Does that have a CVT on it? Wouldn't touch one!!! Absolute rubbish compared to the Ford DCT and VW SKODA DSG gearboxes. Why rev the nuts off the engine continuously...it doesn't make sense to have a gearbox that was invented and used by DAF in the 1950's.
@urbex2007 The only good thing about it is that you are running at the absolute peak of the power band constantly, so no drop in power. It's better for drag racing or lawn mowers xD

Hola! Pufff! La verdad es que 240.000 Km con un solo cambio de aceite me parece una pasada. Segun el fabricante recomienda que se cambie el aceite cada 60.000 km. Saludos...
Yo conozco un 1.9D 130cv con cambio multitronic y estoy encantado. Sabe que se ha comprado un coche automático, no busca aceleración ni respuesta, busca comodidad y este da mucha comodidad. No notas los cambios de marcha, es como un variador de un scooter, es increíble. He probado otros cambios automáticos y son incómodos de tanto que se nota el cambio de marcha.
Sobre la fiabilidad decir que tiene 240mil km, le han cambiado una vez el aceite del cambio y va GENIAL!! ni un problema.
El multitronic de Audi es bastante malo. Yo mismo he tenido la posibilidad de manejarlo muchisimas veces, pero de todas formas no me convence. Empezando por la arrancada que parece como si uno manejara un mecanico y acelerara y se demorara mucho en soltar el embrague. Ademas no me gusta que no tenga cambios, la posicion S, o la de cambios manuales es una mentira porque el carro funciona con poleas que se agrandan o ajustan segun la velocidad, estos cambios solo dan la sensacion.

Basically, the ratio is not fixed and therefore, the ratio is varied within a set range (this is limited physically by the design). Its not "1 gear". Its the gearbox's ratio continously getting larger. This means that the car is revving at the same speed constantly providing optimum power all the time.

@terminez la multitronic no tiene marchas, o digamos que es una marcha variable, en aceleracion maxima fija las rpm en el pico max de potencia y por medio de una polea conica, varia la relacion de marcha. CVT = Continous Variable Transmission. Como el de los scooters de 50cc por dar un ejemplo...pero con mucha tecnologia y electronica
@terminez Viene con la DSG de 6 marchas que seria la semiautomatica con doble embrague, luego la Tiptronic automatica comùn de siempre no recuerdo si 5 o 6vel (casi seguro que es de 6), o con cambio manual de 6 marchas. Saludos!

En concreto la multitronic de audi no precisamente es conocida por su fiabilidad (tuvo mucho problemas iniciales de que la marca no recomendaba el cambio del aceite ATF y le añadieron un disco de embrague a mayores de los 6 que tenia) En cuanto a prestaciones, aceleracion creo que no tiene casi nada que envidiar a un DSG. Sencillamente son cajas de cambio completament diferentes asique no se pueden comparar. Saludos...
Hola! Si lo que quieres es sentir los cambios el multitronic tambien te permite usar el modo manual o el modo sport. Si sigues mirando en youtube tengo subido otro video en el que puedes ver el mismo coche en modo sport.

Modern CVTs can withstand much more torque as it was in the past. Lexus gearboxes handle up to 520 Nm. Strongest multitronics used in Audis with 2.7 diesel which produces 400 Nm.
I bet these parameters can be extended if necessary.
not much.. in my opinon CVT's can't withstand that much torque especially in the long terms..
tiptronic are still better and long lasting than CVT.. (in fact the 3.0 TDI and bigger have all DSG and TIptronic trannys)
in future if this system will be made more reliabile it will be the best of both worlds.. (DSG multy clutch and tiptronic) giving the speed of one.. and the fluidity of the other..

I was wrong. Lexus LS 600h has no belt-driven CVT but a planetary set of gears superpositioning torque from the engine and electric motors. That's why it can handle so much torque
Belt CVTs accomodate better than any tiptronic or dsg but always steal a bit more power due to belt friction. And handle less torque
Thus I predict the future of transmissions:
- small cars: Prius-alike gearbox
- large: two-mode hybrid setup or dsg/lockable torque converter automatics for series hybrids
weird i say, i had a 2008 honda jazz loan car that was like that, 7 speed but in auto if you tramped your foot down it stayed at 5500 and accelerated.. bizzar feeling, felt like a riding clutch.. but that where auto trannys are going these days...

There's an iron chain on 2 variable rollers, as the rollers shift you have continuously variable gears. It's easier to understand if you compare it to bicycle gears, the chain is the same, only thicker, but there are no 18-24 disks on the bicycle pedals and rear wheels, but rollers like 2 plates that come closer to push the chain outwards (big disk on the bicycle) or further apart, to let the chain inwards between them (small disk on the bicycle).

Yeah, maybe in a 4 cylinder. A V6 makes more sense with this transimission. 200km/h at 3400rpm. That's the beauty of Multitronic

no manual multitronic. but how its not shift up, or shift up but eye cant see thats very fast :). tiptronic is not like multitronic

ESP or ASR (traction control). Great videos, post more, especially with it in Drive. How does it shit in Manual mode?? Is it fast enough?

Awesome. just above 4000 RPM I noticed a yellow light coming on for a fraction of a sec and then it never comes on again even at 6000 RPM. What light was that? Oil indicator ?
