I can't see the total gym being effective for leg workouts. I just picked up a weider total bodyworks 5000 which is like the total gym but has resistance bands which attach to the board. Without them at full incline every leg exercise I do I have to do a good 30 reps to feel a burn. I attach all 5 resistance bands and I'm struggling by my 10th rep. If you don't have the cash for a higher end total gym that can add weights I suggest the total bodywroks 5000. Great for leg workout.
you would get alot better workout if you could stop bottoming it out. Go down without out hitting the bottom. You rob the purpose of the leg exercise by hitting the bottom.
Where do you get the total gym? I like that you can do the workouts while somewhat laying down - I bet that is really helpful. I just got an exercise thing with similar resistance band handle things so this definitely inspires me to try stuff with it.
@ChanShelly I went to the Total Gym website and bought it from there. It was really expensive but I made payments on it. I will say though, they took out more money per month than I agreed to. I was quit mad about it because my account was overdrafted. Part of the Total Gym has already broken and I called to say so. The lady on the phone told me that her manager would call me back. 3 days have passed and I still haven't gotten a call back. I do like the Total Gym, though.
@the4RESAU I have a chronic medical condition that doesn't allow me to exercise the way I use to be able to. I can't do much heavy lifting and most of my exercises have to be while sitting or laying down. The issue of if I have "balls" or not, well just ask people who know me. I happen to like tattoos a lot and I don't think I ruined my body with them but I can see where you are coming from. I would like to cover them for special occasions but for everyday life, I like them a lot.
This is interesting...I need to do what you are doing now Sarah because I got POTS I think after my figure skating injury. My legs were like rock, but after the injury it was gone, so my doctor was hinting for me to get that back. But I hear what you are saying, you were in top shape.
@potsinfo You are the figure skater! I told my boyfriend about you but I couldn't remember exactly which one of my friends on here was the skater. Thanks so much! It was bothering me that I couldn't remember. lol.
My heart Professor told me to do exactly this. Build up my legs so that it will keep the blood pressure up!!! This is the best for POTS!!! He told me that, veins are fragile and the more strenghth you have in the legs the better it is to keep the blood pressure up.
@potsinfo When I got POTS, my legs were the biggest they had ever been. I went to boot camp wearing a size 0 pants and then had to buy size 3 when I got out because my thighs just wouldn't let me pull my jeans up at all. I started having POTS symptoms a few months later. I was in really good shape. I am working on building them back up now.
@sarahdionna I was in really good shape when I got sick as well - dancing about 5 hours a day, and for ballet you HAVE to have major leg strength. I was actually getting ready for ballet the first time I passed out.
@ChanShelly I am trying to find as many people as I can that were in really great shape at the same time they got POTS. I am thinking there has to be some sort of connection between us. Once we find out what that connection is, perhaps we can work towards a cure or at least better manage our symptoms.
I'm glad you are doing so well! I keep meaning to start my exercise routine back up again so I can try to get off my meds. I was actually not on any when I was diligent with my program. Keep it up.
@potsiemommy Thanks! I have actually been really sick for the past couple of months. Saturday I went to the gym to video my boyfriend and I did 3 sets on the leg press but was too POTSy to do anything else. Just doing those sets made me feel really bad for the rest of the day. Then on Sunday I went back to the gym with him and did more. When I got home I decided to do the Total Gym as well. Just happened to be a good day. :)
@sarahdionna I hope you are able to get back to your exercise routine and that you can forever quit the nasty meds. I hate pills and I feel bad for anyone that has to take them. I still take a few here and there but I try not to. I wish you all of the best! :D
I totally want to do some sort of walk or marathon but walk in the marathon or use a wheelchair for part of it or something. I always dreamed of running a marathon but I doubt that will ever happen. lol.
That's great you can exercise on some days despite POTS! :) For now I can swim, row, and use the bike at the gym...my short term goal is a 3 mile lupus walk in April. I'm up to walking two miles for now, which is really good for me considering I've had to use a wheelchair the past few years. My new meds have helped me a lot!!! It feels so great to be able to exercise again!! Eventually, I hope to be able to do aerobics everyday like I use to. You go girl-lol!!! Take care ;0) --Cindy

I agree, you ruined your body with the tattoos. Makes you look like scuzzy. You'll fit right in a prison, though.
