You know, in some cultures Tomas should have paid Pronger for bleeding him. It gets the bad spirits out. However, as it turned out, it just took the spirit out of the Wings.

If the Wings hadn't gone pacifist they would have had a couple of guys to answer back. Remember, the Wings didn't start winning cups until Shanahan arrived and McCarty and Lapointe came of age. The Wings never initiate physical play anymore...they are rather dull to watch now.

Why do the 90's Devils not receive the credit they are due for winning mulitiple championships? It is because of the style they played.

It is foolish to assume that a team is entertaining simply because they are in first place. The Ducks don't score as much and are less skilled than the Wings yet, because of the style of their play, they are fun to watch.

Actually, the Ducks have only employed a 1-2-2system since Pronger, Perry and Getzlaf are out. When they have their full team they forecheck with two forwards all night.

The Wings the quazi-trap team. When you look at their talent the Wings could open it up and be as entertaining as the Habs or Ottawa but they choose to play a left wing lock that is most effective for countering.

The Ducks play a physical brand of hockey that is a breathe of fresh air compared to the Devils and Wings.

I think the NHL league office is terrified that the Wings make the final again. They want stars with personality and charisma to make the big push for playoff success this year. It's more important than ever that teams like Pittsburg, Washington, Anahiem and the Sharks go deep into the playoffs as ESPN considers getting back into the hockey business. Another Wings final would drain some of the exciting intangables from the game and that is not what the league needs now.

No, Detroit use to be a critical market in the US but that is not the case any more. Detroit lost to the Ducks last year, lost the title of Hockeytown USA and lost many of their hardcore fans due to the passive, unexciting style they adopted. It could be argued that the decline in hockey's popularity in the US can be traced to the style the Wings and Devils currently play.
