Where in the world did this version come from?! It doesn't even sound like Mancini did it. No horns at the end, cavernous hall somewhere, this one has strings, weird feel change during the sax solo and other incongruities. However, that trumpet solo kills!
@garagebad Man great question . It doesn't have the spy twang guitar at the beginning either & yet it is still really good , Both solos smoke and agreed the trumpet is over the top . Hey this could be from any big band leaders album . There were dozens still hanging on in the 60's .This could maybe even be Don Ellis trumpeter/band leader who did the soundtrack to French Connection forged into the early 70's some times with Fuzz, Ring mod, Wha Wha , & Echoplex on his trumpet.
I do not understand where this came from. This is most certainly not the version we used to hear on the Peter Gunn show, which was, sorry, much better.
