@artworkbymoze for the base coat on the canvas, and many times i use that white for highlights or to make thinner paints. magic white, liquid white, and titanium white with extra linseed oil are really all the same.
Hey man excellent videos! I watched a ton of tutorials and none of them were as clear as yours. I have a couple questions, first when im painting trees it becomes just a big blur or blob. Its all is blending with everything behind it. Also when I grab my reflection and pull, all the colors turn into one solid mass that doesnt look like water or a reflection? Lastly are all first paintings just supposed to be awful lol?
@Hunterje711 it sounds like it could be a couple of things with the trees. first, the paint behind the trees is too thick. most of the painting with wet on wet is pretty thin and it builds up. if there is a lot of paint in the back, it wont really stick and just blob up. also, you could be pushing the brush in incorrectly. the reflection issue sounds like either the paint is too thick (or thined down too much), or your pushing too hard. it doesnt take a lot of pressure to paint this way.
@Hunterje711 magic white is a thin white oil paint. its thin due to high oil not paint thinner. gesso is a paint used to seal and prime canvas before painting on it. gesso is important because without it, the oil paints can actually damage the fibers in the canvas through time. the good thing is most canvas you buy is pre gesso-ed.
@diafimotbh thanks, i was just kind of fooling around on this one. i do alot of paintings that im not being serious just kind of creating without thought. this one i thought i should make it kind of a lesson for those who are just starting out.
