nice overclock i am just trying to figure out why my multiplier keeps changing from 10 to 6 by itself in this program but another it says i am oced at 3.3 ghz???
me too! i got evga nforce 750i sli ftw mobo, just set fsb to 1600, memory to auto and set voltage to 1.35 and whoop! 3.6ghz stable with my cooler master uh... shit i forgot name but it was only 35$
he must own a similar motherboard to mine, it has an lcd screen display pannel connected to the motherboard that lets you overclock it while the pc is on its an asus.
He is trying to protect you because your question reflects your knowledge on overclocking. Look it up online, do some homework. You will know the answer.
paul, you should use a program like Prime95 or Orthos to really stress your CPU. Its not really safe to call it a stable OC until you use a program like those, and I think 1.45v on 3.2ghz is an overkill :p
i can't get past 2.8 GHZ with 1.3 vcore. it fails to boot after that. then restarts and i lower the clock back to 2.8. and people say 3.0 GHZ is child play.... HELP ME PEOPLE>
i've gone up to 1.5 still no go. i've also upped the nb, sb, and all other increasable voltages. no boot. also, i tried to decrease ram frequency to make it 1:1 and it failed to boot. hella weird shit i got stuck with.
Try a BIOS upgrade. Some boards with old BIOSes (especially MSI ones) may fail to boot at 1333MHz FSB - for my P6N SLI, updating from 2.3 to 2.6 fixed this.
Also, if your Q6600 is an older B3, there is a chance that it won't reach 3.0. (B-series Conroes were never designed to reach 1333MHz FSBs.)
my bad, when i had tried to decrease the ram from windows it failed to boot. i did it from windows and it worked. at DEFAUlt vcore!!!. now i'm at 3.3ghz sorry 4 all the trouble
first of all, show me a stress test runnings 100% on all 4 cores, then give me a temp,..
My Q6600 can run 4Ghz on air...
But not above 60-70% load.. otherwise my cooler cant keep up... maybe it would in wintertimes... but summers are to hot.. anyway.. go for the stresstest..
umm yeh well my mobo 780i is designed for hardcore oc but im not sure about ur board.
make sure u got good heat paste like AC5 and then slowly oc like .10ghz at a time like 2.5ghz then reboot and see how ur computer likes it, run a stress test and a memority diagnostics test from startup, then keep going, i would say keep to a litit of 3.2 just to b safe.
ok thanks alot it will be my first overclock and i might just change the mother board depending on how much it will cost looking for about 140-200 bucks thanks tho!
New to overclocking but have tried to research as much as possible. Quick Question, is overclocking dependant on the motherboard also. Basically could I just replicate these settings (multiplier, voltage etc) for my own Q6600 even though my mobo may be a different brand/model? Or is it not that simple? Thanks in advance.
Hi, i have a asus striker II formula and the Q6600 G0 step. I've overclocked it to 3.1 and ran the prime95 test for 10 hours with out any problems, but my computer get a blue screen and restarts when i watch movies. The error message says " IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL "
I have Samsung 800 MZH mem runing in sync mode and with the timings 5-5-5-12 HELP!
hi could you help me out i binstalled my core 2 quad today i have cpuz it only shows 2 cores not 4 do i have to do something in the bios this has go me puzzeld thanks
if you are running a 32 bit o/s then it's probably that, your motherboard might not be able to handle quad core or the motherboard could even be faulty. I'm not sure if that's right as I have never had that problem, but I can't think of anything else it could be.
It's a matter of luck...you might be able to if it's the G0 version and you have a good air flow around the stock cooler. Turbulence of the air flow can mess things up. If you put your computer into a refrigerator it can be overclocked even more with the stock cooler - at least until your refigerator becomes hot inside...LOL...get yourself a better air cooler and > 3.2GHz should be no problem.
