@grindhouse141 i'm not having a go at the guy, he like scorsese i could listen to all day talking about film, i like him and i like his films, but i ain't been able to watch any of them since jackie brown on repeated views, basterds was a step in the right direction, i reckon django will be different.
@herpderpmonkey nah, they all do that. lets see what django unchained is like and then i'll stop complaining. just got a bit sick of stuff like deathproof and killbill. especially knowing how tarantino can make films as brilliant as pulp fiction and jackie brown. what's your favourite tarantino film, i do like his last one.
Say what you will about QT. He may not entirely be the most original director there is. Sure, his movies are filled to the brim with references to other material, which many have accused him of ripping them off. I'm a fan, and even I question his credibility for originality. However, I would love to just meet Tarantino one day at a bar, and just talk non-stop about movies over pitchers of Lager and hot wings. His enthusiasm over the cinema is infectious as hell!
Exactly! Hell, I'm a screenwriter myself, and my material isn't completely original either. Granted, the screenplays I'm writing contain characters I created, but the stories and style aren't quite innovative. But, I don't call it ripping off other artists; I see it as "walking in the footsteps of my heroes"
Same here! I may be only 15 but I do plan to write and direct my own exploitation films someday. You know, I feel like there's something to be brought to the table; something new and innovative in an unoriginal way. I love the idea of originality through un-originality. Presently, I'm developing the story and soon the screenplay for my own film. It's the combination of the "lone samurai" and "Man With No Name" roles from chanbara films and spaghetti westerns reincarnated into a '60s biker film.
Cool, dude. I'm 28 myself, and I can relate to what you're envisioning. There's nothing entirely wrong about "originality through un-originality." Hell, it's incredibly difficult (but not entirely impossible) to create something whole original these days. That being said, it's alright for us aspiring filmmakers to borrow and emulate our heroes' cinematic styles and touches; it's a necessary evil, basically. Good luck on your exploitation movie, btw
@CesMan83 Well, I wouldn't call it a "necessary evil". There's nothing evil about it. You know, exploitation films aren't very well known and weren't and still wouldn't be accepted by the general public. So referencing them is almost a good thing; it's a way of educating the ignorant population on artistic cinema. Sure, I'd heard a lot of the Morricone tracks prior; but I wouldn't have known their names without seeing Tarantino's films. Most of the songs I plan to use aren't well known either.
@herpderpmonkey Did it ever occur to you that possibly my username is troll bait?--and that Transformers aren't just the live-action Michael Bay summer blockbusters; that, maybe, Transformers is an entire brand like Star Wars? The '80s cartoon series, the Hasbro toy brand, the animated films, the comic books?
@herpderpmonkey Besides, the fact that you clearly don't know what "exploitation" means nor what exploitation cinema is just demonstrates your lack of film education. I've seen films from before your parents, maybe even grandparents, were born.
@Transformers2themax Yeah, because in society, the size of one's sex organ is much more notable than their intelligence or education on a subject...These people are perfect examples of the Darwin theory in reverse on the belt of a treadmill--as those of us who wish to educate ourselves jog across it, progressing and actually trying to be productive.
@CesMan83 Lol. Too bad we're merely two out thousands of fans. I for one plan to meet him someday so I can discuss with him if I can continue the throwback to exploitation cinema. I love artistic films, so...But yeah, I love Tarantino's work, but he sometimes just does not do what I want him to. I like little movie references; but, Quentin, DON'T HAVE THE CHARACTERS MENTION THEM...
Read a novel that was very Tarantino-esque. Had crazy characters like PULP FICTION that included a priest, a hitman, and a gay phone sex operator. It even had a character that seemed to be based on Tarantino himself. It was called THE SUICIDE GAME and I found it for free at smashwords . com. It was awesome.

@CesMan83 Thing is... despite all that, he is still far more original than most other directors.

@CesMan83 All artists take ideas from other films. Everyone does. People don't understand this until they start making their own art.
