Unfortunately, no matter how cool this actually is, they become synchronized because of the fact they are all on a single flat surface and the momentum from the rest of the tickers makes one sync with the other and the rest follow in suit. I still quite enjoy this experiment. 5*
Actually the Tacoma bridge is quite different. In that case, the bridge responded resonantly to the driving wind. The over-arching theme there is resonance. Here, we have self-organized synchronization and resonance doesn't play any role. You are right in that both show organized collective behavior, but the underlying driver of that behavior is entirely different.

Well, while i did admitedly mean to say bet, technically bed is a verb and a noun, it can be used in the context of, "Let us to bed," Meaning "Let us go to sleep," Following the same line of thought, "I'm willing to bed," Also makes sence. Before critisizing, learn to speak English, oh, and if you were wondering, no i'm not in collage, i'm 15. Good luck getting anywhere in life when 15 year olds outsmart you.
Ahhhh I can't help myself!! While your intention is correct, bed can indeed be used as a verb, your example isn't. In that context bed is still a verb. It is only excluding the word "go," as in "Let us go to bed." For an example of it being used as a verb, consider, "I will bed you." Also, don't advise others to learn English when you yourself can't spell "criticizing," "college," or "sense."
This works because they start moving that board they are on back and forth. Once two of them are going at the same speed they cause the board to move with them, the board moving causes the other ones to move at the same speed as the board. Ergo, they all go at the same frequency.
yeah lol it is nice to use when appropriate, makes me feel smart to say it. Also save soem characters when posting on you tube (As opposed to typing therefore)
haha. good call. Who knows what randomness we'll be watching 15 minutes from now? I like to leave the first video I watch in a session open in a seperate window. When I'm done YouTubing I try to mentally recall how I got from the beginning to the end.
Without the use of Stumble upon I would've never found this cool random video (i don't literally mean random because there's probably a whole league of people who take this real seriously who would punish me in synchronized type torture)
You could force the lot to go into any resonance you wanted by grabbing the board and moving it with your hand in the beat you want them all to move to.
Look at one pendulum. When it swings to the far left and changes direction and moves right, the pendulum pushes itself to the left. Because they are all attached to the roller, the bodies are all pushed left. This dampens the pendulum weights moving to the left and accelerates the ones moving to the right. As it tends to cause the entire set to have the same net damping in the one direction, eventually they reach a stable point, which is where they are all in sync.
No, it should... it's called resonance. Each metronome provides a driving force to the others once you take them off a fixed surface kind of like a kid on a swing. Look up coupled resonance for more info. Neat nonetheless, seen it done with clock pendulums before.

No, as long as the weight of the cylinders remains the same in my opinion.
airdreamlove 3 years ago
if you used a cylander with a bigger diameter, would they sync up quicker?
vaultmantk 3 years ago
I think so. A larger circumference would provide a larger 'rock' for the same amount of rotation.
