLY Bolsheviks, socially, politically and militarily, here, are the persons who are Neo-Stalinists of Good Ole Cuba, local Mexicans, and Otherwise "Loco Lost Boys" around making Other People also Lost M. I. A.'s still here. They conduct themselves as if drugs on the Street are "the shit" as if they have a Business. Also they are prime liars. Thank you.
allies did warcrimes such as axis.. i dont disrespect both of sides. i think the most tactically army were germany and most powerfull were USSR/USA. the smallest but so deadly country were finland // yksi suomalainen vastaa 10 ryssää
Finland was the only free democratic country in Europe through out the entire World War that was not occupied and did not have a change in goverment. Also, keep in mind that both Winter and Continnuation War were conflicts between Finland and USSR, and happened at the time of WW2, but were compleatly independent wars.
And, in 1945, we fought against the germans in the War of Lapland.
@burnt62 That partly the point I was going for, but I guess I did not make it clear enough. I apologize.
So to make it perfectly clear for everyone:
In Europe, Finland was the only dmocratic nation that took part in the conflict and did not have a change in goverment or get occupied by a hostile nation.
We were NOT nazis, and our wars were always for our own survival, freedom and Independence.
@Scoutrussp7 So let's say, USSR was in war against Finland, and was allied with the Great-britain, USA etc. So does that make Russkies Brits and Americans ass lickers? Wiht your logic yes! Go hide yourself you imbesil commie...
I have a book told the Germany plans for future Finland would have gotten rather big territories also there were talking that Finland maybe have Estonia too there was alot of Suursuomi (Greater Finland) talking in 1941 also many Finnish propaganda song lyrics are for taking more territory. Since Finland's first territories are little bigger than before Winter war just to tell all users from here
What is your book? It was also Hitlers propaganda, when he tried push finnish war effort. The finnish leaders had doubts of those talks and also to the matter itself.
The finnish wartime songs were mostly propagandist at all. They just were songs about trenches and military men and women. I don´t know any with direct demand of territories. "Uraliin" to the Urals is a funny song, but it tells about finnish invasion and how the russians flee behind the Urals. Is there more?
I have Cd about Finnish war propaganda songs called MOLOTOHVIN KOKTAILI - propagandaa levyillä 1940-42 it has some songs very agressive some are just too hilarious. Well we dont know for sure what would have been the Finns territorial gains but i think only that can be trusted is the plans Finland and Germany made.
Oh that one, I got it too. The best songs are in my opinion "Kremlin Uni" , a dream of Kreml and Uraliin, they are just funny. In that CD you also find out that most of the songs are not agressive at all, they are just made to keep people in good temper.
The most agressive songs, if I remember right, were not wartime songs at all originally, and they were not even played much in the radio, because people didn´t like them. They were used in small group right wing activists meetings. I mean songs like "Beetween the eyes to the ruskie". Still don´t know any song concerning territory demands.
Yeah, "Between the eyes" was pretty rough for a Finnish war song, honestly I don´t think even Germans had so blatantly anti-Slav/Russian songs. But I have to admit it´s pretty darn good song. ;)
The territoral gains were sketshed by the army. The minimum wes to get back the Soviet occupated Karelia and the maximum was about that were the finnish army were in the trench warfare time, read = East Karelia. Politically even that could have been difficult to the Social Democrats which were the biggest party. They were basicly pasifists and the crossing of old border was difficult to them.
Look at the Greater-Finland, Suur-Suomi map in wikipedia or something. If the Germans would have agreed to give us part of the conquered land why would we refuse? As a sign of goodwill to Soviets? The Winter War was still in bitter memory after all...
I can tell you that in Wiki there is in this case real amateaur work. We know that there was a small extreme right (with few per cent popularity) who kept this ideology alive. Those maps are mostly bullshit.
For example Estonia proposed many times union with Finland, but Finland refused. In extreme right there really existed on thing. They wanted to free the eastkarelians from communist opression, but you cant find East-Karelia as it´s own entirety at all. And as much you find that the borders are wrogly drawn.
