Thank you for taking the time to make the video =)

  • I just noticed, my creative sound card has a firewire port on it, cool! :D

  • Hey, thanks for this. Your instructions really helped. Plus, you're adorable! Bonus!

  • You mentioned at the begining that alot of pc's dont come with any firewire ports, why is that I wonder? Also I'm thinking about installing my own card but I'm worried about my processor compadibility, what should I look for when selecting one?

  • would this method work on a dell?

  • Do you have to have drivers for it?

  • thanks for the help dude :)

but what if you have a laptop? :(

  • Nice vid tutorial, but you didnt mention about preparing against a possible static charge to pc.

  • That is probably what I may need to do. I bought this camera jvc gr-d850 and to transfer vids to the pc I need the 1394 port which my old desktop does not have. I have never inserted a card into my pc , hope I dont destroy mine in the process. How much will the card cost and where can I get it.

  • does anyone know how to isntall a PCIE firewire card?

  • @TMLorfing Well, It's the same way, but you put into a PCIe slot instead of a PCI slot :)

  • what about antistatic bands?

  • I have never used one myself but I'd recommend one. Especially if you're doing anything to someone elses computer.

  • hello, I have a questing. I bought a camera that doesn't come with usb or any capturing cable. So I saw that firewire could hlep me so I was looking a this video and saw what does firewire were. So I look in my computer and I saw that It had a firewire that says 1394. That firewire can help me capture my video once I have bought the cord?

    by the way good vid!

  • What camera do you have? It really depends on that.

  • I have a Sony DCR-HC52, I was looking information for it and I found out that I was going to need a 1394 firewire... SO, I don't know can you help me?

  • really helpful, better than a set of pictures and text to explain it all, thanks.

  • Is it possible to add or connect a firewire card to a laptop?

  • u can buy cards that plug into that pcmia or whatever its called in computer shops the thing at the side of the laptop

  • Thanks man it was really helpful !

  • I have a e machine 32 bit processor runnning windows vista any suggestions on what firewire card will work properly. I hear they are hard to find right one because of vista. Thanks

  • Thanks for this. Also out of curiousity what camera do you use?

  • It's a Panasonic GS-320. DV Camcorder, not HD, I just upscaled it using Sony Vegas.

  • What about static electricity, and unplugging all connections...goes without saying I suppose...>

  • I didn't bother with a static wristband myself. Probably recommended but I was fine without.

  • You make it looks so easy, I'm a little iffy to say the least on unplugging all the cables and opening up my Motherboard or whatever you call it. I know in your video you mentioned something about screws, Do you HAVE To screw them in? Or can I just leave them out? How High is the risk of the PCI Firewwire card breaking if I don't put in the screws?

  • I'd recommend screws but so long as you're sure the case is in a spot where it wouldn't get accidentally moved then you should be ok. (I still have no screws on mine)

With regard to the difficulty, removing the screws and opening the case is very easy and provided you're careful there won't be a problem.

Slotting something into a PCI slot is like Lego, only as I discovered you may need to press quite hard to get it in there. You're not dealing with any power cables or anything.

  • Well, it's not so much as me iffy but as my mom lol. She thinks it's like pulling every single thing apart and what not. Do you reccomend buying it off Amazon or Best Buy? Or does it not really matter? And when you insert the card, how do you take off the things on the outside so the firewire/USB ports will show? Because I checked and mine doesn't have any screws.

  • Doesn't really matter where you buy it from just try and get a good price. I've bought stuff like this on Amazon before and had no problems.

There should be panels at the rear of the PC that you can remove. No screws involved for this, just punch out the panels.

  • i put mine in and everything but it doesnt work why?

  • did you install the correct drivers?

  • i got it to work now i just unplugged my computer and put it in a different slot

  • good :)

  • does it work with any type of computer?

  • are you supposed to buy your own screws?

  • Some firewire cards will come with screws I think. Mine did not.

Some PCs will come with screws I think. Mine did not.

Right now I'm using some screws I found, it was a pretty regular fit.

  • u just slide it in... no conection cables on the inside of the computer??

  • that's right

  • i have asus mainboard P4V8X-MX it is i can install this firewire card. i need a help. post comment.

  • yeah you will be fine that thing has 3 PCI slots

  • thanks

  • Theres no need to attach a connection from the PSU to the firewire pci card? Sweet.

  • do u have a nvidia geforce 8800gt or gtx card?? :) vid 5/5

  • It's just a 9500GT

  • aa okey i'm sorry :) but i speak nvidia geforce :)

  • Thanks, I'm glad I saw this and found out how simple fitting it was before I got the shop to put it in :D

Nice vid, thanks for saving me money ;P

  • Thanks!

One thing I will say is that if you are running Vista, do check that the card is compatible or you may get problems!

  • great vid,thanks.btwur accent i cool:P
