  • great version this, said by many generations! that tells us everything about this song!! god bless rest in peace brother

  • You've gotta love the late Robert Palmer. How did this pale faced lad from Yorkshire aquire such cool and soul...I used to love watching him peform; slightly awkward but fully commited. A sad loss at just 54

  • @62philly it makes me sick that there´s so little information about him

  • The lyrics are more relevant today than they have ever been.

  • taken far too soon, r.i.p. robert x

  • amazing,great version

  • Ohh mercy mercy me aw music just ain't what it used to be.. RIP ALAN ROBERT AND BROTHER MARVIN:(

  • He was amazing.

  • Robert Palmer an artist who really lack in the world of show bisness, rest his soul among the angels

  • RIP, RAP. Miss your voice.

  • great singer...plus he had great fashion sense. RIP Mr Palmer

  • robert palmerのこれ結構好きです☆ミ

  • One of my all time favorites....great tribute....with a great self addition from mr. Palmer.....

  • I agree with Shazam, Robert does an incredible job.....Doing Marvin Gaye is borderline blastformy, but Robert shows a white guy can have soul

  • @rembrandtjr58 "BLASTFORMY"???????I looked that word up in the dictionary and it doesn't exist. Is it an English word or perhaps Croatian, Hungarian, etc.?

  • Way better than the Michael Mcdonald's covers, and this is from an avid fan of that man. Robert's voice is just fantastic in this. Love the quick transition to I want you.

  • Anyway, that's a great memory I have of Robert. Not to mention of course his many great songs that I love to this day. My heart still aches that he died before his time. His days of topping the charts were likely over, but it would have been great to be able to catch another show of his even to this day. I guess the best tribute someone can receive is to be missed...RP, you are missed.

  • I saw Robert Palmer perform in Orlando back in '97 I believe. It was July, and it was a blistering hot afternoon. He did a show outside at Downtown Disney, in his suit. I got there early so I could be close, and I was. He was fantastic, and he made me laugh when the heat began to get the best of him and he made a comment that only few could hear. He said something about "I wish I'd known it was going to be so bloody hot." He was pulling his shirt collar to try to let some air in.

  • savršenstvo za opuštanje,i razmišljanje o prošlim danima.

  • I LUUUUUUUUUUUUV YOU !!! ROBERT PALMER R.I.P

  • I LOVE !

    I LOVE !

    THANK YOU !

  • 54 people get no mercy, also have bad taste!

  • Kocham ...Tyle wspomnień z tą cudną piosenką.

  • A great singer and in my opinion he nailed this one.As close in my fav as any cover ever done. Maybe SRV and a Voodo Chile cover? Very nicely done

  • It's so sad that they're both no longer on this Earth!

  • great,just great...

  • A great song so much soul !!!

  • @KiranaForever you'll tell mr.Palmer himself how to sing this song...i'm sorry but who are you? Marvin Gaye probably? no? than STFU and enjoy or not depends...and lets drop this melancholy shit, i bet nobody wouldn't even have said anything if for example Barry White sampled this song...:|

  • Robert Palmer's passing on was so premature it took all of us off guard..RIP..sexy singer by far..

  • amazing song.

  • darling i love you.******* Thak you ChateauFighter for this nice song

  • Marvin was a gift from God and Robert worried about this recording for a long time - was it adding anything or doing the man justice. I think that in the end he (Rob) was just happy to keep Marvin alive through his release of the cover. Ironically it worked for me... I tracked back and bouhgt 4 marvins albums on the back of this recording... Love Roberts versions though alos - bravo!

  • RIP Robert you were a Legend. To even think of doing this masterpiece and then to do it so well.Fair dues to the man.

  • ah so good to chill out to this in the evening.

  • a great singer

  • One of the best COVERS in musical history !!! R.I.P Robert .

  • RIP !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I guess that old platitude rings true. The good always die too young.

  • He had a wonderful voice. His tributes are well appreciated.

  • AME Y AMARE A ESTE HOMBRE COMO EXCELENTE ARTISTA Y COMO HUMANO ADEMAS DE UN CARISMA UNICO !!!!!! TE VAMOS A EXTRAÑAR AMADO ROBERT !!!!

  • Gaye & Palmer do duets now.

  • Only a classy, cool-cat like Robert Palmer could do justice to such a beautiful song.

May you Rest in Peace Marvin & Rob.

  • piekny głos,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Robert Palmer gave justice to this original song of Marvin Gaye....Classy version!

  • I wonder why its not on itunes, love this version!

  • @chowbaby63

you gotta earn the vinyl, mister.

  • Was just thinking of this Homie. I miss that voice, R.I.P my friend.

  • No mercy on the 53 who don't like this...

  • Indémodable! Les années passent mais ce morceau ne prend pas une griffe!! Mercy Mercy...

  • @Jacqmain2le c'est vrai.