The only real question was East-Karelia. One thing that made also that question real was that the ruskies shooted 34000 eastkarelians in years 1937-1938.
The finnish army had 3 different plans for Soviet land consessions and in the largest plan was East-Karelia included to the Greater-Finland. There never was any other plans.
Still I don´t think that finnish leaders wouldn´t mind if empire of evil would have collapsed.
We (Finland) needed a friend to fight against the Soviets. There wasn't any other change than to get friends with Germany. If the Nazies had won the war would Finland have grown much larger
When WWI began, young Finnish guys travelled via Sweden to Germany and joined to Germany´s army. They got full military education the Wilhelm II´s royal Preus Jäger regiment with WWI battlefield experiences. Spring winter 1918 finnish jägers and 12.000 German soldiers arrived to Finland and helped our legal government win the civil war against communists. Since it finnish jägers were our army´s officer base with close Wehrmacht connections and our army was organized german way.
The biggest enemy in WW2 was Russia. Hard to believe they choose to fight along side the English and her colonies and the USA. It should have been Germany, England and the USA against Russia. Just my 2 cents.
What the fuck you people are talking. You dont know anything about Finlands history, we have always been in wars and almost everytime it has been Russia and we had to fight the winter war all alone without help from france or uk. You think we had choice? Only choice we had was be allie of German. German has always helped us. German and Estonia is our "best friends". If somebody deserve the place in this world its Finland.
Why i hate nazis? Do i really must excplain?. Either you are very young or you have just missed history lessons at school! About Finnish SS. They were waffen SS. Not Allgemaine SS. Waffen SS had hunreds of thousands russians too.
If my country was attacked by Russia, I whod make a pact with the devil to defend it, Nazis or any one dont matter. Any help that I can get are good help!
What i have learn about ww2 and Finlands part of it, is that the fact that we joinend axis defacto. Not in a political , but military. Finland was the only democtratic country to join German/Barbarossa. But it was a wise cdecicion. We managed to save our indepence. We paid a price. About 10% osf our territory. So we kinda WON TEH WAR. btw. Nothing is easier to say: u shouldn't done this or that. Finlands destiny was in edge of the knive during that time. And i hate nazis!!
I bet there were fewer finnish waffen SS soldiers than they were Bosnian Muslim waffen SS, the SS Handschar, or the Albanian muslim SS Skenderbeg
you had more Waffen SS soldier coming from occupied western european countries than they were from Finland
the nazis didn't help Finland other than they needed more soldiers for their Russian campaign, they even fucking granted Bosnian Muslims "aryan status" as long as their fought on their side.
There was about 2000 Finnish waffen ss soldiers and they were good. Himmler words " Where is Finnish Waffen SS soldiers the enemy will lose" And dont you start insult Finland. We hold Russia 1 year alone, you think Romania, Hungy or Croatia would have done the same? No.
@kapteeni45 Bravo, finally someone telling the truth! :) I hate nazis, I hate Soviet Union, I hate war. I've never had a problem admitting we were defacto Axis, anymore than I have problems understanding why it was so.
And fucks about that! Finns never joined axis. In 1941 war wasnt going wery well, and finns needed to answer German equimpments. And Hitler said finns are now war with German.
Actually thats not true Finland would have go alot of territory from karelia if German's had won the war.
Molotov Agreemend was that Germans dont intervene the war from political reasons
Finnish people were considered to be Finno-Ugric people like in Hungary and Estonia we would live in Finland & Hungarians in Hungary right now with lot of more territory of karelia.
Germans Burned lapland that was part of tactical withraw also Germany or Finland didint declare war to eachother.
Finland stopped advancing because we are very stubborn people, but mostly farmers at arms during that time and very proud of their land. After we got back what was ours, willingness to push forward wasn't as high as when defending what was ours before Winter War. I only know what my grandparents told me and there probably were other good reasons too, but truth was that we are not people who conquer. We know what is ours, and we bleed to the last drop for that. No more.

