Julie sounded much the same when she was that age. A huge rangeThere's a video on nUTube somewhere of her singing at roughly the same age. She was and is a real trooper.
If you watch the full version of Julie Andrews video, she goes as high as Hollie. Also, Julie's voice is more mature sounding like she knows what she's doing. Hollie sounds like a little girl trying to copy a famous song by a famous singer. Personally I LOVE Julie Andrews she is my all time favourite singer. Hollie may be very good and may be more famous one day, but rite now she's too young to make that judgment.
For a 10 year old little girl..with no training at all, Hollie is fantastic. That voice is so clear and clean. Julie's voice will go down in history as one of the greats and if Hollie keeps up the good work, she will be right behind her. Beautiful stuff.
You cannot compare the beautiful, rich and tuneful voice of Julie to the shrieking that Hollie does in this song. Hollie has the potential to be a great singer if she gets her voice trained and realises that it isn't just about squawking and straining out the highest notes possible the last 3 notes she sings in this are AWFUL!!
@CricutQueen Give Hollie a little credit. She was 10 when she did that. At least she could get that high. Those notes are higher than most professional sopranos are able to hit at her age.
What kind of a fool would compare some random 10 year old girl with the seasoned wonder that is Jule Andrews. Listen folks there is far more to singing than hitting high notes, which incidentally Julie did with perfection for decades, and so, so much more.
Just think that, in 20 years, the next generation may say the same about Hollie that you & I say about Julie! Rather than "compare" them, I say, "ENJOY BOTH OF THEM!"
Steven Mulhern of "Brtain's Got More Talent" has set up surprise meetings of BGT stars with their idols--Sue Son with Vanessa Mae, Julian Smith with Kenny G, Stavros Flatley with the Lord of the Dance troupe, etc. I'd love to see him set up a meeting between Hollie and Julie Andrews and/or Sarah Brightman.
I've also compered other versions, like Becky Taylor 13, Charlotte Church 14, Ashley Childers 11 they're older now Julie sings it better then Charlotte, Becky & Ashley who's also a really good child singer & does a good job on I Dreamed A Dream. Hollie sorry to say has got the most amazing voice that i've ever heard in my 44 years of growing, since i was too young to remember Julies version Hollie's is the best. Sorry Julie fans. Julie was a really good singer, i feel bad that it ended for her.
I could find only Ashley Childers' version on the iTunes store. You're right--she's quite good, but not up to Hollie's standard. I have a feeling that Ashley is more comfortable as a mezzo, like Church (who could hit high notes, but not with power). She seems to stretch for the high notes and is overwhelmed by the accompaniment. She often sounds younger than Hollie.
Absolutely! In an interview, Hollie said her audition was "OK," not her best, as she was nervous. Andrews sang with her mom & stepdad in their vaudeville act, so she was a seasoned performer by 10-12. Hollie faced the biggest crowd of her life in the audition AND there was a lot riding on her performance.
To say that Hollie is great is to take NOTHING away from Andrews! Hollie may go toward musical theater like Andrews or classical/crossover like Charlotte Church--she's done both.
These videos aren't fair, Hollie's voice is going to completely change once she reaches puberty. It's a ridiculous notion to compare an old expertly trained professional to a ten year old girl who's just starting out. Once Hollie is older, then compare them when they have similarly trained voices.
They're both in the same key here, it's a pity that Julie's pure finale g is cut in this double-clip because it's just as spectacular as in the dinah shaw version, or the ed sullivan version. x
Oops, 36, still Search: "julie andrews dinah shore" to see Julie singing this song at age 20...MUCH MORE similar to Hollie particualarly in the last note
This is Julie singing this song at age 37 --Search: julie andrews dinah shore (on youtube) to see Julie Andrews singing the same song at age 20...MUCH MORE similarity, particualarly in the last note and in the tone and vibrato
Hollie has a strong, clear voice for a child, but hell, no one can compare to Julie Andrews. She's easily the greatest singing voice of the 20th century!
Just watch the change on his face as she starts to sing :) 1:22 to 1:27

Julie's voice sounds more NATURAL and warm, and her high notes sound more excited.
Hollie has potential, but If she wasn't a cute little girl no one would be able to stand the audio alone, shrill and annoying.
PS search "12 year old Junior Andrews - Polonaises, Je suis" on youtube, that 's how a good child singer sounds.

You put poor little Hollie to a pretty tough standard. Julie in my view is the the consumate musical comedy artist.
Surprisingly, Hollie comes off really decently, which says tons about her talent and how much she has going for her.
Incidentally, the few recordings we have of teenage Julie are absolutely brilliant as well.
Nothing like 20 years or so of seasoning to turn wonderful into practically perfect! (Thanks Ms. Poppins)

I think this song is a little girl's story, and Hollie really makes it believable.
The audition was not her best performance. Check out her life performance on BGT Tour. Her voice was from another planet.