going to 3.0 ghz on a quad core just set the FSb to 333 and your done. No need for any after market cool or refrigirrator (wtf) for that matter. You'll idle at around 30C on the intel cooler. I hvae arctic freezer 7.. and i idle at 28 C for 3.5 ghz overclok and 60C under load during the prime95 test.
I really doubt that. Even with a premium air cooler (Zalman CNPS9700) and one of the best overclocking cases (Antec 900) I still get above 80C at 100% load on all 4 cores on my Q6600 G0 (3.6GHz). Did you truly run at full load on all 4 cores. I get around 60C with two cores at 100% (using Orthos).
Hey i used prime 95 because it natively utilizes all 4 cores. orthos needs some tweeking to do that.. so ill try it later.. yeh i get 60C after 8 hours of stress test and 28ish for idle. I set the FSB to 389 and the memory DDR3 1557 mhz... Also stable using memtest.. When i had it set to 3.6 400 FSB it was unstable with 1600Mhz memory. i don't know. lol i kinda new to this.. my 1st build.
I have the g0 also. so 80C is just way too high..no way am i gonna risk that; have antec case with 5 fans.
Start two instances of the Orthos application. Open the Task Manager application and select Processes. Then right click on the first Orthos application and select "Set Affinity..." to run on the core 1 and 2 only. Do the same with the second Orthos application and make that run on the 3 and 4 only. With a Zalman CNPS 9700 cooler and Antec 900 my Q6600 G0 is running right at the edge at full load with 3.6GHz...I believe 3.6GHz is as far as you can go with a good air cooler on Q6600 at full load.
if a got a desent cooler for mine im runing it shelf clocked but i would really love to get it up to 3.2 or 3.4 or higher my cooler is a masscool cpu fan with copper heat sink with a asus p5n-e sli mobo and u say u get 3.8 stable well what kind of cooling do u have also what kind of mobo do u have and what are the bios it at 3.8 also full bios im talking fsb ghz everything ty
well i used to have the p5n-e sli with a c2d e6600 wich i was able to clock to 3.6 stable. that was just setting the fsb to 400 (400x9=3600). i think i had to up the voltage to 1.45 or something. When I got the Q6600 i was only able to overclock it to 2.6ghz. this is because the p5n-e sli only has a 4 pin cpu power connector wich is just not enough for a quad. so i got msi p7n sli mobo(it has an 8-pin). as for cooling, i use a thermaltake v1. but i am going to get a thermalright ifx 14.
how do you change the cpu voltages with the msi bios i keep trying to change but stays at zero =(, only voltage i can mess with is the north bridge...any help?
1. I need to know what bios your working with. Make sure you have the latest one, if the bios is red(not the usual blue) then it is very likely to be that bios version.
2. make sure you have the spread spectrum disabled.
3. Are you using DOT conrtol to overclock because that is quite useless.
4. Be sure to put the system clock mode to manual not linked.
Tom, if you live in Greenland I would say you might have a slight advantage when overclocking :-)
Some people living in areas with very warm summers realize that their overclocked dream machine starts becoming unstable at this time of the year. Mine runs 100% ok 3.6GHz air cooled 24/7 at under 30C room temp but if it gets up near 40C it clearly starts crashing.
I live in Alberta, Canada actualy. Also my computer is in the basement. It doesn't realy get over 25C down here. So yes, I do have an advantage then. I am actualy tempted to drill a hole to the outside and just running antifreeze outside. That would be some serious cooling during the winter. lol
