Thank you for all your videos and the encouragement.
I think I was shown tracing in grade school, but in my middle school art class (8th grade) the teacher told me it was not ok. I still used tracing despite what she said.
I especially liked the idea of flipping the trace paper over and redrawing to get an inverse transfer image. I use that all the time.
I use the carbon transfer method of tracing, which I was taught in year seven, and which I use if a section of one of my peices has not worked out and I want to change it.
Thankyou sir for responding you are probably right about them not drawing and been
jealous or envious , i want to thankyou for sharing your knowledge i find it very informative and helpful no matter what stage you are with in your drawing continued blessing from ireland a fan of your work
when i was growing up if you traced other kids said you cheated so i never traced i use my eyes if you understand what i mean But i know from reading Art Book on the great master such as michaelangelo raphale bernini and even walt disney they used the technique of Tracing so thankyou for explaining this that it,s not cheating
I have never been taught to trace. Most people claim it;s cheating, but I am trying to imrpove my art, this should help. That you so much for this video.
@elysianverse In the old days they traced with pin pricks on the paper, then dusted chalk through the pinholes onto the paper - its called pouncing! a lot of hard work, though :D
In the first grade we did trace. The teacher would have all these pictures from children's coloring books (the ones with SUPER thick lines) and we were given large black markers to trace with. After that we could color what we traced. However, after that grade the art teachers were insistant that 'Tracing doesn't teach you anything but copying. You aren't allowed to use your imagination then.'
Hi. I'm an aspiring artist and I'd really appreciate it if you could take the time to answer a couple of questions.
Shouldn't persons look at a drawing/photograph and reproduce it without the drawing being under the paper? I keep the original next to my drawing and try to draw by looking at it and if I'm not sure/want to compare it I put the original on top of my drawing to compare the lines.
Oh and would you mind going to ispaure.deviantart . com and crtique some of my latest artworks? Thanks
@60spaure There are no rules! get that out of your head first - when you're learning use any method you can to train your hand to go in the right dirction and create on paper what you have already got in your mind. I like your pencils best - I'm getting old so I think all manga looks like its done by the same artist. You gota slick style, but If you want to really make it you need your own distinctive style. - still time to vote for me today! - see my channel page. all the best - take care
I really suck at drawing but I'm a very good painting, so I use tracing as a tool to get a good pictgure. It doesn't mater if it's pastels, color pencils, oils or digital.
But I have a classmate that always says I'm a cheater because tracing is not art!
I just laught and keep doing it =W=, and I learn a lot doing it... now I can draw a hand without feelling a toodler .w.
@mafermononoke learning to draw is like learning any other skill, you use everything you can to do what you need to do. eventually you emerge as an artist in your own right, having learned from all those that came before. do what ever you have to do. It's not cheating. It's cheating to use a steering wheel in a car, coz everyone else uses one of those! :-)
I always thought tracing wasn't cheating or copying the artist.. i like tracing over people's faces then did what you did with the bunny then i like the draw it out then paint it with watercolors!
do you mean that i should use tracing when i have donea drawing but wish to improve it and change tit or are you saying trace a drawing everyday and you will soon get better
@tiptopgolfy Hi, no tracing is good for improving a drawing. You don't need to do it everyday. It's just some people think it's cheating. It's not. it's just another tool that you can use. Try tracing a robin and you'll maybe see how those circles come together!
I used to do some tracing when I was younger. We didn't really learn it at school, though. My father taught me. :) But as I learned how to create my own style, and how to draw certain things, I stopped. I can't really remember the last time I did it. :o
We were taught this many times in this afterschool i went to for making comics. We did what you did- which was tracing with tracing paper and then changing it up a bit to how we like it. By doing that, we learned many different ways of drawing things just by tracing! This strategy really works when you want to learn a new way of drawing something. Because later you could do it off the top of your head! :^D
true true true! many aritst trace beacuse they might for get a detail on them or might want to put them in a diffrent setting with the same stance so they trace it and then they add the background
Thank you for all your videos and the encouragement.
