Medicare works well (it doesn't pay doctors enough though). Having a public option will prevent you and I from funding the uninsured at the Emergency Room where care is the most expensive.

It's also unsustainable for US business to keep paying higher prices because we have so many uninsured showing up in emergency rooms where it's wicked expensive to treat them.
Unless you're willing to deny care to those who can't pay (and are willing to live with the consequences) then the next best option is to provide a basic insurance plan to at least they are getting their care at less expensive rates.

Every product on the world market sold to consumers must be transported. Which means everything you own or consume has built in it's price a fuel surcharge. Oil is not collected by magic. It take machines and people to do it. There are no quick fixes. The economy will only begin a true recovery in the commodities markets. That will happen when fuel is available for between .75 and $1.25 a gallon.

It's also unsustainable for US business to keep paying higher prices because we have so many uninsured showing up in emergency rooms where it's wicked expensive to treat them.
Unless you're willing to deny care to those who can't pay (and are willing to live with the consequences) then the next best option is to provide a basic insurance plan to at least they are getting their care at less expensive rates.
US business will be helped by this as our products won't be burdened with health expense

You're missing the point that we're all paying for it now. Anyone with insurance is already paying for everyone without it -- except we're paying emergency room rates.
Either we deny health care to those who can't pay, or we find a way to minimize costs through broader insurance coverage.
There are lots of positives for business and jobs if we can get this right.

Lifting a drilling ban is a joke. Even if we could magically drain the entire arctic, we'd only increase the world supply by a small percentage -- remember that the oil goes onto a world market and that it's not earmarked for the USA.

Every product on the world market sold to consumers must be transported. Which means everything you own or consume has built in it's price a fuel surcharge. Oil is not collected by magic. It take machines and people to do it. There are no quick fixes. The economy will only begin a true recovery in the commodities markets. That will happen when fuel is available for between .75 and $1.25 a gallon.

Joe -- in general yes. But the last 8 years of GOP rule resulted in the largest federal government ever. They grew government more than any previous admin. Oddly enough, the only administration to shrink government was Clinton -- or Gore to be precise -- when they fired 300,000 government workers in programs that were inefficient..

Howard Dean spoke of how he'd love to have the votes from the guys driving pickups with Confederate flag bumper stickers on them.(He at least is well aware of how the party lost the Southern vote) Well wanna know something? The Democrats lost the south the second Lyndon Johnson signed the civil rights act in 1964. Party and the very racists southern Democrats in the 1960's, just as you correctly pointed out. Al Gore's own father voted AGAINST the Civil Rights Act of all things. Oh, and it was the votes from GOP lawmakers that allowed the Civil Rights Act to become law, not votes from "caring" Democrats.

There is no justification for stealing....even if the government is just trying to help someone else. That's what charities are for. People can give as much as they'd like as charity but NOWHERE does it say the government has the right to take it.

Agree -- but it's in the country's best interest to have a healthy populace. We would all suffer under a hardcore system that just denied care if you couldn't pay for it. We'd just have dead folks decaying in parking lots. That's not the U.S.A.
Too, if you take a lesson from the French Revolution -- you can't let a significant % of the population get too poor or too sick, because then they get violent and cause more disruption to business and government.

Their right? It's their right to go to school; it's their right to vote. However it is NOT their right to have healthcare if they didn't work for it. Don't get me wrong. I don't mind paying for those who truly cannot and work their butts off trying. But I do mind paying for those who don't care enough about themselves to get a job and provide for their families. * The $300Billion in subsidies that went to private health insurance carriers last year
* The no-bid contracts that went to Halliburton
* The $20+ billion in subsidies that go to big oil
* Federal subsidies of airlines
The only people who like subsidies are those receiving them...
I think the public insurance option might actually *save* us some money.

Your right. It probably could save us some money if we weren't already drowning in debt. We don't have any way to pay for it now unless we get taxed to unbelievable extremes, which isn't supposed to happen right? We need to do something about insurance, but the government really needs to stop getting involved in everything. Whenever they do, fraud and money issues occur. And before you attack me, I'm not just talking about Obama's admin, but government programs in general.