  • I love the mix of these two awesome songs!! Anytime I hear it, I just start dancing no matter where I'm at.....it is too bad that we had to lose both artists too soon!!!!

  • love this song

  • I love this version of this song, it's awesome!

  • I`m a lady and I just wanted to say seems to me its the guys that have the most passion and creative soul or we would`nt be able to listen to such beautiiful words and sung with so much depth of feeling

  • oyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoy ¡¡¡¡¡¡ los pelos de gallina ¡¡¡

  • Thanks for this addition. Mr. Palmer in an interview said he wanted to bring something new to Mr. Gaye's songs, a man who was one of his favorites. He did!

He was a constant music man.

    Blessings.

  • What a wonderful time! White, Black? It does not matter! Music above all! What a feeling and what a history and what a tribute! Thank you misters Marvin Gaye and Robert Palmer.

The politically correct will not kill you. FOR EVER.

  • thanks for posting , this man was awesome , Gone too soon.

  • 53 dislikes ? you idiots. this is a fucking classic!

  • And Robert Palmer too...

  • I love this song

  • now this is music!!!

  • Marvin Gaye would be proud of this incredibly well done version of two of his greatest hits...arrangements took tears from my eyes...great work, Mr. Palmer!! An ageless classic...

  • That first song "Mercy Mercy Me" is a terrific cover & couldn't be more timely with all that's going on in the world right now. Nuclear meltdown in Japan, Overfishing, Oil Spill in the Gulf, Mercury & other toxins in the environment...The list goes on & on. Sure hope we can salvage what's left of this planet before it's too late.

  • FANTASTIC SONG!!!!! Always got goosbumps every time I hear it;)

  • I love this song~

  • Ido love this mans music. never fails to put shivers down my spine

  • I love the music this man makes. SPINE TINGLING.

  • Touches your soul

  • tell ya one thing...Marvin Gaye had his hands on America`s pulse.

Mercy, Mercy Me----and What`s Goin` On---Listen to his words and look back at the Turbulent 60`s and see what I mean.

  • roy west

  • @benandkasia you sad sad person.......stfu

  • @benandkasia why dont you stfu...you sad sack!!!!!!!

  • It's a nice tribute. Not as good as the original(s) though.

Palmer has plenty to be proud of besides this.

  • Why does the great ones die. dam

  • Why does the great ones die.

  • Of course Marvin sang it better NO SHIT. But this is still very good!

  • He had such an unforgettable style and sound! I'm sure God is enjoying your beautiful voice in Heaven!!!!!

  • This is a great version of mercy me and I want you make no mistake and I'm a big Marvin fan.

  • I don't who sung the song first. I love this version. I can help but think about all the good music we missed out on from both Marvin and Robert. They both died way too soon.

  • I must say that i like this version more than original. Palmer is great :)

  • mslaceybra......you made me shed a tear tonite...........a good heart ........welcomed everywhere...especially in this world...going beserk

  • Robert was paying his respect to Marvin Gaye by covering his song and did a fine job rip my brother

  • @Caper1Forever Have to say...he really did a super solid job on this cover — covers can often be so poor — but this is aces all the way!!!

  • roy west

  • Geil !!!

  • Geil !!!

  • Thanks, ChateauFighter, for sharing this. What a great tribute to two incredible musicians. I've loved Marvin Gaye since the 60s. His music touched on all the issues of the time and his songs are still "current" to this day!!! Mr. Gaye & Mr. Palmer left us much too soon--but they left their legacy.

  • wow i love this song

  • HOW CAN SOMEONE DISLIKE THIS

KIDS OF THIS LITSIN TO OUR LOVLY SONGS THIS IS OUR TIME FULL WITH LOVE WORDS AND ROMNACE NOT HATNES LIKE YOUR FREAKING STUPID MUSIC YOUR YOU NEW MUSIC IS ABAUT SEX AND MONEY THATS ALL

  • Hit it Palmer! This song its AWESOME! In This version of Mercy Mercy Me, Robert Palmer gave it a little more taste to the song written by Marvin Gaye.

  • 1980's crooner, or arguably the best white soul singer England ever produced? The latter methinks. Miss you you Mr Palmer, you died too young & had so much more to offer, so sadly missed!

  • he was was a great singer, put this song over well, with his own style while keeping it pretty much the same, he was a class act ,always with the tailored suits, nice humble guy if you watch his interviews, RIP !

  • So young to die ...R.I.P.

  • I LOOOOOVE THIS SONG...listening it 10 times :) still hungry for mercy mercy Thank you very much Robert!

  • In my opinion there are just a two really interesting and natural sexy famous men: Robert Palmer (in his younger days) and (still) John Malkovich!

  • This is a great version, I heard so many people ruin marvins song but this just brings out more of it. I t sad robert is gone, i miss him and Power station!

