Great video, I was there on Sunday, saw some ATV riders in that spot from the second half of your video. How do you access that spot where the ATV trail is from your video?
The idea is to capture the train on your video and not the trees. Either way Horseshoe Curve is not for real railfans. You might go there once in your life but most of the people there are clueless tourists. Real rainfans to the West Slope.
hey that a great shot there about 6 hrs from Altoona well i live near Buckeye Yard on Columbus, West side where the Cincy Line(sw) and W. Va Secondary split(se)
Thank you very much for the comment. I've never been to Ohio but I plan to get out there one of these days. i live in NY so the drive wouldn't be that bad.
Best two places in Ohio are Fostoria and Marion. Fostoria: CSX Pittsburgh-Chicago crosses CSX's Toledo-Columbus and both cross NS's Bellevue-Fort Wayne (Indiana). Marion has NS Bellevue-Columbus and CSX Toledo-Columbus crossing CSX (ex-Conrail) Cleveland-Indianapolis.
Nice job...

Did the curve used to have a 4th track between the farthest one in the first shot and the next track?

The curve was originally built with 4 tracks, 2 each direction. I do not know when the track was removed.

@hoser193 From the photo's and not wanting to bother with wiki I believe it was removed some time during the transition from steam to diesel.

Why bother shooting through a forest?

I don't see the big deal shooting the way he did. Through the trees you could see the front of the train in the distance. Pretty cool I though.
