  • at 5:32 u can hear a bzzzztt!!! cool electrical sound, only if u're not listening them freakin' out

  • Wow...dont chase if youre gonna break down like babies in the middle of a hail core. The hail didnt even sound that big.

  • This was LAST YEAR! and that would be my sister...she doesn't chase with us anymore. I thought it was pretty damn cool

  • lol.... You all sound like my family

  • Where you using the Streethawk light bar or the mini strope one on this vehicle?

  • Strobe light. The Streethawk is mounted permanently to my dad's explorer...so there's no moving that. I'll have a Steethawk on my truck soon...so the strobe light will be used solely for my sister's vehicle

  • Ahh cheers for clearing that up! I guess a give away for the streethawk would be that you propably see the lights rotating from the bar, as you've mentioned that its really bright. BTW thanks 4 uploading these videos as i give use a glimpse of all the cool action you amature storm chasers post on youtube.

  • *[Continued from previous post]

P.S. I don't mean to offend you if i called you an amature as in not sure how you class who's an amature and who's a professional at storm chasing. As we don't get to storm chase in the UK, but we get some storms but not as bad as this. I might start doing storm chasing the UK [If its actually possible to do so], when i have a car so i'll wait till then.

  • It's ok. And I'll start having winter videos coming up. Looks like we could get 3 inches this Sunday. And I would consider myself an amateur chaser. I'm not a professional by any means...but I do know what I'm doing :-). The UK isn't a hot spot for severe storms...come to the Great Plains!

  • I might do some day, but with alot of thinks these days it costs money dude!!! The storms over here do get pretty bad, buts its what we brits would call bad. We do get tornados, but they would we be just little baby ones compared to the ones over in the states. Who knows maybe because of global warming we might get storms like this, one day!!!

BTW what software do you use to track the storms?

  • We either use Stormlab Supercharged or Swiftwx. I'm swinging back towards Swiftwx because of the features they have. In fact, I'm a beta tester for a new program their coming out with. Can't say much about it right now...but I'll just say it's very sweet! Can't wait until it comes out to the public!

  • Hey, what equipment would use for storm chasing, i'm guessing CB radio, laptop with radar/weather software, sat nav system, Wireless broadband dongle? I've been wondering how you can get internet when you're in your truck or car. also not to for get the warning light systems!

  • Dont have a CB radio yet, but we want one. We have a nice laptop with GRLevel3, which works EXCELLENT in areas where cell coverage is weak. For gps, we use microsoft streets and trips 2009 which also enables us to overlay our gps position on our radar program. We use verizon wireless for our wireless broadband. The lights we just got from ebay

  • So could use Swiftwx with street and trips or is it just GRlevel3, also i take it the GPS and Radar systems only work when you're connected to the interent, correct?

  • Yeah you can use Swiftwx with street and trips. The radar only works with internet connection, but the gps doesn't need internet. GPS works only on satellites, so as long as it sees a satellite it will work

  • wow thats great, thanks for the friendly, advice one more quicky question, does the software work in UK. You been on any storm chasing recently?

  • That i'm not too sure about. I would have to look into that. Other than the June 17th 2009 storm chase there hasn't been anything else to really chase. We had a local chase recently (forgot the date) where a wall cloud passed right over town. Other than that there hasn't been too much action

  • if she cant handle the storm.. ( ur sister ) dont let he drive.. she screwes up everything.. i think its better if u go with ur dad :)

  • You'll find my dad and me driving for a while till she gets used to the storms. She loves chasing...but maybe having her as a driver isnt a good idea :-)

  • yea.. dont mean it bad.. but it just doesnt look like she will move .. like while its really neccesery.. it would be very stressful :)

  • No it's ok. I explained it to her and showed her the video. Said she honestly didn't realize she reacted like that. She would move when we told her to stop and would stop when we told her to move :-D. Luckily it was just a downburst

  • I'm laughing out loud...you guys are a riot.

  • whatta ride, heckuva day it was. p

  • some pretty good drama; felt like I was watching a Hitchcockian suspense film

  • Just rain... yeah, with a nasty wall cloud coming up behind you, and hail in front of you. You were putting yourself in a dangerous situation. It was entertaining to watch though.

  • I admit...we were. We were having GPS issues and mobile radar issues, so it wasn't a good day. Going back and looking at the video, wind was most likely somewhere around 60mph. We plan to buy a anemometer so we can accurately measure the wind

  • looks interesting!

  • We definably plan on making more :-)

We actually have another video of last night when some tornadic cells went right over my town

  • woah.

  • Nice vid. Major freakout at the end. :)

  • Haha...that was my sister. She didn't realize that's what a down burst feels like :-)

  • poor girl. Exciting video though thank you. that must have felt great though Fear + Adrenaline? Lucky you.....lol. Hope you guys make more, and stay safe while doing so.
