How do you launch and evo/awd car. I'm only 18 and the only stick car I've driven is my dads 2010 camaro ss. I can launch the ss perfect, but how do you launch an evo without dumping the clutch or bogging out.
@mazda6tuner99 You have to feather the clutch. Takes some practice and getting use to. RWD is easy to just dump it but hard to put down a 60' time in the quarter mile. Same with front wheel drive. Really what has to be done with any car wanting to do a good lunch is to pre-load the drivetrain so you don't brake anything. I don't drag race much but my best launch in my Evo is a 1.71 60' I've only been 2 to the strip and made about 8 passes total. I would just say go out and practice in a car.
dude.. how is the fitment of the rear arches..? ive been looking for a long time to buy a set to fit my carbon evo. but im afraid its TO much modifications?
@rdlx3m Fitment is pretty good on the voltex ones. I hear the knock offs need a little work to get them to fit pretty good. I cut my rear quarter panels so I could fit wider more aggressive wheels. If you don't cut your quarters you can't lower your car or you will run really bad. I cut off about 2-3" out of the quarts and have no rubbing issues :)
rayray891- this is a 2 step setup. 2 step is not for just NA motor cars. Anti lag well true Anti lag is what Rally cars use. Not a lot of people run a TRUE Anti lag setup. One reason why is its bad for the turbo and ruins the turbo. My tuner could explan more if you dont believe me but this is just a aggressive 2 step not a real Anti lag setup. I did try out the semi Anti lag setup on my Aem Ems and it builds a lot more boost and is a lot louder.
Its programed into the tune of the car. Stock Evo ecu's can do it but I have a AEM EMS system that can do it as well. Basically its a set RPM that when you are in first gear not moving you can mash the throttle down and it will only go to that set rpm. Mine is set for 5750 RPM's My Car's rev limiter is set for 9000 tho. tuning the 2-step to go to this set rpm and adding a little fuel helps build boost. I am able to build 12psi with out a load on the motor. Helps for launching ;)
@DallinFelton21 true but do you know how the 2 step actually works? i know i do. @coast2coast91 a 2step true it is a rev limiter.. it holds it at the set rpm. while doing this it fattens up the fuel mix and spins the turbo by pushing unburnt gasses (huge flame) threw the hot side of the turbo thus building boost. and that's also why most cars with a 2step backfire.
You don't have to since its a Over fender for the Rear. But to run Flush aggressive wheels with out rubbing and to be able to lower the car from its Stock Rally car height you should do a aggresive rear fender roll or cut some out. I cut mine so I could run the widest wheels and biggest tires as possible. I didn't weld anything but I did bond the quarter panle and inner fender together in stead of welding. I didn't want to warp it at all with the heat from welding.
Well if thats what you think it sound like lol Its the Rev limiter hitting a certain set RPM to help build boost for more power off the line. My car was set at a 5700 rpms Rev limiter and could produces about 5-7psi of boost. I later set up a semi anti-lag like on rally cars and drag race cars and bumped it up to 5900 rpms and made anywhere from 10-15psi. It just depends.
I had another Evo that was mostly stock but sold it to pay of debt. I want another one again now and I want a Clean Stock Ride. This one is just for fun :)
@DallinFelton21 Anyone that's into Evo's that sees my car usually wants it once they see the odometer, but I absolutely love driving it when I actually take it out for a weekend so I usually say no. I originally wanted to make it a streetable time attack car, but being out of work doesn't help pay for that.

@DallinFelton21 Without going to check the odometer I'd say aroud 3.5k miles, probably less. Which is insanely low for an '06 one owner car. I keep it washed and shiny, sadly not enough garage space for it due to the fact that my Corolla hatch is in the garage for the time being. 25 year old cars have a greater tendency to rust than 4 year old cars do unfortunately. Plus I like going out to wash my Evo, so that gives me a reason to keep up on the exterior maintenance.

Thats funny you say that. I sold about a year ago my JDM Evo 4 that I had. I miss it but I really wanted to get a 5 and lost my job. So I kept this one and am back in School again.
I like the Do-Luck kit a lot too. But thats a little to much for me. I love the Voltex kit and I miss being one of the first and only ones to have this kit a few years ago but now there are more and more of them :( should have gone Do-Luck still very few of those around ;)
@DallinFelton21 I agree that Do-Luck is spendy, but you just don't see that kit often in the states. Unfortunately with a Do-Luck kit I'd never want to take it out because if someone hit it I'd probably kill them.