Puna-armeija tuhosi Saksan armeijan mutta ei pärjännyt pienelle Suomen armeijalle? Taisi olla kiire Berliiniin
LedZe93 3 weeks ago
@LedZe93 Keskitysleirit...kyllä, mitä siviileille olisi sitten pitänyt tehdä, tappaa? Surkeiden olojen perustana on vuosien 1941-42 nälänhätä.

During the Winter War the British and French were getting ready to come to the aid of the Finns but the war ended before they could do so. What an interesting scenario that would have provided. If the Brits & French had done it in time they would have been at war against Germany AND the USSR. Would the Soviets have been attacking the Allies in France alongside the Germans in 1940, or would the Western Allies have made a deal with Hitler to turn on the Soviets then. A big what if in history.
dancinkindofguy 1 month ago 4
@dancinkindofguy I remember reading about this dilemma somewhere. If I remember correctly the western allies did NOT want to get involved at all and it was a diplomatic nightmare to still remain in good terms with both Finland and USSR. Nobody wanted a war with the USSR, only Germany's leadership was crazy enough to do so.

OnlyLifeMatters 4 months ago
@OnlyLifeMatters The russkies did strict plans to occupy Finland in 1941 and moved troops for that purpose. The bombing of Helsinki and other cities was an offensive and planned move. It´s true that the Finns had also "choosed" or were forced to choose their side at that stage. But politically the Axis and Finland had very different goals.
Germans of course wanted to bind Finland to them and their wargoals, so this kind of News were natural to them. But Finland refused to sing the Axis pact
PohjolaNorden 3 months ago
@OnlyLifeMatters Finland wasnt part of the Axis. To be part of the Axis, you have to sign Tripartite pact. Finland never did->Finland was never part of the Axis. Finland WAS allied with Germany though, but that dosent make Finland being part of the Axis.
JohQx3 3 months ago
@JohQx3 It probably feels good and relief to you to say that. But it only works in theory. Finland in fact signed Antikomitern treaty with Japan and Germany, which, made us a close ally to Germany. In practice Finland was one of the closest cooperators of Germany during the war, no matter how we wanted to turn it upside down. While not legally part of Axis, we were that in very practice. It would be hypocrite to deny it.
OnlyLifeMatters 3 months ago
@OnlyLifeMatters Good and relief? Hmm...not really. I'm proud that we were allied with Germany. After all there really wasn't any other choice... UK, US and France were allied with USSR. Germany and Finland had common enemy, USSR. ''My enemies enemy is my friend.'' I don't deny Finland's alliance with Germany, but Finland and Germany had very different goals in the war. Finland wanted her territory back, Germany wanted to get rid of communism and ''subhumans''.
JohQx3 3 months ago
@JohQx3 Well, Finland did want to create "Greater Finland", not just retrieve the lost territory...one plan was that the Arkhangelsk Oblast would belong to Finland, alongside the northern St. Petersburg and Karelian Republic. It was a huge vision for Finnish war command, and if Wehrmacht would've crushed Moscow, that kind of Finland would exist today.
Finland had 8 concentration camps, and to these camps "non-finnic" people, who didn't qualify, were transferred alongside Soviet soldiers.
OnlyLifeMatters 3 months ago
@OnlyLifeMatters Greater Finland...Dream of certain nationalist movements in Finland but not goal of Finland as a nation. I do agree that if USSR wouldve fallen, Greater Finland would've existed, but that wasnt main goal of Continuation war. Concentration camps? Umm..so? Wouldve brutal execution of POWs and civilians been better then? ''Non-finnic'' people are civlians of Finnish occupied Soviet territory. There wasnt any ''racical separations'' inside Finland.
JohQx3 3 months ago
@OnlyLifeMatters The camps you mentioned were normal internment camps. The reason Soviet civilians could be interned was purely based on military situation (Finland had not much troops to secure the area). The foreign inspectors (Swedish, Swiss etc.) that visited the camps reported no humanitary problems (and no Zyklon-B as you probably think).

Very interesting.
hectorbolshevik 8 months ago

IustitiaPax 7 months ago
Making this clear: Finns joined the axis because they had a common enemy = The russia who stole bits of land from Finland. The finns just wanted their land back and nothing more. It was the fucking moron Stalin who started it all, Stalin who was much worse killer than Hitler. Stalin killed millions of hes own people, he was a fucking retard. The axis lost just because they had too many "fronts" at war, if only commies or only west, they would have won the war(s).