I have a Q6600 still in default 2.4 installed in a mobo FOXCONN X38A, that suports FSB 1333, with 4GB DDR2 800 and i just wanna to overclock my Q6600...
QUESTIONS: 1-) How much Vcore should I incrise if I put the processor to work @ 3.0GHz????? Thanks people...
No, the software needed is usually already in your motherboard's BIOS. During boot you usually get prompted to press a certain key to get into the BIOS menus. There you might find settings for CPU clock, RAM timing, voltages etc. However, the range of settings in the BIOS and the motherboards headroom for overclocking varies greatly. Check the reviews online before you buy.
Hey, my first two cores on q6600 run at 51 degrees on idle and about 60 under stress test and it's only at stock speed (2.4ghz). If i slightly increase the cpu frequency my temps go up even worse under stress test to early 70's. Do you think my core temp .97.1 app is incorrect or do you think i have some fanning/power supply issues?
If the CPU temperature gets too high it can either be due to:
1. Contact between the CPU and heatsink is poor - use a good thermal paste and/or try lapping. Clean the surface well and use new paste always before applying or re-applying the heatsink.
2. Your cooler is running at too slow speed or is of poor/cheap design.
Ok thanks, also do you know what the normal limit is for overclocking a Q6600 with only the stock fans in place? Can you overclock the Q6600 without buying more fans?
It is in most cases extremely overclockable - but every single chip produced have different margins of "overclockability".
Your need for cooling depends on how much you overclock it. I chose the Zalman CNPS9700 air cooler for mine and found 3.6GHz to be running perfectly with it. I would say that going further up than 3.6GHz on a Q6600 G0 will be too risky without using water cooling simply because temperatures start to reach critical levels at that CPU speed during full load.
A CPU like Q6600 running perhaps at 160 watts of power at full load is making approx. the same heat as a traditional light bulb of 160 watts (only 3% of the energy you use in a traditional light bulb is light!). That's a lot of heat!
Is 2.6GHz really all you can get??? I get 3.6GHz (9 x 400MHz) with Zalman CNPS 9700 on my G0 Q6600 at 1.39V CPU voltage on Asus Maximus Formula motherboard running around 52C with zero problems.
guys, i have Q6600 with ABIT IP35pro mobo, and i have clock my cpu to 3.62GHz with aircooling, now i want to buy watercooling system to make it better my cpu... now i am using it on 3.2GHz without any problem :D
wow, not bad, dude its still a q6600 :) im not using the stock cooler tho, its the freezer 7 pro, so far im happy with it. im having problems finding good voltages for 3.5ghz on it tho.
Try go in the BIOS, You can get in by restarting your pc, and press F2 or TAB or Delete.. It says at the beginning of your Bios Post, Than you go to the Overclocking part, it depends on your BIOS, not all BIOS can Overclock :)
i dont get this... how did they dio it without entering bios.... i would call this a fake... cause thy dont give any info on how they did it, and what they did it with
i hear the 680i chipsets are really hot even when u dont OC anything....is that true with urs? did have to change thermal paste/cooler on ur north/south bridge??
no i havent had to change any thermal paste or cooling. Of course i am not using stock cooling though for my cpu. I have a thermaltake V1 fan, works very very good. So far no heating issues with mobo or anything...knock on wood!
yeah i was stuck between an asus and the board i have now, but i would seriously go with the 680i, when Nvidia comes out with the new 780i's there will be a driver upgrade for the 680i's which will allow you to have three-way sli! at least thats what i read. But 680i's r more futre proof..
lol i got my Q6600 to 3.6ghz on air but it wasnt stable :( but now its on 3.4ghz and its perfectly fine :)
nice overclock tho =)

