Of all the Christmas songs that been recorded in history, this is truly the most profound. Thank you Greg, for the courage to tell the world like it is, and in such a wondrous vocal way. Merry Christmas :-)
A wonderful song - I agree that it just does not feel like Christmas without hearing it at least once during the holidays. His voice is simply incredible.
Great song ! Intended as a protest of the harsh atheist Zionist baby killers ! In Germany they tore down that wall, and now Israel builds another one ! They can starve our body but not our soul !!! World governments are ALL low life scum ! England fired a nurse for wearing a cross ! The USA will not allow Nativity displays ! Their sick world will crumble in the end ! But continue to spread joy ! Christ Is Born ! Glorify Him !
@Bintshovel It had nothing to do as any find of protest about the middle east - check the interview version of this - it's about the commercialism of Christmas/
@12Racer99 Yes it had a hidden protest, as he made the video with IDF images ! Iqrit was an all Palestinian Christian village that was "depopulated" -residents were shipped to other towns. And on Christmas day 1951 the IDF destoyed the ENTIRE town ! This song was inspired by much of these events as well as the mass commercialism !
Greg, this is the most beautiful Christmas song. Your voice just makes it ring. I was a fan of ELP back in the 70's. I really enjoyed the music. Thanks. Cyndie
An exceptionally beautiful song that never received the credit that it was due. I must admit I wasn't an ELP fan until I turned 17 back in 1988, but what bothers me even more is that I hadn't heard this particular song until just a few short years ago. I could only hope to write a song this beautiful.
War then War now deception then deception now-military occupation 2000 years ago, military occupation today-i have been to Bethlehem and it's encased by 30 ft gray walls of steel and concrete with tinted glass watchtowers full of soldiers-Through checkpoints to enter the birthplace of Jesus we showed our ID's to occupying troops, then we were inside-the birthplace of Christ-2000 years later-what has changed? Merry Christmas humanity Peace on Earth goodwill to one and all-we do get what we deserve
No matter how many times I hear this song sung by Greg, I cry like a baby. It brings back memories of how different things were, at Christmas, when I was a child. We certainly didn't have even half of the problems here on earth then, as we do now, and maybe that's part of the reason. I love the fact that he says "Merry Christmas, everybody!" after this performance, instead of "happy holidays". Thank you, Mr. Lake.
This is such a beautiful song. We do it in a Christmas production, but since someone else sings it, I never really knew the lyrics. I was recording a version with me singing in preparation fro the show......first time I read the lyrics, damn near cried, incredible.
Yes Greg, it is August and I'm listening to your song right now. You're the type of guy that can bring Christmas to people all year long. Thanks for this song and your contribution to music. You have fans everywhere in the world and especially in Des Moines, Iowa. Please come and visit us soon.
The man is an absolute class act. He's been that way since his King Crimson days....guessing he always will be. Thanks for all of your music and talent, Mr. Lake. Truly an artist and a gentleman.
I remember hearing this beautiful song as a child and being mesmerized by the sound you created, it is one of the first songs that gave me a yearning to learn to play guitar and surely the following Christmas I finally got my first guitar.

I actually think I like this version better than the 1975 version. His voice is more mature here. Hell I just love him and love whatever he does.
