First of all...The Exies are a Generic Rock band.. Compared to other rock bands such as Tool APC The Deftones System Of A Down.. etc...etc... They are just ordinary.. How many albums are on the chart lists? In my opinion they are a decent band...But not memorable.. So that's why they don't have millions of views and likes.. As for Gaga and Hannah Montana.. They are what I like to call...Shock and Awe Music.. They are very unusual and catchy. Gaga will be out of style as quickly as she came..

I think the song is about people who are "dirt" to the people around them. People who are supposedly horrible people, people who are alone and afraid because they've been called "ugly". The song is trying to tell those people that they're not alone. There are other ugly people out there.

The mid 2000's was a good time for breakthrough rock bands. Seether and Shinedown both broke through that year, Chevelle got bigger, System of a Down was growing, Korn was getting bigger, so was Disturbed. And then The Exies came out, with all these other great bands emerging it's no wonder they were overlooked.

Does anyone notice that between the newer and older stuff by the band, that in the older stuff the band members look more normal and relatable, and that the music is easier to connect with, it has more feeling behind it. And then in the newer stuff, the band got caught up with the pop punk style and the music feels empty. It sucks when a band changes themselves so much thinking it will make them better liked but it just distances them from their fans.

The lyrics "look closer, are you like me?" is a double entendre.The writer doesn't want you to look at the surface, but below it. The song is saying that those that use others and are addicted to some substance are ugly, not those with an unfortunate appearance. "A user, a lost soul//medicate me so I die happy" implies a reference to addiction.
