As for the people getting caught, it's because they dont babysit it and take the right precautions, like turning off chat, hopping to low populated areas, simple stuff. Its a screen scraper. So it obviously can't do everything correctly(random events, other dumb shit)

DONT PLAY THIS GAME! i played, it is full of bugs and the mods dont help at all!

My friend was wrongly accused of hacking someone and was permanently banned,

mods didnt even consider that she was the leader of a Top 5 alliance. Along with her our best players also got banned for no reason!

Evony only became "popular" because of their fake advertisements. There is no Queen in Evony, and they even fuck with you on their FAQ. The game is also a big fraud and you should not play it.
