It is good that it doesn't, IMHO. When I am setting, I don't hold the device vertically, but more like horizontally. If a small flipping changed the orientation, it would be acting against what's expected really.
Thank you for emailing the Nokia Care Contact Center.
In response to your inquiry about the sensor or accelerometer of your Nokia 5800, we would like to inform you that the standard way of using your accelerometer is to have it on its side perpendicular to the floor. Given the circumstances, the accelerometer of your Nokia 5800 is some what affected when its tilted at a certain angle. The mechanism inside cannot move back to its original position, thus, preventing the screen to rotate
Same firmware here, I have here that same "problem" from day 1 (RM-428 phone).
That "problem" I think it's because of the not soo advance gyroscope on the phone, I belive that it only "reads" the vertical axis when the phone it's not in horizontal position.
If you put it just a little in horizontal, you need to "tilt" the side of the screen just a little with your finger for the sensor to come down via inertia and recognise the rotation.
My english it's like sh*t but I hope you understand it ;)
Hi this is my new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic which I bought directly from store.nokia.com, This has been bugging me ever since day 1 when the phone arrived. It seems to be the sensors / accelerometer. Everytime I rotate the phone to the left the sensor won't respond unless I tilt it towards me. But when rotate it back up to the right it responds but when I rotate it back to the left again it won't follow unless I tilt it towards me. is this normal? or is defective?