BC 272, stock Gears,yes AEM EMS, and a 04 Evo 8. AEM takes 2 to 3 engine cycles to start unlink a Stock ecu that takes 1 to 2. Thats why it takes longer to start. If I had my Tuner spend more time fine tuning the car then It could start up quick but its really no biggie :)

A lot of people are a little over the top with how bad the tranny is. Its really not that bad. a friend of mine Tracked his IX MR for 2 years sold with about 400 whp on every open track day and still doesnt have any problems. But I also here that low 400whp is about the trannies max. Are you on EvoM forums yet?

The Kit is a Voltex Wide body kit. Voltex front bumper, side skirts, rear quarters, and rear diffuser. The Front fenders are Garage HRS they are a part of the Voltex company.
That Voltex wide Body kit is worth $6k with no paint.. The Front bumper is like $1,500... Really looks nice on a Wicked White Evo... My friend also has this kit, and it's been on Modified Mag on April 2009..
Ya its pricey lol Its just a really well designed and functioning kit unlike most that are for looks mainly. It is also a very limited kit so not many of them made.

lol I do still have the car its coming out in a magazine this month actually :) The Voltex Diffuser only fits a JDM 9 rear. Car is getting a make over right now for next year ;) and I am probably keeping it for a long time :)
Stock Evo 9 and 8 bumpers are pretty much the same thing. The JDM 9 is different. Need to mod or remove the Rear bumper beam but the JDM 9 bumper cover does fit ;)

BC 272, stock Gears,yes AEM EMS, and a 04 Evo 8. AEM takes 2 to 3 engine cycles to start unlink a Stock ecu that takes 1 to 2. Thats why it takes longer to start. If I had my Tuner spend more time fine tuning the car then It could start up quick but its really no biggie :)

Very nice body kit indeed... Thanks to you I just discovered Voltex. Of course I knew the Cyber Evo but never looked for parts list. The nicest I've seen so far.
I betrayed my Subaru family an getting my Evo IX MR in two weeks. Just hope the 6-speed tranny holds on cause everybody seems to say it doesn't last long when tracking.
Can't wait to see what you'll do next with the car. It will take a while before getting mine to this point...

Haha your Welcome man. I wish I had a MR for DD its much nicer and get much better gas mileage too. They are fine for most people. A lot of people are a little over the top with how bad the tranny is. Its really not that bad. a friend of mine Tracked his IX MR for 2 years sold with about 400 whp on every open track day and still doesnt have any problems. But I also here that low 400whp is about the trannies max. Are you on EvoM forums yet?

I personally like my Wide body kit. I have it because I like it and it is actually a FUNCTIONAL one. Improves aerodynamics unlike a lot of kits out there that are more for looks. @johntran No I still have The Evo ;) I sold my other one So I could keep this one. and its getting a whole new Makeover right now so it will be different this Summer ;) Evos are awesome cars just dont get in over your head because it is easy to get carried away with doing lots of mods and going for lots of power lol Its a Addictions Problem :D

Well thats just your opinion too lol Personally I like wingless Evos and Same with STI's I think the cars look better with now big wings on them. Some people like them some people don't. All that that means is that the People that like wingless will buy my car when the time comes and not those that don't want it because it doesn't have a wing ;) I actually have a wing but its more for Track only not really something I would like for Driving around town with ;)

I ride with no wing on my evo.... In cali you dont want to get pulled over for any reason in an evo. 3 years with a full Ti exhaust and no tickets yet. Wingless FTW.

The Kit is a Voltex Wide body kit. Voltex front bumper, side skirts, rear quarters, and rear diffuser. The Front fenders are Garage HRS they are a part of the Voltex company.

That Voltex wide Body kit is worth $6k with no paint.. The Front bumper is like $1,500... Really looks nice on a Wicked White Evo... My friend also has this kit, and it's been on Modified Mag on April 2009..

When u "had" the car, how did u install the rear diffuser. Did u need the jdm rear bumper, or can u have the stock original.

lol I do still have the car its coming out in a magazine this month actually :) The Voltex Diffuser only fits a JDM 9 rear. Car is getting a make over right now for next year ;) and I am probably keeping it for a long time :)

Stock Evo 9 and 8 bumpers are pretty much the same thing. The JDM 9 is different. Need to mod or remove the Rear bumper beam but the JDM 9 bumper cover does fit ;)