Finland signed the anti-comintern pact.
Finland was never a axis power.
Maverick110290 2 years ago 49
This comment has received too many negative votes show
if they signed anti-comintern pact, they signed alliance against Soviet Union. If they are against SU, they are axis and f*cking nazi ass-lickers
Scoutrussp7 1 year ago
Signed a pact, sure.
Against USSR, sure.
Axis and and nazi ass-lickers?
Finland was the only free democratic country in Europe through out the entire World War that was not occupied and did not have a change in goverment. Also, keep in mind that both Winter and Continnuation War were conflicts between Finland and USSR, and happened at the time of WW2, but were compleatly independent wars.
And, in 1945, we fought against the germans in the War of Lapland.

@Arkticus Nonsense .. what about Britain, Ireland, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Switzerland ... ???
burnt62 1 year ago
@burnt62 Ireland, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Swizerland and Spain never took part in the war.
And as for Britain isn't it a parlamentarist monarchy or something?
Arkticus 1 year ago
@Arkticus I agree but if you note your original comment you did not make this point. Regards
burnt62 1 year ago
@burnt62 That partly the point I was going for, but I guess I did not make it clear enough. I apologize.
So to make it perfectly clear for everyone:
In Europe, Finland was the only dmocratic nation that took part in the conflict and did not have a change in goverment or get occupied by a hostile nation.
We were NOT nazis, and our wars were always for our own survival, freedom and Independence.
Arkticus 1 year ago
@Scoutrussp7 So let's say, USSR was in war against Finland, and was allied with the Great-britain, USA etc. So does that make Russkies Brits and Americans ass lickers? Wiht your logic yes! Go hide yourself you imbesil commie...

If Nazi-Germany had won the war against the Sovjets and offered Finland more territory, they would not had accepted. Never!!
Strutter1980 2 years ago
I have a book told the Germany plans for future Finland would have gotten rather big territories also there were talking that Finland maybe have Estonia too there was alot of Suursuomi (Greater Finland) talking in 1941 also many Finnish propaganda song lyrics are for taking more territory. Since Finland's first territories are little bigger than before Winter war just to tell all users from here
Kuula10 2 years ago
What is your book? It was also Hitlers propaganda, when he tried push finnish war effort. The finnish leaders had doubts of those talks and also to the matter itself.
The finnish wartime songs were mostly propagandist at all. They just were songs about trenches and military men and women. I don´t know any with direct demand of territories. "Uraliin" to the Urals is a funny song, but it tells about finnish invasion and how the russians flee behind the Urals. Is there more?
Mainilanlaukaisija 2 years ago
I have Cd about Finnish war propaganda songs called MOLOTOHVIN KOKTAILI - propagandaa levyillä 1940-42 it has some songs very agressive some are just too hilarious. Well we dont know for sure what would have been the Finns territorial gains but i think only that can be trusted is the plans Finland and Germany made.
Kuula10 2 years ago
Oh that one, I got it too. The best songs are in my opinion "Kremlin Uni" , a dream of Kreml and Uraliin, they are just funny. In that CD you also find out that most of the songs are not agressive at all, they are just made to keep people in good temper.
Mainilanlaukaisija 2 years ago
The most agressive songs, if I remember right, were not wartime songs at all originally, and they were not even played much in the radio, because people didn´t like them. They were used in small group right wing activists meetings. I mean songs like "Beetween the eyes to the ruskie". Still don´t know any song concerning territory demands.
Mainilanlaukaisija 2 years ago
Yeah, "Between the eyes" was pretty rough for a Finnish war song, honestly I don´t think even Germans had so blatantly anti-Slav/Russian songs. But I have to admit it´s pretty darn good song. ;)
torhjelm 2 years ago
The territoral gains were sketshed by the army. The minimum wes to get back the Soviet occupated Karelia and the maximum was about that were the finnish army were in the trench warfare time, read = East Karelia. Politically even that could have been difficult to the Social Democrats which were the biggest party. They were basicly pasifists and the crossing of old border was difficult to them.
Mainilanlaukaisija 2 years ago 3
Look at the Greater-Finland, Suur-Suomi map in wikipedia or something. If the Germans would have agreed to give us part of the conquered land why would we refuse? As a sign of goodwill to Soviets? The Winter War was still in bitter memory after all...
Aqnde 2 years ago
I can tell you that in Wiki there is in this case real amateaur work. We know that there was a small extreme right (with few per cent popularity) who kept this ideology alive. Those maps are mostly bullshit.
Mainilanlaukaisija 2 years ago
For example Estonia proposed many times union with Finland, but Finland refused. In extreme right there really existed on thing. They wanted to free the eastkarelians from communist opression, but you cant find East-Karelia as it´s own entirety at all. And as much you find that the borders are wrogly drawn.
The only real question was East-Karelia. One thing that made also that question real was that the ruskies shooted 34000 eastkarelians in years 1937-1938.
Mainilanlaukaisija 2 years ago 2
The finnish army had 3 different plans for Soviet land consessions and in the largest plan was East-Karelia included to the Greater-Finland. There never was any other plans.
Still I don´t think that finnish leaders wouldn´t mind if empire of evil would have collapsed.
Mainilanlaukaisija 2 years ago
Finland never joined the axis. The axis countries had a different goal than Finland, but they had a same enemy.

