You people trying to sound educated actually sound dumb. When they say approach of hurricane gustav they mean probably the first rain bands. Which is still the hurricane approaching! I am from Louisiana born and raised, and went through Katrina and Gustav and it's not just instant bad weather like a tornado. It starts off with storms, then severe storms, then the actual hurricane, then some more rain and wind(light) but it's all part of the hurricane! Geeze
@wow1022 But as far as I know, Supercell Thunderstorms are not usually in the rainbands because of the missing shearing... I think this was just a HP supercell with a nice Shelfcloud. btw you see sth. like a whales mouth on 1.14.. Still awesome
They doing this just to get views KNOW DUH YOUTUBE VIEWERS YA ARE DUMB FOR VIEWING.I DIDN'T HAVE TO WATCH IT.CAUSE IT WAS A THUNDERSTORM THEY TRYING MAKE A BIG DEAL LIKES ITS A HURRICANE WOW. IDK IF U WRITE BACK I wont even read what u gonna write so y bother.
@dre8431 NO dummy they were not sure if it was a hurricane or or thunderstorm. ^ __^ and yeah i dont give a dang if you read it or not... another thing WHAT IF YOU WERE THEM!!! HUh? would you be scared????
well if this hurricane gustav approaching this people wouldn't be outside due to the fact that the winds and water are at high speeds so to me this is a supercell that has developed from a thunderstorms moving in
@Gregor100DJ Don't know if you have already been answered but clocked in the U.S. means to get hit hard by something. It's slang for punched, like drilled or nailed.
I don't know enough to say whether this is a front just before the hurricane or whether the hurricane prompted this front (if it's only a front). I see no signs of wind however.
Geeze!! i wish i lived in a place where storms like this happened all the time... I love storms!!! If i was offered a job where i could walk into the most severe storms and video tape i would be STOKED!!!!
not a hurricane approaching. if this was there will be wind. this might have been a thunder storm before gustav. If there was a stalled front around or a warm, or cold front you will really be getting thunder storms.
Im ptretty shure that aint a hurricane looks more like an aproaching shelf cloud, and btw for ppl who say its gonna make a tornado it wont since wall clouds are at the ends of stroms while shelf clouds are the ones which are in the front of a storm
That is definitely a shelf cloud, no doubt from a squall line. If that were a hurricane, you'd be feeling some strong winds way before that sucker came across.
That was one of the strong rain bands ahead of the storm.... Here on the northshore we went back home soon after the storm to check things out and clean things up and a heavy rain shower came through... When we were about to leave we looked north of our house and saw a dark ominous supercell like thunderstorm producing a tornado lol
You can see the greenish tint of the hail in it. Worst thing I ever saw was a supercell above my head before it let loose. Almost directly above me was a funnel cloud, smooth and solid in appearance, and wide open on the bottom so that I could look partially inside and up into it. THAT was something.
If I've been there when a hurricane approach I'd be running like crazy. I'm going through Tornado alley, and I hope we wouldn't get hit some nasty storms. But It would be cool to see one from a distant far away. Nice caught.
This was shot about half a block from our apartment, and not 20 seconds after the recording stops, a powerful spurt of heavy rain came down that lasted maybe a half an hour. Later that night, we had some wind, but nothing too bad where we were. People have NO business comparing this storm to Katrina.
I would like to ask ya'll calling it a super cell to define a hurricane.....basically works off the same principal...hurricanes bring hail and tornadoes....so before you so not think something is what they say....come move down here to louisiana and experience a few super cells and hurricanes...ya'll are such experts go work for NOAA......geeeeesh air headed dumb %$%$^^%$%!!!!!!
I just thought another video looked like the one that just came over my house but this describes it perfectly. I have got pictures of it. It was quite amazing.
Thats not a hurricane, a hurricane doesn't look like that comming in... Its a supercell look it up. They are massive rotating thunderstorms that bring winds, hail, and tornados
that was a feeder ban coming off the hurricane. Hurricanes do produce supercells but the storms with hurricanes are typically much warmer then your run of the mill supercell thunderstorm so you dont find the hail that typically is associated with a storm of this nature. I remember this storm because i was watching the weather channels hurricane coverage of gustav when this rain ban rolled into new orleans.
@molonlave2010 . That is a rain band or outer squall. Certainly Hurricanes and tropical storms have super cells in the feeder bands that rotate into a hurricane and they look exactly like this. They can contain a lot of lightning or none, they can spawn weak F0,1, 2, & rarely 3 tornados and high straight line winds as they rapidly move through a area. Outer bands rapidly move and from high winds to calm and light overcast in minutes
Ya... I was standing on the porch while the storm was coming in ( it was only tropical storm type conditions) then all of a sudden a 80 mph gust came through I was like HOLY SHIT this was in baton rouge by the way
When Gustav hit our area we had over 12 hours of category 1 strength winds. You could hear trees falling and transformers blowing up all night. Thank goodness we only had one oak tree down in our yard and it missed our house. Others weren't so lucky. Some friends of ours had over 10 trees down in their yard. When a tree was fixing to fall, you could see the roots bulging up through the ground. Quite frightening.
WOw thats scary.i live on longisland and i hope we dont experience any huge hurricanes like this...scary because we are long overdue for a huge one.=/
OMG!!! shouldn't they be underground by then? I've never been close to a hurricane and never hope to be as close as they were. That would literally scare me to death
Haha, you can't go underground in Louisiana. You would hit water within the first 5 feet, which is why they do not bury people in New Orleans because New Orleans is about 6 feet below sea level and the coffins would float to the top during a flood.
Gustav hit as a Tropical Storm in Arkansas, and caused a lot of damage there. I forgot how frightening it is to go through not just Gustav, but Ike as well with no power and sustained winds of 50+.
Not trying to take anything away from LA, because I saw the damage first hand when I went to Habitat for Humanity. That's when it all hit home. Not on Tv, not on telethons, not anything else until you see it in person.
crazystupidperson777 We do have aca's here xD But The eye hit Ascension and Batonrouge. And some of livingston parish. I live in Ascension and after gustav our city looked just like NO after katrina :(
lol its funny seeing these people telling them to go inside. that is what it looks like about 12 hours before the bad stuff hits, i was in baton rouge for that hurricane working.

awesome footage..here in Florida tho when a storm runs through we are like 'again, really?' whats really bad is that it slams the coastal parts of the state which is where it is the worst. people more inland are like 'hurricane party?'

awesome footage..here in Florida tho when a storm runs through we are like 'again, really?' whats really bad is that it slams the coastal parts of the state which is where it is the worst. people more inland are like 'hurricane party?'
we are pretty bad when it comes to that