4. Too high voltage on the CPU.
5. Too high CPU clock speed.

Ok thanks, also do you know what the normal limit is for overclocking a Q6600 with only the stock fans in place? Can you overclock the Q6600 without buying more fans?
Infiniteuphorix 3 years ago
Yes but the limit really is unpredictable. Your particular CPU has it's own overclocking headroom due to manufacturing tolerances.

Whats the program u used:O?

er...How do you guys overclock? i am getting a Q6600 soon? is it extremely overclockable? do i need watercooling?
mypillowtalks 4 years ago
It is in most cases extremely overclockable - but every single chip produced have different margins of "overclockability".
Your need for cooling depends on how much you overclock it. I chose the Zalman CNPS9700 air cooler for mine and found 3.6GHz to be running perfectly with it. I would say that going further up than 3.6GHz on a Q6600 G0 will be too risky without using water cooling simply because temperatures start to reach critical levels at that CPU speed during full load.
Petronilus 4 years ago
A CPU like Q6600 running perhaps at 160 watts of power at full load is making approx. the same heat as a traditional light bulb of 160 watts (only 3% of the energy you use in a traditional light bulb is light!). That's a lot of heat!

Fantastic !
I have q6600 with fucking box... oc is 2,6 GHz.
sebekbezel 4 years ago
Is 2.6GHz really all you can get??? I get 3.6GHz (9 x 400MHz) with Zalman CNPS 9700 on my G0 Q6600 at 1.39V CPU voltage on Asus Maximus Formula motherboard running around 52C with zero problems.
Petronilus 4 years ago
guys, i have Q6600 with ABIT IP35pro mobo, and i have clock my cpu to 3.62GHz with aircooling, now i want to buy watercooling system to make it better my cpu... now i am using it on 3.2GHz without any problem :D

is 29C @ stock speeds good? i got the q6600 Go slacr whats the temp safety limit with this?
nxmoparmatt84 4 years ago
G0 are much better than the B3(i have B3 :( ) and also you will see lower temperature, so you are ok even with the default aircooling :D
well, about the temperature, nearly 45-50 in idle situation, if you are using any program or a game nearly 70-75
christosk89 4 years ago
i mean °C not °F
christosk89 4 years ago
wow, not bad, dude its still a q6600 :) im not using the stock cooler tho, its the freezer 7 pro, so far im happy with it. im having problems finding good voltages for 3.5ghz on it tho.
nxmoparmatt84 4 years ago
Too bad, B3 Stepping, G0 ftw. And to all the people wanting to overclock, look around google, it's your friend.

Is there a video to show you how to Overclock ?
dannyng123 4 years ago
how do you open that page to look at the speed of the processor
uri112189 4 years ago
its a program called cpu-z just google that name and you should be able to grab it no problem

i got a XFX 680i Lt, and i wanna overclock my 2.40 quad, i really am not sure how to do it, and i was wondering if anybody could help!!!
cdelviscio 4 years ago
Try go in the BIOS, You can get in by restarting your pc, and press F2 or TAB or Delete.. It says at the beginning of your Bios Post, Than you go to the Overclocking part, it depends on your BIOS, not all BIOS can Overclock :)
Vortex93 4 years ago
i dont get this... how did they dio it without entering bios.... i would call this a fake... cause thy dont give any info on how they did it, and what they did it with
nrgdrx 4 years ago
It is a gigabyte P35-DQ6 motherboard. Gigabyte has a utility that allows you to OC your system from within windows.
pontiacbonny 4 years ago
You didn't overclock it using the BIOS?
Saiyukimot 4 years ago
hi , wich motherboard have u used to overclock this cpu?
larsjuh94 4 years ago
with nvidia's 680i mobos you can overclock these quads like a charm! i have an EVGA 680i mobo and got mine to 3.2ghz very easily
sedohrj87 4 years ago
i hear the 680i chipsets are really hot even when u dont OC anything....is that true with urs? did have to change thermal paste/cooler on ur north/south bridge??
Jimm0r 4 years ago
no i havent had to change any thermal paste or cooling. Of course i am not using stock cooling though for my cpu. I have a thermaltake V1 fan, works very very good. So far no heating issues with mobo or anything...knock on wood!
sedohrj87 4 years ago
lol ic
still cant decide if i want a p35 or 680i tho:(
Jimm0r 4 years ago
yeah i was stuck between an asus and the board i have now, but i would seriously go with the 680i, when Nvidia comes out with the new 780i's there will be a driver upgrade for the 680i's which will allow you to have three-way sli! at least thats what i read. But 680i's r more futre proof..
sedohrj87 4 years ago
680i, better support features

I have just bought a intel core 2 duo quad q6600 2.4GHz how do you over clock it?
jmleather 4 years ago
wow
CharlietoKind 4 years ago
Is it stable? Thats what counts...
ish718 4 years ago
Yes it is, it runs great at 3.2GHz no problems at all. Things start to get squirrly around 3.4-3.6GHz
pontiacbonny 4 years ago
I used vista in this video, but have had the same results with XP pro.
pontiacbonny 4 years ago
does q6600 work better with xp or vista?
Maz1989 4 years ago
it will be the same .... opperating systems cant limatate or increase prosessor from running aswell ..

what did u use to overclock it
