The iPod is a revolution of how people listen to music. Our society is fixed on going with the culture. What Jobs, Ive, and Apple has done is coming up with a concept at the exact right time. Mp3 is a general phenomenon, but never before has it been presented in a simple and easy way for the consumer to use it. Before iPods, nobody had a grip on the Mp3 market. Honestly the singular iPod trademark is not a phenomenon, the mp3 in general is a phenomenon. The reason the sell so well is because of great outward appearance, great marketing, & social pressure. I myself have two iPod's and I enjoy them immensely but I can understand how people might see it that way because of the giant percentage of people using them.

I know a spoiled kid who got a 2000 GB Ipod that was wider than a normal ipod that the apple store ran out of ipods because the kid used up the hard drives there!

I was 9.... Also, at my school, instead of MP3 player, of Portable Music Device, they say iPods when referring to a "Music Player". And actually, the Zune is "better" than the iPod. You should look into the Zune a bit more, considering that you know nothing about it. Only thing iPod has that's better than the Zune is the scroll wheel.

ermm. no. The Zune is not better, I have used it. even the Zune 2 sucks, it's an iPod wannabe and it doesn't have all the extras that the iPod has and it's software integration is SHIT and the battery life of the darn thing is 20-22 hours (with wireless off) when Microsoft says that it has 30 hours, the classic gets 35 hours battery plus the wireless sync and the squirting features suck and not to mention the radio since nobody listens to radio anymore... AND IT'S STILL BULKY AND UGLY

Biased opinion and poor use of the device. In terms of Software, and Hardware features, the Zune kicks the iPods ass. Don't get me started on the radio thing... A shitload of people still listen to radio. Want to see that statistics, just ask. :P