Just my 2 cents.
ajaxfan34 2 years ago

FinalWar1444 2 years ago
Well! Calm it down!
And i hate nazis!!
kapteeni45 2 years ago
why do you hate nazis if they helped you ? you are not logical. what about all of the finnish waffen ss soldiers ?
FinalWar1444 2 years ago
you are not logical
I bet there were fewer finnish waffen SS soldiers than they were Bosnian Muslim waffen SS, the SS Handschar, or the Albanian muslim SS Skenderbeg
you had more Waffen SS soldier coming from occupied western european countries than they were from Finland
the nazis didn't help Finland other than they needed more soldiers for their Russian campaign, they even fucking granted Bosnian Muslims "aryan status" as long as their fought on their side.
WASPTexas 2 years ago
There was about 2000 Finnish waffen ss soldiers and they were good. Himmler words " Where is Finnish Waffen SS soldiers the enemy will lose" And dont you start insult Finland. We hold Russia 1 year alone, you think Romania, Hungy or Croatia would have done the same? No.
ArDeZe 2 years ago
@kapteeni45 Bravo, finally someone telling the truth! :) I hate nazis, I hate Soviet Union, I hate war. I've never had a problem admitting we were defacto Axis, anymore than I have problems understanding why it was so.

There is some serious errors about how good friend the Reich was to Finns. They never were our friends. These are the facts:
1. So called Molotov Ribbentrop agreemend..German promised Finland to
russians
2. Nazis concired finns as untermenchen. non arials. If Germany had won the war, we all would now live in Siberia!
3. Germans burned the Lapland. Friends don't do that
FlightGroup Kuhlmey really helped Finns. That is true though!!.
kapteeni45 2 years ago 3
Actually thats not true Finland would have go alot of territory from karelia if German's had won the war.
Molotov Agreemend was that Germans dont intervene the war from political reasons
Finnish people were considered to be Finno-Ugric people like in Hungary and Estonia we would live in Finland & Hungarians in Hungary right now with lot of more territory of karelia.
Germans Burned lapland that was part of tactical withraw also Germany or Finland didint declare war to eachother.

fuck you. There were Finnish Waffen SS soldiers.
FinalWar1444 2 years ago
Finland stopped advancing because we are very stubborn people, but mostly farmers at arms during that time and very proud of their land. After we got back what was ours, willingness to push forward wasn't as high as when defending what was ours before Winter War. I only know what my grandparents told me and there probably were other good reasons too, but truth was that we are not people who conquer. We know what is ours, and we bleed to the last drop for that. No more.
Tombecho 2 years ago 3
I can only imagine what a basic Finnish farmer feels when hundreds of armored German soldiers march by his farm.
Kuhlfurst 2 years ago 2
Well, then you don't understand how the
Puerto Rican feels when he see's people
from Mexico running Swedish restaurants.
Even Gordon Ramsey says that Swedes
and food don't mix.
The Swedes during the middle ages learned to eat, 'feces'. In Sweden it was
considered better than filet mignon!
The Irish would piss in their canteen,
and offer it to the Swedes, they never
refused, they love 'golden champaigne.".