  • rip robert palmer great artist

  • a Lot of Class ,Palmer, the Superb old good time,

  • @lancecolley You need to watch Marvin Gaye's singing of the national anthem at the 1983 NBA All-star game. He's the only singer to totally make the anthem his. Although I think that Robert Palmer is a great singer, Marvin Gaye mesmerized.

  • Robert Palmer's Arsenio Hall show live version is by far the best, this is great too...maybe if Chris Blackwell can get on the nominating committee for the RnR Hall of Fame we might see him get at least nominated as a performer... after awhile he'll have to be under early influences... he was eligible in 1999...one can only hope.

  • Miss you what a handsome and talented man, i grew up listening to his songs. Sleep Peacefully. gone but never forgotten.

  • OMG..... thanks to Terry, a Rotherhithe lad, I found this, and I love it and you foreverxxx

  • one of the greatest performers ever...

  • I simply love it.

  • The two songs are melded in such a beautiful way - tears to my eyes every time...

  • Robert Palmer was such a PHENOMENAL singer. Only he could re-do a classic Marvin Gaye song as well as he did! Way to go! I know it's an old song but It's still one of my all time favorites.

  • @Sidadressage Okay version. Marvin was light years ahead of Palmer vocally.

  • @luvureally Marvin was better as a songwriter, but not a vocalist.

  • @lancecolley Marvin could find notes Mr. Palmer could only dream of. He is using Gaye's arrangement, and even Marvin's vocal inflections. There is a video of Marvin rehearsing "I Want You" lying on a sofa and directing the band. It is flawless, nobody but Marvin could do that. "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby" & "I heard It Through the Grapevine" are two of best vocals ever recorded.

  • Too me is't still a great performans. Great singer and why did he died so early. Rest in peace.

  • what a wanker

  • I dont know about Mercy Mercy Me but I love this rendition of I Want You

  • mmmm Terry, Robert and Marvin - bet they're jammin' in heaven.....what a gig

  • GOD REST THIS MANS' SOUL...HIS VOICE LENT US A GREATFUL SOUND! GIVE US A WONDERFUL REMEMBRENCE......WE LOVE YOU.....THE SOUND WILL NEVER LEAVE US. WE ARE FOREVER ADDICTED TO YOUR LOVE!

  • Hey...they skipped the part where he continues with Mercy,Mercy Me.

My favourite Marvin Gaye cover but more for 'I want you'.Don't know which I prefer... The original is more sexy and sensual, whereas this one is more upbeat and good for dancing to.

  • This song I like is always a beautiful thing :))))))

  • great voice missed so much by so many

  • R.I.P. mr Palmer.

  • Just enjoy the music people. lets not drag race into this. Both men were great artist.

  • Robert Palmer died way too soon. Heaven has him and earth will always miss him.

  • Why don't you all give up this black/cover/dude shit. Great song, brilliant both times, if Take That had covered it we might have a reason to be cross. Let's all love great music by all brilliant artists. Yeah

  • Marvin Gayes vocals are so much better.

    enough said.

  • @AVsfinest15 given that gaye sang it at 31 and palmer at 42. palmer does it that best as you get older your vocals start to get deeper and shite.

  • Robert Palmer was a rare and undervalued artiste...My ex introdued his music to me 20 years ago..Im so glad, ive never looked back.

  • "some black dude"...unbelievable.

  • @Berkenshaw tell me about it. Marvin wasn't just some black dude...he was a man amongst boys!!!

  • @Berkenshaw ignorant and racist well done

  • OMG Robert you really could put such feeling into your singing this is better than the original rip you brilliant man.

  • R.I.P Robert

  • To my only sibling, my sister who I lost recently-be at peace and in no more pain my sweet angel sister-I will miss you everyday of my life-Butch

  • @hospitalbedpan A black person did sing this. Marvin Gaye sang both of these songs, and Robert Palmer covered them both. He did an excellent job in this cover. One of the best covers I've ever heard. I'm so glad my work plays this song :)

  • love you rest in peace my Robert !

  • wow, never knew Robert Palmer sang this. I always thought it was some black dude :-)

LOL I'll never look at this song the same way again. Odd..... almost wish I didn't find out the truth. Kinda like me overhearing my drunk mother say my conception was a mistake of sexual desperation.

  • @hospitalbedpan1

Some black dude DID sing this. Robert's version is a cover

  • @hospitalbedpan1 Guess your comment is an excellent example of the expression "ignorance is bliss" ("some black dude") - ..... sheesh!

  • RIP

  • light bulbs filled with murcury

  • Now I know where they got Amber from 311

  • Mercy was the second single from Marvin Gaye's 1971 album, What's Going On. The song was written solely by Marvin Gaye.

  • Robert Palmer was a huge talent, there is no substitute for a remarkable voice, music mourns his passing.
