Hwy 152 over Pacheco Pass was known locally as "Blood Alley" back in these days. A very treacherous piece of road. Most of it was improved to a four lane divided highway in the 1960's, but some of it is still two lane undivided. I still avoid if I can. Pretty scenery though.
This is absolutely fantastic...... what is the "old 99" that sideslide talks about? Was it routed on the current I-5????? There are some clues in these videos as to where your grandfather was on the highway (signs etc) --- it would be interesting to go back and see how the sites have changed..... in some rural places, not so much I think.....
@fakemustash: The "Old 99" is California State Route 99, formerly US 99. Much of the old route has been slightly bypassed through the Central Valley cities for the modern freeway.
